Chapter 8
She rolled her eyes and looked at the high ceiling. Since the first day that man left her there, his staff had made her do all sorts of things. She was being forced to learn how to behave like royalty, the proper etiquette and the manner of how to behave like a proper lady with grace and elegance, how to dance, even on how to curtsy, which annoyed the hell out of her to the point of wanting to attack her private tutors. Why did she have to learn all of that?
"I'll go down in a minute."
"Yes, my lady," answered Aileen.
She had no intention of going anywhere. Her only plan now was to go back to the Weapon and Training room. She still needed to hone her fighting skills, and that was her favorite part of everything she did on that island. She meticulously studied how to use every weapon. And she was getting very good at them. She had sworn to use everything she would learn against that evil man. Even after being confined there for days, her mind about her revenge hadn't changed. It would take more than a million threats from Zafrix Wolfe for her determination to waver in the slightest.
Aileen stared at her as she remained unmoving in her seat. "You should go down this time, Lady Marianne. Your private tutors are almost out of patience."
"I don't care."
"But Lady-"
"You wouldn't want to challenge my patience, Aileen," Sofia said coldly to the woman.
"But..." the woman started again but stopped when Sofia gave her a sharp glare.
Aileen watched Sofia as she closed the enormous book she was reading and didn't bother putting it back on the shelf. She would definitely return to it later. She had learned so much. And she wanted to use all of it against the man's kingdom.
"Go."
"Yes, Lady Marianne," Aileen replied, having no choice but to leave. The woman bowed and curtsied to her.
Sofia didn't look at her as the woman did that. She didn't like it. She didn't like how the man's staff treated her as if she were royalty. She didn't want them to treat or consider her as someone special to Zafrix Wolfe.
She stood from the swivel chair and went outside the library, crossed the living room, climbed up the staircase, and went inside her bedroom. Her own bedroom. When Zafrix left, she moved rooms, and his staff couldn't do anything about what she wanted. Even if the man had threatened them, she didn't care. She stayed there to think clearly again. Ever since she had confronted Zafrix, her mind had been a mess. She needed to be alone to gather her scattered wits. That's why it was good that the man had temporarily distanced himself from her.
But deep inside her heart, she was left with an intolerable ache of loneliness.
She changed into clothes suitable for her training. She pulled on a navy blue sports bra and shorts before tying her long red hair. There was a light knocking on the door, signaling the presence of a warrior werewolf.
"Come in."
A muscular man entered and quickly averted his gaze when he saw what she was wearing. He even stepped back slightly, standing by the open door. The man kept his eyes downward as a sign of respect.
"Your instructors are ready, Lady Marianne," he said.
"Tell them to leave the place. I don't need instructors."
The man looked at her hesitantly before quickly averting his gaze again. "But Alpha Rex strictly ordered that-"
"You should know better than to argue with me." Sofia looked coldly at the man, who was still looking down. "I will attack those humans if you wouldn't leave this room," she threatened, even though she had no intention of doing so.
These past few days, Sofia was hard-pressed with her training, leaving little time for thought or emotion. That's why the man's staff firmly believed she would do everything she said, especially since they had witnessed so many times how she had tried to attack their King Alpha. But whenever she had downtime, she couldn't help but remember the man. Even the emotions that overwhelmed her whenever his skin touched hers.
They could do nothing as Sofia spent hours alone in the Weapon and Training room, locking herself in. As Sofia organized the used crossbows in the rack, the door burst open, and two women and two men, her private tutors, entered, wearing their elegant attire. She didn't look at them and continued what she was doing. She had sensed their presence even before they entered. And based on their expressions, she knew why they were there.
The four approached, their heels clacking on the tiled floor. One of the women angrily chastised her. "This is really uncalled for, Lady Marianne! We weren't hired and brought here just to stand around!"
"Then leave, Cathryn," she replied emotionlessly.
"That's beside the point, Miss Marianne. We can't leave this island until we've done our job," Jamira said irritably, hands on her hips.
Sofia suppressed a smirk. Knowing Zafrix Wolfe, she wasn't surprised by the conditions he had given the four mortals. She also knew that Zafrix was very well-known among humans, with his businesses and high profile. No one could say no to Zafrix Wolfe except her.
Except her...
"I believe that is no longer my problem. You should have thought twice before you accepted his offer." She faced the four, and it was clear from their faces how much their patience was running out with her. "But knowing how much he can offer, you really couldn't have refused him."
Nathan angrily approached her and poked her in the face. "I don't know why Mr. Wolfe is wasting his precious time on a worthless, uncivilized person like you! If I were him, there are so many more beautiful, more famous, and more elegant women out there who are more deserving of his attention. Unlike you-"
Nathan stopped speaking when Sofia suddenly grabbed his index finger and twisted it. The man screamed in pain and knelt on the floor. She didn't stop or let go, even as Francis and Jamira came to intervene.
"What the hell are you doing?! Let him go!" Cathryn yelled in shock.
Sofia ignored them and glared intently at Nathan, who was writhing in pain. The other three stared at her in shock. "Then, force these words to sink into your useless, puny little mind, Nathan," she hissed. "I don't care if there are other women much prettier than me. I also don't care what that man can give you. And I especially don't care if you don't make it out of here alive!"
She shoved the man away. The three stared at her with a dumbstruck expression before rushing to Nathan's aid, who was clutching his index finger. They were surprised by her unexpected strength, as Sofia had pushed the man quite hard.
"Move!" she yelled at Jamira and Francis, who were blocking the doorway.
They hastily moved aside and went to Nathan, who was still wincing in pain. Sofia abandoned her private tutors and headed outside the mansion. She growled at all of Zafrix's staff who tried to follow her, and surprisingly, they remained rooted in their positions. She didn't know why Zafrix had hired ordinary humans as private tutors, but it was likely so she wouldn't consider attacking them.
She couldn't care less that she had harmed an ordinary human. Her rebellious side had taken over. She was truly angered by Nathan's words. Worthless. Uncivilized. She growled again as anger surged back into her chest.
"...more beautiful, more famous, and more elegant women out there who are more deserving of his attention."
She felt even more furious as those words replayed in her mind.
Fuck this!
She quickened her pace, not paying attention to where she was going. She no longer felt the presence of Zafrix's staff, which was good; they should leave her alone!
She headed towards the cliff that she had discovered on her second day on the island. She walked uncaringly towards the very edge, forgetting the warning sign that was almost invisible under the thick leaves of a tree branch. That signage let everyone know that the place was on the verge of collapsing any day now because of the recent typhoon.
She slumped down at the edge of the cliff. The fall was quite deadly. And even she wouldn't survive if she fell there. Even though the view was incredibly beautiful, the fact that the cliff was too high couldn't hide the truth that death awaited underneath. She looked down after taking several deep breaths. She watched as the huge, strong waves of salty water kept crashing against sharp, gigantic rocks, as if waving a taunting hand at her to go and jump down.
It'll be too easy. Seeing as death is the only way for her to be able to escape that man.
She contemplated for a few minutes, letting her anger subside. But before long, she stopped as she felt a slight tremor where she was sitting. Before she realized what was happening, there was a loud cracking sound that caused her to tighten her grip on the rough edges of where she was sitting, her feet dangerously dangling over the edge.
