He was now standing in front of his full-height mirror, he made sure he had the mirror installed in every house that he owned.
A normal person would think that he was just gazing at the city and its beautiful skyline but he was just reliving his memory of Mia running out of the mansion seven years ago. Why didn't he stop her?
But now his thoughts were filled with Emma, how was she going to cope with his Grandma's tantrums? Because he was sure that she would ask her unnecessary questions.
"Mr. Anderson, would you need anything else?" Leila, his housekeeper asked.
He was so engrossed in his thinking about Emma that he had not heard her come in at all.
"No, there's no need, you can go home now," Lucas replied.
"Okay, Sir, I will take my leave now," Leila declared, as she turned back and started walking towards the door.
She was about to turn the doorknob when 0she suddenly remembered that she had not handed Lucas the document that had come in earlier for him while he was away, so she went back and dropped it on his table, no questions asked and no replies given.
Lucas stared hard at the document. He knew exactly what it was, he had asked for it. He had asked a private investigator to find out all about Emma, he was curious about how she looked so much like Mia.
He was contemplating whether to go through the document or not, but his curiosity got the best of him and he gave in.
He read through and he found that Emma had only moved to his city one year ago, which meant that she was not Mia, he sighed in relief at the thought. He also saw pictures of Emma holding a small child with an older lady.
Who was the child? He looked so much like Emma. He thought that she must have been his brother because the older lady looked like their mum so he discarded the thought.
Lucas immediately looked at his phone and he saw that it was past noon already. "Time to go pick Emma up" he muttered mindlessly.
He arrived at Emma's place ten minutes later. Emma House was located downtown, but it had a porch lined with sunflowers and daisies. It gave Lucas the feeling of home.
Lucas dialed Emma and she picked up on the first ring "Are you ready Miss Smith, I'm in front of your house," Lucas said over the phone to Emma.
"What!!!" Emma shrieked, she just got out of the bath, why didn't he call her earlier? "What type of man comes to pick up a lady without calling her" she muttered under her breath.
"Well, Miss Smith, or should I say Mrs. Anderson, sorry if I made you uncomfortable by coming late but I am getting really tired of standing outside and I would appreciate it if you come and let me in," Lucas replied, cutting the call off.
"Wait he's outside," Emma gasped. She was not expecting him to be here. She suddenly heard knocking on the door.
Emma was panicking...He was truly here. She looked around her house and everywhere was a mess, she hadn't cleaned at all because she came back very late yesterday and woke up late today.
She took a deep breath as she got to the door. "Come in" She said as she opened the door, her breath still shaky.
There he was, in all glory, Lucas Anderson. He was already dressed up for the dinner even though all he had on was just black suit pants with a white t-shirt, he still looked good.
Lucas was already seated when Emma realized something, She didn't tell Lucas her address so how did he find out?
Was he following her, did he already know that she was Mia, did he know about Jacob, a thousand thoughts were running through her head but she played it cool. "I
will be done soon, so please wait a while." she told him.
Lucas found Emma's eyes "I will wait."
The truth was that Lucas was curious and that was why he had run down to her house, he wanted to see if the child he saw was Emma's because he looked too much like her.
He looked around her house trying to find traces to link them together but Emma had nothing, there were no pictures at all... Lucas couldn't feel it at first but he noticed it now. Emma's house felt so cold, there were no emotions at all. The walls were painted either grey or dark grey.
"Was she usually like this," he thought, but then again he didn't even know her.
"I'm done, we can go now," Emma said as she walked into the living room where Lucas was waiting for her.
Lucas turned his head immediately to the sound of her voice and his eyes widened for a second.
He was right about the red dress, it fit her perfectly, hugging her curves with elegance. The modest neckline and flowing hemline added grace, making her more captivating.
Lucas couldn't resist the urge to hold her as he walked slowly towards her.
He raised her chin so that she was looking directly into his eyes. "You are so beautiful," he said, pulling her closer to him.
They stood looking at each other like that for five seconds when Lucas suddenly broke it off.
He was back to his emotionless self, his jaw clenched "Let's go, Emma," He told her while avoiding her eyes.
Lucas kept on giving Emma the silent treatment in the car till they got to the Andersons Mansion.
He opened the door for her and gave her his hand "Don't answer any unnecessary questions, you can just let me do the talking," he stated.
Lucas glanced at Emma through the corner of his eyes as she put her hands in his, he couldn't believe that he was so close to kissing her. He felt annoyed at himself for even having that thought.
"Where is Grandma," Lucas asked William, the butler, he had been waiting by the door for them since they got into the mansion.
"She's at the room at other side of the villa waiting for you," William replied, his eyes flashing with surprise when he saw Emma. He was going to comment when he saw Lucas nod at him so he stopped.
In no time Lucas and Emma reached the other side of the villa, the only thing between them and Lucas's grandmother was the tall doors that Lucas was already pulling open.
"We're here Grandma," Lucas said, looking over at Emma. The corners of his mouth quickly turned up into a smile as he walked into the room.
Silence filled the room instantly. The sound of cutlery falling on the table cutting through it. "Mia!!!...," Darcy screeched, surprise and confusion throughout her face.
Lucas darted his eyes between his grandma and Emma and he sighed. "This is going to be one long dinner."
