Ava stared at Susanna angrily. "I think you have gone too far. Get out of my way."
Susanna had a mischievous smile on her face. "Mrs. Smith sorry, Miss Ava, this suitcase is a luxury item Mrs. Arabella Smith brought back from Eldoria. It's very expensive; you can't take it with you."
Ignoring them, Susanna nodded and grabbed a handbag, only to be blocked again.
"Miss Ava, you can't take that one either. Mr. Smith bought this as a souvenir from Celestia last month."
Ava frowned, realizing Susanna was deliberately making things difficult for her. Every piece of luggage in the room was not hers; how was she supposed to pack her belongings?
Arabella chimed in, "Seems like you're reluctant to leave, can't even find a bag to pack, huh? No worries, I've prepared one for you. Susanna."
Susanna nodded in understanding, ran off, and soon returned with a plastic bag.
"Miss Ava, Mrs Smith specially prepared this for you. It's a bit old-fashioned, but it should do. Please use this."
Susanna let out a cold laugh, eyes blazing with anger, forcing Susanna to step back. She knelt to repack her things. Behind her, Arabella's voice came again.
"Make sure to check her luggage later, so she doesn't take anything that doesn't belong to her, especially documents."
Hearing this, Ava recalled Logan's words that he doesn't want the child. Discreetly, she tore the pregnancy results into tiny pieces and threw them on the floor. As she did, she made a silent promise, "Baby, it is me and you against the world. I will protect you and we will stay together forever. We will stay far away from Logan and his family. They will never see you again."
When Ava had finished packing her things and dragged the plastic bag out of the closet, she asked coldly, "Do you want something?"
Arabella covered her nose full of disdain. "This plastic bag stinks, let her leave quickly."
Susanna got a hint and stepped forward hastily, examining the plastic bag while muttering. "My eyesight isn't what it used to be. I must be getting old."
It wasn't until Susanna kept backing away and finally left that Ava realized something was wrong. She yelled. "Hey, what are you doing? Give me back-"
Before she could finish, Susanna pretended to trip, tossing the bag. The plastic bag tore open, her clothes scattered floor down to the living room.
Ava ran the hallway and looked downstairs, yelling, "You guys are too much."
She rushed down to gather her things but then she realized that the bag had torn making it impossible to pack. Frustrated, she threw the bag on the floor.
"What's all this noise? What are you up to now?" Logan came down the stairs in a loose bathrobe.
Seeing the scattered clothes and the torn bag beside Ava, he frowned. "Playing hard to get again? Trying to act pitiful? Who are you trying to fool this time? Grandma's not here!"
Grandma Calliope was the only one who loved and cared for her. If she found out about Ava leaving she would definitely get angry.
Ava clutched her dead phone, feeling detached. "I didn't do anything."
Arabella limped out, pretending to be concerned. "Logan, she was packing to leave but then found this dirty plastic bag. I tried to stop her, but she wouldn't listen."
Susanna chimed in, "Yes, Mr. Smith We were just trying to convince Miss Ava not to use that bag but she insisted. If word got out, people might think the Smith family mistreats her."
The room fell silent. Ava stood there, listening to their lies, feeling like a wooden statue.
Logan's eyes were piercing as he coldly asked, "Don't you have anything to say?"
A hint of sarcasm flashed in Ava's eyes. "Haven't you already heard what you wanted? What more do you want to hear?"
Logan snapped, "Ava, aren't you ever satisfied? What more do you want?"
Ava was too exhausted to argue anymore, but Logan's accusation reignited her fury. "What more do I want? Logan, take a hard look at your conscience! Ever since we got married, have I lived like some pampered rich wife or more like a servant? No, not even a servant gets paid. What do I get? I've managed everything for you, through thick and thin, and you still see me as some greedy leech. You're not blind in your eyes; you're blind in your heart. Or maybe you just don't care. Either way, I'm done. We're divorced. I don't want to be your slave any longer. Is that too much to ask?"
Logan's eyes flashed with surprise but quickly returned to normal. "Are you done talking?"
Ava turned her head away, unwilling to argue any further.
Arabella, seeing the tension between Ava and Logan, knew things were getting bad. She quickly interjected, "Ava, are you in such a hurry to leave because you've found another man."
Logan's face turned cold, his eyes scrutinizing Ava. But Ava had made up her mind and refused to say another word, which Logan took as a silent admission.
"Ava, you live in my house, eat my food, and you're with another man?"
Ava's anger hit a new peak. She threw her pocket onto the ground, scattering its contents everywhere.
"Take it back."
Logan didn't even glance at the clothes on the ground. His eyes stayed on her. "And the clothes you're wearing, I bought those too."
Ava gritted her teeth. "Logan! You're shameless. I've served your family for three years, that's enough to pay for these clothes!"
She stood there, unbuttoning her shirt without a care, revealing her delicate collarbone and a hint of a curve.
Logan's eyes grew colder as he stared at her. Finally, with a serious expression, he said, "Ava, I never want to see you again!"
After those harsh words, he turned his back on her, his silhouette as cold as ever.
Ava's hand stopped, a look of mockery flashing in her eyes. With a slightly sorrowful tone, she said, "From now on, I hope we never meet again!"
Arabella, pretending to be regretful, said, "Come on Ava, can't you just say something sweet for ones. Logan is not that bad if you say something nice he can let you stay till the next morning."
"No need, Bella," Ava said with great dignity. "Save your fake concern for Logan! I don't need it!"
She gathered the clothes from the floor, folded them, and stuffed them back into the plastic bag. Despite the summer heat, a deep chill settled inside her. Sometimes, she envied those who seemed to have all the luck.
Whenever she was mistreated, she imagined her family swooping in to defend her. But every time she woke from that dream, the loneliness only grew.
As she opened the door and stepped outside, she was stunned to see a row of luxury cars parked at the gate. Among them, a long silver-gray Lincoln stood out, gleaming under the streetlights. As Ava walked out, a dozen men in black suits lined up in a neat formation to greet her.
The leader approached Ava and said respectfully, "Miss, we're here to take you away."
For a moment, Ava was stunned by the scene, wondering if they had mistaken her for someone else. She couldn't believe she was the "Miss" they were referring to.
Arabella, seeing this, sneered, "Ava, what is this? The money Logan gave you was for a stable life after the divorce, not to save face. Where did you find these extras? You're too vain, and it won't end well for you!"
Just as Ava was about to respond, she saw a familiar figure approach her. She gaped, "Could this be him? Impossible!"
