Chapter 4 I'm preparing your pit

Emerson fortunately grabbed Mario's arm before his fist could land on him. He was preventing himself from hurting the busybody and troublesome man, but then, because of being underestimated, which he really hates, he clutched his arm.

"Aaaaaaaa!" Mario cried in pain, thinking that his bones might have been fractured.

"Don't you ever try to hurt me again," Emerson warned in a very serious tone as he wiped the blood from his nose with his left hand.

Mario was shocked by what Emerson did. He was shaking in fear that he might kill him. He fell to his knees, feeling scared. This man was more fearless than he thought.

Emerson took a deep breath again to calm his nerves before letting his roommate go. Then he went to the hedged part of the garden to get ventilated, wondering why there were a lot of people who could hurt others but couldn't accept being hurt back.

A cold and light hand suddenly held Emerson's shoulder. When he looked back, he saw an angel with sparkling golden eyes that seemed to be saying something he couldn't comprehend.

"Why did you walk out of the mansion?" Rebecca broke the silence.

Although Emerson wanted to apologize for what he did earlier, for being so rude to Rebecca's parents, for staring at her white legs, etcetera, etcetera, he remained silent.

"Don't you have something to say?" Rebecca asked in a low voice, but she didn't get any reply from the man, so she turned around to leave.

"No wait!" Emerson grabbed Rebecca's hands, making her look back directly into his brown eyes in a very slow motion.

Emerson couldn't help but admire how beautiful Rebecca was. The way her long, curly blonde hair swayed mesmerized him more. He looked intentionally at her red lips.

"What?" Rebecca asked in a surprised tone. "Will you apologize for letting me fall for that?" She hadn't finished her question when, in a sudden movement, Emerson claimed her lips.

Rebecca's eyes widened at Emerson's unexpected moves. There was something she couldn't explain with the way he kissed her-something personal, and she stayed steady for a while as they both closed their eyes.

After a few moments, as they opened their eyes, they stared at each other's affectionately. Rebecca's rosy cheeks were glowing more as she blushed. Then Emerson let her go, as if he just did that to hush her up.

"Um, I'm sorry, ma'am," Emerson stammered as if he were awakened from his dreams, with the fear of what Rebecca might think of him for being so rude.

Emerson knew it wasn't how he should treat a lady, especially his boss. He should have acted more gently, but he was urged by his feelings, pushing him to act with slight aggression.

Rebecca didn't say anything. She wasn't thinking about how rude Emerson was. She also didn't know why she let him kiss her. What she only knew was that she also liked it.

"Just stop calling me ma'am," Rebecca uttered at last, looking at the ground as her face turned red from embarrassment.

"Okay, Miss Rebecca. But I want to apologize for what happened." Emerson's hands gestured in worry, thinking that she might not forgive him.

"Anyway, I told my parents that you're such a hard-working man, so that they will promote you as the new head worker." Rebecca tried to change the topic as she looked away, not giving him a glance.

"Oh! Thank you for your concern!" Emerson exclaimed. "But it seemed that you had just fanned the flame, because my roommate is like a bomb about to explode right now; he is thinking that I have snatched the position from him."

"Gosh! I didn't know about that. I thought he would allow both of you to become leaders. Did you have a fight?" Rebecca asked worriedly.

"We had, honestly. See this black eye on my eyebrow? I'm not stupid enough to let that pass by without fighting back. I hope you'll understand if I could break his arms and bones," Emerson bragged.

"You did what?" Rebecca exclaimed. She couldn't believe that Emerson could hurt his roommate just because of some trivial matter.

Rebecca immediately ran towards the dormitory to check if Mario was alright. While Emerson didn't know what to do or how he should feel, Rebecca seemed to be mad at him, although he just wanted to defend himself from his roommate.

"But is there something between them for her to react like that?" Emerson wondered while looking at Rebecca, who was running towards the dorm.

When Rebecca reached the dormitory, she found Mario holding his arm on the table. The expression of pain was obviously displayed on his face. Rebecca found out that Emerson was telling the truth, but not the whole truth.

"Are you okay?" Rebecca asked worriedly while entering the room.

"Young lady?" Mario replied in astonishment when he heard Rebecca's worried voice. He wondered if he was just dreaming. "What brings you here?"

Rebbecca pulled up the chair and sat down beside him. "I saw you holding your arm when I passed by. I think you need to visit the infirmary."

Mario shook his head. "No need, ma'am! It's just a little fractured." He tried to speak normally but couldn't stop whimpering. "I'm just fine. But thank you for your concerns."

