The Night I Met Him.
Two years later.
"Man, you've been here all day. You need a break", Jake, his best friend said.
Alex has spent over 3 hours on this painting. Now, twenty two, final year student of this prestigious art university in Brooklyn.
He spends most of his time in the art room. That's gave him peace, still haunted by the fact that Robert could show up any minute to destroy him or take his life away.
"Guy, you got to chill. You make sick paintings, I envy you", Jake was such a comic relief. Alex was glad to always have him
When he ran away from Robert. He took him in till Alex could financially stand his ground.
"I would soon be done. Relax. You seem excited.", he laughed.
"I got something interesting for you, homie. What about you forget these brushes? There is an underground illegal but thrilling bike race tonight in Red hook. You need adrenaline old man, not acrylic"
"I don't think I want to. Especially the fact it's illegal", he stopped painting.
"You're going with me man. I don't care. Go home and change your clothes. I would come fetch you tonight"
"Fine", he sighed.
____
Alex checked his wrist watch. It was 9:30, he hears the doorbell. It was Jake. It took about 40 minutes before they got to the racing spot.
The atmosphere changed as they got closer. The sound of the loud engine grew louder. Flickering lights, smoke, dirty, oil.
Bikers driving around in circles, preparing for their run. Crowd cheered loudly. Alex watches hypnotized, maybe this wasn't bad after all.
Then_
A motorcycle, black slick slices through the crowd. Alex's eyes lingered on this bike.
Jake taped him after seeing what he was looking at.
"He has an insane aura. The call him The Biker king, he has never lost first place to anybody. Heard his name was Jacob Reid, as ex military officer"
This biker takes off his helmet, they locked eyes. Tattoos, leather gloves, chains. He looked like he was in his 30s. His eyes , something about his eyes hids a dark past. Sharp jaws, broad shoulders, definitely intimidating.
He was pulled to him immediately.
Jacob winked before driving off, but was it at him?.
The crowd cheered louder, the race just finished with Jacob coming first place.
He turned to Jake. "I'm going home, let's go"
"Not yet man, look at the pretty ladies here. You can go if you want to.",he said, licking his lips.
The night was getting colder, it was past midnight and it was so difficult to get a cab.
He noticed a light behind him, then the sound of a bike.
"Hey, kid. Going home without your friend?"
He drove slowly towards him.
"Mind if I give you a ride home?."
"I don't", he smiled.
"Hop on then"
He hands him a helmet.
"You would have to hold onto me tight. Sweetheart."
Alex has his hands around Jacob's waist.
They finally got to Alex's apartment.
"It's quite close to the uni over here. You study?", he asked.
"Yes, I do. Painting".
"Wow, you should paint me sometime"
Jacob flirts. "You shouldn't have been at the game tonight. I know you are someone that doesn't go to stuff like that"..
"I was just there for the ride, not the trouble."
"Well, I'm trouble and I think you being there was for me"
He hands him his phone.
"Put your number here, Alex. I might need that painting soon....or you", he smiled.
"Oh, right. Anytime", he pressed his number into his phone.
"I would save this as the cute painter"
"Hey, really", Alex laughed.
"I would wait till I see you inside."
"Wave from your window when you get in"
"Alright, bye", he turned walking towards the door.
Ran up stairs, two steps at a time.
He ran to the window, waving to Jacob who was still outside by his bike.
He smiled back and drove off.
Alex took a deep breath,he hasn't felt like this over someone since.....Robert.
