Chapter 7 Court wedding

CHAPTER 7

The doctor walked in with a warm and approachable demeanor, his dark hair neatly styled. He wore a crisp white shirt with the collar unbuttoned with a stethoscope around his neck , giving him a professional yet relaxed appearance. His medium complexion and confident expression contribute to an air of friendliness and approachability. He exuded a sense of calm and collected confidence, as if he is comfortable in his surroundings. His posture and attire suggest a professional setting, possibly a medical environment, where he is at ease and in his element. Doctor Karan entered the room, a look of surprise on his face. "Ember, I must say, I'm amazed. You're finally ready to receive treatment." Ember nodded, a hint of determination in her eyes and a warm smile spreading across her lips ,"I'm ready, Doctor Karan "

The medical team exchanged skeptical glances. Ember's actions over the past few days had shown a clear reluctance to cooperate with treatment. But after Alexander's unexpected visit, she had made a sudden 180-degree turn. As the treatment progressed, Ember began to regain some colour. Her eyes, once sunken and lifeless, now sparkled with a hint of life . The day of the wedding arrived, and Ember found herself standing beside Alexander at the courthouse, receiving their marriage certificate. The ceremony was brief, with only Alexander's brothers, Miles, and a few other close associates in attendance. After the ceremony, the small group made their way to Alexander's villa, where a modest reception was set up. The atmosphere was tense, with Alexander's brothers exchanging skeptical glances. Miles ever the rebel, raised his glass of wine to a toast. "To Alexander and Ember. May their union be...enlightening." The others echoed the toast, their voices laced with a mix of curiosity and wariness . The reception was a formal affair, with everyone going through the motions, but the underlying tension was palpable.

As the evening drew to a close, Ember couldn't help but wonder why Alexander had chosen to marry her. What was his motive? And what lay ahead for their union? As the last guest departed, the villa grew quiet, the only sound the soft hum of the evening breeze. Ember and Alexander stood alone, the tension between them palpable. Ember knew that this marriage would be anything but smooth and happy. Despite not knowing the reason behind Alexander's decision to marry her, she sensed the deep-seated resentment he and his brothers harbored against her. As she followed the housekeeper to the guest room, Ember couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. She had always dreamt of marrying Alexander, but not like this – not in a loveless, contractual arrangement. The guest room was lavishly decorated, with a plush king-size bed and an elegant en-suite bathroom. The housekeeper handed Ember a small folder containing the marriage contract agreement.

As Ember scanned the document, her eyes widened in dismay. The terms were stark: she was not to touch Alexander, not to speak to him unless absolutely necessary, and not to expect any financial support or privileges. The agreement also made it clear that Ember was free to do as she pleased, but she was not to cross Alexander or overstep her boundaries. It was a stark reminder that this was a marriage in name only. Despite the bleak terms, Ember was determined to make the marriage work. She took a deep breath, letting the weight of her situation settle upon her. As the evening drew to a close, Ember retreated to the en-suite bathroom, her exhaustion palpable. She took a long, hot shower, letting the water wash away the stress and anxiety of the day. As she slipped into bed, Ember felt a sense of numbness wash over her. She knew that tomorrow would bring its own set of challenges, but for now, she just closed her eyes and let the darkness claim her.