"Are you sure? But why can't you even pronounce your words well?" Rebecca asked, wondering if Mario was really fine.

"It slightly hurts, but I'm sure nobody can stop this from aching, not even those nurses." Mario held Rebecca's hand and looked into her eyes. "I know you're worried, but I'm telling you, everything will be fine now that you're here."

"Can you stop telling me that? My hairs are standing up to what you're saying." Rebecca withdrew her hand and stood up as she stared at the door.

"Okay. Because you won't visit the clinic, I'll leave you here, but don't blame me that I didn't tell you." Rebbecca walked towards the door. "Please don't work today and take some rest!"

Mario just nodded as Rebecca got out of the room and continued to the mansion when she saw Emerson making another plot of land in the garden. She halted beside him, who appeared to be a hardworking man but enjoyed making others worried.

"Um, can you tell me what you're going to plant here?" Rebecca asked as she stopped behind the man.

"I'm not making a plot; I'm preparing your pit," Emerson mumbled, as if he were being possessed by a demon. He shoved the sharp spade against the ground with his foot.

"What did you say?" Rebecca demanded; she didn't feel comfortable that Emerson was acting weird.

Emerson raised the spade and pointed to Rebecca's legs, abdomen, and breast with the thought that he had found the right time to complete his task, especially since no one was there. But when he looked up and saw Rebecca's curious face and golden eyes, Emerson lost strength again.

"Oh, Miss Rebecca, I didn't know that was you!" Emerson exclaimed, as if he didn't expect he would hurt a beautiful woman.

"I think so. You're not planning to cut me with that, are you?" Rebecca asked, curiosity shown on her face.

Emerson lightly scratched the back of his head, thinking how scary women's instincts were. He lowered the spade and planted it on the ground, then stared at Rebecca's face while making it a support. He was once again awestruck by her beauty.

"Can you stop staring at me like that?" Rebecca pushed him back to the point that he could almost lose his balance and fall to the ground.

"Why are you so beautiful?" Emerson complimented in a form of question.

"Of course I know. But you can't use that trick to make me forget what you did. I will use this spade to punish you for making me so worried." Rebecca pulled the spade from the ground, while Emerson had already distanced himself from a serious threat.

"Hahaha! You're so easy to cheat!" Emerson shouted as he started running around the garden.

"Get ready if I catch you; I will surely break your bones!" Rebecca warned as she prepared to chase the man.

"Hep! You two, stop playing here!" The old man reprimanded, as he was annoyed that the two were chasing around like children.

"Sorry, brother Damian, but Rebecca wants to break my legs!" Emerson reported, then he stopped running when he saw Elfedio approaching them with a glittering machete in his hand.

Rebecca noticed why Emerson stopped: her father looked like someone who could commit homicide with the sharp thing in his hand, but she knew how her father would act, so she walked to meet him.

"What are you doing here, child?" Elfedio asked Rebecca as he looked around and saw Damian and Emerson cleaning the area.

Emerson didn't want his boss to get mad at them, so he stopped playing around and hurriedly did his work, though he couldn't take his eyes off of Rebecca.

"Sorry, dad, but I just want to help the workers," Rebecca apologized.

"Don't be stubborn; I already told you not to work." Elfedio took the spade from Rebecca's hand. "Your mom will surely be mad if she sees you in that situation."

"But Dad, I want to help. Please let me, even just for now," Rebecca insisted as she wiped the sweat out of her face with her dirty hand.

"Okay, but don't tire yourself; go home when the sun is up." Elfedio sighed at seeing the embers on Rebecca's face, which were mixing with her sweat. He remembered what she looked like when she was younger.

Rebecca jumped and cheerfully turned around several times while her father went towards the new head worker. She stared right at them, especially at Emerson, who was pretending not to see her but secretly snickered to see her face.

"So, you already know what your work as a head worker is?" Elfedio asked Emerson. "Anyway, why didn't I see Mario here?"

"Yes, sir, I already know my work; my brother Damian told me about it," Emerson replied. "And I want to apologize that Mario is absent."

"That's good!" Elfedio commended. "But what happened to Mario?"

Emerson sighed in regret and sympathy before saying that "Mario has fractured bones in his arm."

"I see. Perhaps he needs to rest for now," Elfedio said in a low tone. He wasn't really surprised that Mario was feeling ill; perhaps he accidentally hurt himself again.

"You've got that right, sir." Emerson secretly smiled like a devil, then he continued working.
