Chapter 5 A Lonely Road

A Lonely Road

MILAN'S POV

The pack's divided, and it feels like there's a storm brewing. I'm caught in the middle, feeling like a lone wolf in my own home.

The Alpha of the Night Shade Pack, Alpha Meyer, who is also Scott's father, is torn as well. I can see it in his eyes.

"Milan, you've got to tell us who the father is," Alpha Meyer urged me, his voice filled with concern.

"I... I can't," I stuttered, feeling the weight of everyone's eyes on me. "I never got a good look at him, it was all a blur." The whispers wrapped around me, weaving a tapestry of opinions that stung like bitter arrows.

"She's lying, I'm sure of it."

"Milan should have been more careful."

"Does she even care about the pack?"

"Why doesn't she just leave? She's causing trouble."

"Maybe she's hiding something."

My heart sank with each word, each sentence slicing through me like icy blades. I wanted to scream out, to tell them that I didn't know, that I wasn't hiding anything. But the words caught in my throat, suffocated by the weight of their doubts.

"She's always been trouble."

"I heard she never really belonged here."

"Why should we believe her?"

"Alpha Meyer should have handled this better."

"Maybe we're better off without her."

Their voices, once familiar and comforting, now felt like shards of glass cutting into my soul. I wanted to run, to escape the relentless judgment that had become my reality. But there was nowhere to hide, nowhere to go.

Tears blurred my vision as I watched them all talk about me.

"Milan, you leave us no choice. You must tell us or leave the pack," Alpha Meyer's voice echoed through the clearing.

I felt my heart shatter. Leave the pack? That was my family, my home. But I couldn't betray the truth. I didn't know who he was. Tears welled up in my eyes.

"I can't," I said softly, my voice barely audible. "I don't know who he is."

The tension in the clearing was palpable.

Everyone stared at me, waiting for an explanation. I knew I couldn't tell them the truth, because I didn't have the answers. I don't know who the father is. I also knew that I couldn't stay silent. I took a deep breath and forced myself to meet their gazes.

"I know you all think I've betrayed you, but I haven't," I said, my voice shaking. "I just don't have the answers you're looking for."

"I made a mistake and slept with someone who isn't my mate, but it wasn't my intention...I...was heartbroken by my mate and...he..."

"Liar!" Rosa shouted.

"How dare you lie here! You cheated on your mate and now you're saying that he broke your heart? You are a bitch!" I looked at her as tears flowed down my eyes. She was the cause of everything and the reason my mate rejected me, but here she was confronting me with boldness and calling me a bitch and a whore.

"I...was betrayed, Alpha Meyer. My mate betrayed me and rejected me." I spoke waiting for Alpha Meyer's words.

Alpha Meyer's gaze was pensive, his expression a mix of concern and conflict. "Milan, I'm sorry for what you've been through. But without any clarity on the father... I can't change what's been decided."

His words were like a final blow. It felt like my heart was being torn apart, the pain almost unbearable. I wanted them to see the truth, to understand my pain, but it seemed impossible.

"Please, Alpha Meyer," I begged, tears streaming down my cheeks. "I don't know what to do. I just want a chance to stay, to prove that I'm not a threat."

Alpha Meyer's eyes narrowed. "That's not good enough," he said, his tone cold.

"Please, Alpha Meyer...Just give me a chance..." I begged as tears flowed down my eyes.

Alpha Meyer's expression softened, but his resolve remained firm. "I'm sorry, Milan. You leave us no choice."

I felt like the ground had disappeared beneath me. Banished. Pregnant and alone, suddenly adrift in a world that used to be so familiar. The ones I thought would stand by me now saw me as a problem.

Packing a few belongings, I left the only home I'd ever known. The woods felt different, colder as if even they knew I didn't belong anymore. I didn't know where to go or what to do. Fear and uncertainty gripped me like icy claws.

I looked up at the sky. I didn't know where to go or what to do next. I felt scared and lost like I didn't belong anywhere.

"I wish I knew what to do," I whispered to the sky. "Where can I go now?"

I found a quiet spot under a big tree. I sat there, feeling sad and confused. The moon shone bright, but it didn't show me a way out of this mess.

"What do I do now?" I asked the night quietly. "Where do I fit in?"

I held my belly gently, feeling the baby moving inside me. I promised myself I'd keep going, and find a place where we could be safe.

"I'll find a way for us," I promised my baby. "We'll find a new place to start again." "I'll protect you, little one," I whispered, my hand still caressing my belly. "We'll find a way, somehow."

Standing up, I dusted off my clothes and whispered to myself, "This journey might feel lonely, but I have to be brave for us."

Each step I took felt heavy like I was carrying a big weight. I felt sad thinking about the family I left behind and scared because I didn't know what would happen next.

"I'll make things better," I said softly to my baby. "We'll find a way."

Despite not knowing what lay ahead, I held onto hope. Closing my eyes, I believed that somewhere out there, a fresh start was waiting for us and I needed to take those steps towards it.
