Chapter 6 YOU'RE NOT SERIOUS. ARE YOU

Lillian's POV

"How did this happen?" I whispered as I hurried out of the premises with my face flushed with embarrassment. I tried to recall what had happened before I found myself beside Grayson, but I couldn't.

My memories from last night were hazy, and the only thing I remembered was having drinks with Lily. It feels like I'm about to run mad, cos how can I not recall an entire sixteen hours when I didn't even take more than two glasses of wine?

If there is anyone who can explain what happened, it is Lily, I thought to myself. Because, how can I explain the fact that one minute I am having a glass of wine, the next, I am woken up beside my CEO, naked.

Thank God he didn't recognize me as one of his staff. I could have just kissed my job goodbye by now, especially with the way I shouted at him. I had always suspected Lily's affair with him, even though it was an on-and-off one, because I'm sure she has no feelings for him.

I got into a taxi and informed him of my destination. With my hands on my face, I let my tears roll freely, lots of thoughts ran through my mind, and questions I had no answer to. 'How could Grayson treat me like I am some kind of slut. I worked so hard to keep a good reputation. Is this how it's all going down the drain in just a few hours?

Before now, I had nurtured feelings for my boss, even though I knew it was just an imagination that wasn't going to happen, because he was with Lily. But after the incident earlier, the feelings I had for him slowly turned to anger. The more I thought about it, the angrier I became.

With determination, I took my phone from my purse and called Lily, I was going to ask her, she was the only one who could answer my question, the only one who should know what happened yesterday. I dialled her line several times, but she wasn't picking up my calls. Then I decided to go to her place.

As soon as I got home, I went directly to the bathroom and washed myself with so much force that I could break a glass if my skin were one. I felt so filthy, I felt useless. But, I am not going to let this put me down, at least not until I figure out the truth behind all these.

I stepped out of the bathroom and dressed up. I had taken a week off work to prepare for my dad's burial, so I cannot afford to miss work today too. I will try my best not to run into Grayson, that's my best option.

While putting on my shoes, I heard the doorbell ring. "Not now I muttered. I didn't want to see anyone, but the doorbell continued ringing, and I had no choice but to open.

Lily barged in immediately the door opened and before I could utter a word, she slapped me. "How dare you? How could you do such a thing to me?" She screamed at me in mock anger.

"You couldn't look for any random person to satisfy your sexual urge, you had to choose my boyfriend, how low did you stoop?", she continued ranting and insulting me.

I felt like a fool, looking at my twin raining insults on me and I was unable to defend myself because I became more confused. I was thinking she orchestrated this, but here she is appearing as if she was genuinely angry.

"Don't you ever talk to me again, and stay the hell away from Grayson" she yelled and stormed out of my house. It was at that moment I knew all was wrong, I just lost my father, I wasn't going to lose my sister too.

"Lily, you have to believe me, I don't know how it happened, I don't even know how I got to his room. The last thing I remember was having wine with you, you have to believe me, please. We just lost dad, I don't want to lose you too", I begged running after her, trying to explain.

"Lies...those are all lies. We were having a glass of wine and I told you I was going to the restroom. When I came back, you were gone, I searched everywhere for you but couldn't find you", Lily recalled furiously, "And you expect me to believe it was a mistake and you didn't know how it happened? I don't ever want to see you again", she barked and left.

I sank to the floor and broke down in tears. This cannot be happening to me. "Dad, I wish you were here, maybe I wouldn't be in this much pain", I sobbed, gazing up at the sky and almost choking on my tears.

Grayson's POV

All my life, no one has ever spoken to me the way Lilian did. To say I was shocked was the least expression to qualify what I felt. But I didn't care, not about what she said or how she felt.

All I care about is how to explain to Lily that what she saw was not something I planned. I needed to explain to her that it was a mistake, and I needed to make it up to her in any way possible.

I went home, showered and immediately left for the office. My stomach grumbled showing I hadn't eaten anything since the day before, but I had no appetite. The only thoughts running through my head were how to explain things to Lily.

I settled in my office, trying to think through all that had happened, but it was all cut short when Percy barged into my office. "Don't you have the decency to knock?" I yelled furiously before she could say anything.

"I'm sorry sir", she apologized, but I noticed she was uncomfortable.

"What do you want?" I questioned in a calmer voice, making her relax a little.

"Mr Victor Caldwell is here to see you and he said it's urgent", she informed.

"Tell him I'll come to him later today. I have work to do.", I instructed firmly. I was tired of my Uncle telling me what to do and what not to do. He had been on my neck for months now, preaching getting a wife to me like he was some kind of pastor. This was the only way to get the merger we've long awaited with the Verox industries, but at the same time, he had to understand that a wife isn't someone you just pick up from the street.

"Haven't I told you to knock before...", I couldn't finish my statement when I looked up to see my uncle with a furious look. His etched brow made his already hard face even harder.

"Why did you cancel our appointment yesterday? And yet you still do not want to see me today", he blurted angrily.

" I was...",

"I don't want to hear your excuses, besides, that's not why I am here today", he said as he dragged a seat towards himself, sat and threw an envelope in front of me. I ignored the envelope and chose to hear from him instead. It might be another manipulative plan of his to fix me up with someone I don't love just because of the merger.

"What happened last night?", he asked, his scrutinizing gray eyes piercing into mine.

"What do you mean?" I questioned with a clueless look. He couldn't have found out about last night, could he?

"Oh, cut the crap, young man, you know exactly what I am talking about", he said angrily.

"I don't want to hear a word from you if you are only going to tell lies. In that envelope before you is a picture of you and a lady in a hotel room. I managed to pay the guy who brought it to me off, so you don't wake up to it in the headlines. You are a reputable CEO, you can't be seen in places like that. I believe you are aware of that."

"How did you find out about this? It only just happened yesterday", I said confused.

"I have my ways, besides, that should be the last of your worries. For this to not cause a problem when it eventually gets out, there's only one thing you can do", he stated with all seriousness.

"What's that Uncle?" I inquired anxiously.

"You have to get married to the lady in that picture immediately. That's the only way we could convince the board. You were at the hotel with your wife. Simple and easy. You've gotten yourself a wife, the merger will push through and it will be a win for everyone."

"What!!!!"
