' 'Good, ' she says.
'I know you don't want to settle with Cynthia. I wouldn't settle with her if I were
in your shoes but it's what your father wants.'
'Dad has a stroke, mom. He can't even feed himself, why will he be choosing who I'm to end up with?'
'He's doing it because you don't have the right senses to do it yourself. Bring us a wife and he'll
back down and I'll hand over the companies to you. Bye!' She ends the call.
I throw my phone behind me not caring what happens to it.
"Arrghhh!" I scream in the car as I continuously hit the steering wheel.
No one can hear me from outside.
It's a good thing I parked before I began speaking with mom or I'm sure I'd have killed someone on the road. There is no one as persuasive as mom. Handing over the companies to me will cost her nothing
but no, she chooses to have a way.
I'm not ready to settle down with anyone. Most especially, not with Cynthia. True, she gives the
best sex and that ass of hers has kept me from the club most times but that's it.
That's all she's good at. Nothing more.
I'd hang myself on our first week of marriage.
But mom wants me to quit clubbing and partying.
I have made LutherCorp the greatest company in America all with my clubbing and partying
and yet, handing me a few more companies is giving her a tough time.
I punch the steering wheel again, this time, the car honks and I turn to look out the window.
I fucking have to get that company. It is mine by right. The thought keeps plaguing me when I turns to see a woman being hit by an older man.
The man keeps hitting her even as she's one the ground and then he pulls her hair.
"What the hell?" I hate a lot of things but what I seem to hate the most is a woman being beaten.
Without thinking, I step out of the car and before I know it I'm on the man, holding his hand
before another slap lands on her face.
Vivian's POV
I can't hide my shock as I see David's face and it's obvious he's shocked to see me too but he
turns back to my stepfather.
"How dare you treat a woman like that?" I can feel the anger in those words.
My Stepdad tries to pull his hands free but he isn't strong enough.
me go. This is family business.
"Get away from here and let
David pulls my Stepdad with so much force, he lands a few feet away from me.
The crowds gathered let out a gasp but they don't interfere. I hear the sound of my father's cries
for help but no one steps out to help him.
I suddenly see my mother run into view, surprise on her face.
"Please leave him, he is my husband. He was just angry.
" She cries out and falls on her knees.
The look in his eyes is nothing short of angry.
"He was about to beat you and your daughter to death,
" he says.
"He would have stopped eventually" my mother replies and I almost face palm. How blind can
my mother get?
David gives my Stepdad a last look before leaving him to squirm on the ground.
He walks up to me and stretches forth his hand and I hold on to it, pulling myself from the
ground.
"My car's over there, let's go get you cleaned up.
" He says, walking away.
As I get in the car, I can't believe how this is turning out.
"Mr David, I'm sorry but what are you doing here?" I ask.
He doesn't answer, he ignites the car engine and drives on till we get to the front of a clinic.
David turns off the ignition and unbuckles his seat belt.
"Come with me.
" I do what he asks with a blank mind. The inside of the clinic isn't big at all. Just a room with just a bed and a wardrobe that seems to
have drugs and tools rather than clothes. A woman is sitting on a chair when we get in and she immediately stands up when she sees Mr David. "What are you doing here?" She asks, surprise on her face and I raise my brows a little high at
the lack of formalities.
"Nice to see you too, Bianca. I need a favor from you.
" David replies, tilting his head towards my
direction.
The woman turns to me, acknowledging my presence.
She looks at me from head to toe then back at Mr David with a scrutinized gaze. He only smiles
as he turns around and walks out of the room.
Bianca sighs as she gently moves me to the bed.
We both say nothing as she cleans up my wounds. Not even when I wince in pain.
The moment she places the last plaster on my face, David walks in with a pack of food in his
hands. Bianca gives him another look, causing me to be curious as to what exactly is going on between
the both of them, before she walks out. Leaving me alone with him.
He pulls the chair closer to the bed and sits, holding out the pack in his hand to me.
"Eat." He says. I throw him a look before taking the pack in his hands. I see the burger and chips inside and my
stomach growls, reminding I have not eaten. I begin to munch on it.
"Explain what happened.
" David suddenly says.
This is my chance.
I construct a part of my story for him, telling him the truth about my family's struggle and my
sister's sickness, leaving out every other thing.
It takes him a while to reply.
I watch as he grabs his hair and pulls at it hard.
"What are you making me do, mom?" I hear him mutter under his breath.
"Do you want a change of story?" He finally asks.I tilt my head as I try to understand him.
"Yes, I do.
"He sighs again and sits upright.
"I have a proposal for you.'
"Oh...k."
"I'm going to pay for your sister's treatment, not immediately. I need to keep you in check. I'll
pay you monthly for your service too. It'll seem like you're working for me.
"I don't understand what it is he's talking about but I try to catch on.
"What do I have to do?" I ask.
"Marry me.
"The burger falls from my hand and I almost laugh. "What?" I ask, bemused.
"There is something I need and us getting married is going to get me that thing. But it seems like you need this more than I need what I need. I'll be paying you 1 million dollars monthly till I acquire it.
"I almost can't believe it.
Working in his office was my ticket to getting to him. But this?
He stands from the chair, adjusting his suit.
"You don't have to answer now. Take your time and think it through. I give you three days.
" He turns towards the door, about to leave me to make my decision but I already have.
" I agree, stopping him"
