ISABELLA POV
"She is awake, she needs a nurse to check her vital signs now," one of the staff murmured, standing near the doorway.
Victoria's voice was sharp. "Okay, thank you"
Footsteps echoed down the corridor. A moment later, Vanessa stepped into the room, her expression unreadable. She was wearing her uniform, her ID badge clipped neatly onto her pocket, as if she had every right to be here.
Victoria's entire body tensed beside me. "No," she said flatly. "I don't trust you."
Vanessa tilted her head, her lips curling into something between amusement and irritation. "I'm a nurse, Victoria. I can't kill her."
Victoria took a step forward, placing herself between us. "You think I'd let you anywhere near her after what you did?" Her voice was ice-cold, sharp enough to slice through steel.
Vanessa sighed, "Relax hun, I wouldn't hurt her."
"That's funny," Victoria said, her voice sharp as a blade. "Because you sure as hell had no problem ruining her life."
Vanessa rolled her eyes. "Oh, come on. Are we really doing this? You're making it sound like I ran her over with a car. I slept with her boyfriend, Victoria. People cheat. It happens."
Victoria's hands curled into fists. "You knew they were together. You knew, and you did it anyway."
Vanessa exhaled, feigning boredom. "Yeah. And then she found out. We all survived, life goes on."
Victoria didn't move, her entire body still tense, her fists clenched at her sides.
"Get out," she said through gritted teeth.
Vanessa sighed, adjusting her uniform like she had all the time in the world. Then she took a slow step back, her lips curving into something almost playful.
I watched as they both argued but I didn't talk.
"Are you alright?" Victoria asked.
I nodded slightly on the bed.
Victoria placed the resignation letter and the folded test result in my hands. "Go. Submit this now."
I swallowed hard, my stomach twisting. "Are you sure about this?"
"Yes," she said firmly. "Before you change your mind, you can't keep working here."
Taking a deep breath, I turned and walked toward the HR office. Every step felt heavier than the last. My fingers curled tightly around the brown envelope, my heartbeat drumming a steady, anxious rhythm.
The HR manager glanced up when I entered, giving me a polite but indifferent nod. "Isabella," he said. "You're resigning?"
"Yes I am." My voice was steady, but my hands trembled as I placed the envelope on his desk.
He exhaled through his nose. "Well, I am sad that you are leaving but it's your decision. You need to take this to Doctor Victor. He has to sign off on it."
My breath hitched. "Victor? Is it necessary?"
"Yes. Hospital policy," he said, already looking at his computer screen, dismissing me.
I clenched my jaw, forcing my feet to move. Fine. Just get this over with.
Victor's office door was slightly ajar when I arrived. I reached for the handle but stopped when I heard a low, sultry giggle from inside.
A woman's voice.
Something felt off.
I pushed the door open, stepping inside.
And froze.
A stunning woman, dressed in a form-fitting black dress, was seated on Victor's desk, her legs crossed elegantly. Her hand was dangerously close to his crotch, fingers teasing along the fabric of his slacks.
Victor sat back in his chair, his expression unreadable, but he wasn't stopping her.
"You should at least knock," the woman said smoothly, not even looking at me.
"Teressa." Victor said, trying to tell her to shut her mouth.
I forced down the nausea rising in my throat. My fingers tightened around the envelope. "Sorry to disturb you. I came to submit my resignation letter."
Victor's gaze snapped to mine, his eyes darkening. He cleared his throat and sat up straighter. "Why, Isabella?"
I met his stare with a glare. "I don't-"
"Giving up on your dream now? Because of me?" His voice was sharp, questioning, demanding.
Teressa beside him cocked her head. "Isn't she Sebastian's ex-girlfriend? The girl I saw in your office the other day?" she mused, a smirk tugging at her lips. "Wow, what a small world, Screwing both father and son."
I swallowed the bitter taste in my mouth and nodded, dropping the envelope onto the table.
She picked it up, turning it over in her hands. "You should at least let him sign it before you leave."
"It's not important," I said coolly. "The fact that I told him I'm done working here is what matters."
Victor didn't move. He just watched me, his expression unreadable.
I turned and walked out.
Victoria was waiting for me outside. The moment she saw my face, she pulled me into a hug. "It's done?"
I nodded against her shoulder.
As we walked away, back to the car, inside Victor's office, the woman still held the envelope in her hands.
"Aren't you going to take a look at the paper?" she asked Victor.
"No, it's not important," he muttered, rubbing his temple.
She raised an eyebrow but said nothing. Instead, she opened the envelope herself.
The first paper was my resignation letter.
The second...
A pregnancy test result.
Her breath hitched.
"A pregnancy test?" she whispered to herself.
Victor looked up. "Talking to me?"
She quickly shook her head. "Uhm, no, I'm just going through the resignation letter."
Before he could notice anything, his phone rang.
An emergency.
Victor grabbed his coat and left the office in a hurry.
The moment the door shut behind him, the woman carefully pulled the pregnancy test result from the envelope and slipped it into her bag.
Then, she placed the resignation letter back on his desk and walked out.
When Victoria and I reached home, I immediately rummaged through my bag, my fingers searching for the folded test result.
It wasn't there.
My heart stopped.
"What the fuck?" Victoria's voice was sharp.
I turned to her, my face draining of color. "It was in my bag. I-I must have accidentally put it in the envelope."
Victoria's eyes widened. "You mean-"
"I submitted my pregnancy test result along with my resignation letter," I whispered, horror washing over me.
Victoria's hands shot to her head. "Isabella!"
Panic clutched at my chest. "What if he sees it?"
Victoria exhaled sharply, pacing. "It's too late already. It's exposed, and the fun fact? The whole hospital will know about it soon."
I gripped my phone, my fingers shaking. "But why hasn't he called me?"
Victoria's eyes darkened. "You better call him now and tell him the truth before someone else does."
Without thinking, I typed a message.
I'm sorry you had to see the test result with my resignation letter. I didn't mean for it to happen this way.
I pressed send.
A knock sounded at the door.
Victoria and I exchanged glances before I hurried to open it.
The woman from Victor's office stood there, smiling.
"You again?" I said, my stomach twisting.
She pulled a folded paper from her bag and held it out. "You left something with your resignation letter."
I grabbed it instantly, unfolding it. My pregnancy test result.
I swallowed hard. "Has he seen it yet?"
She smirked. "No." Then her voice dropped, her tone laced with poison. "And how dare you get pregnant for the father of your ex?"
The world tilted beneath me.
"What?" My voice was barely a whisper.
I turned, my hands scrambling for my phone.
I needed to delete the message.
My fingers flew over the screen, my breath coming in sharp, desperate gasps.
I opened my messages, clicked on the text-
Message seen at 4:47 PM.
But not by Victor.
By Sebastian.
A wave of cold horror crashed over me.
I stared at the name, my pulse hammering in my ears.
The woman's laughter rang behind me. "Oops."
Victoria's voice was sharp. "Isabella, what's wrong?"
I couldn't breathe.
I looked at the screen again.
Sebastian had read the message,And now he was calling.
