Chapter 5 Maria's Heart-break

Henry heard the knock on the door, his heart pounding twice as fast, "it must be Maria" he told himself and remained silent still seated on the couch,his rage brooding in him.

Maria was weak and exhausted after working the entire day but she attempted to smile as she saw Henry, her fiancé "Sweetheart sorry for coming home late today I was..."

"Stop right there!"

Henry stopped mid-sentence, suddenly turning his gaze at her, he got up and Maria saw his fist in anger.

Maria's POV

Why is my fiance acting differently? Does he know that I am a nurse and apart from today's work that I have to remain and verify that the operation was done successfully?What does he think that I have done that will see me come home late? Well, I have to tell him and dispel his suspicion.she thought and smiled.

"My love please cool down, I need to explain these to you" Maria pleaded her eyes, demonstrating how exhausted and weak she is after a long day at work.

"And you think that I'm a kid, unaware that I know your dubious ways" Henry asserted his voice cold and hard.

"Dubious ways?"

Maria pondered for a moment" What has happened to my fiance, can't he realize that I'm already exhausted and weak, and he has already accused me of infidelity".

" I'm terribly sorry dear that you're misunderstanding the situation, I'm terribly weak and exhausted and trust me I had a busy day at the hospital today,we have just completed an operation with my physician in the operating room tonight and."

" Shut up,you liar"

Henry cut short his eyes blazing with rage set on her.

Maria's heart dropped in pain,it's no longer a game since he would not let her explain or be heard.

" You want to lie to me with your already concocted lies, do you know that I know what's going on between you and your doctor, you're weak and tired, why won't you be weak after having affairs with him?" Henry said his voice raised and sounded like a thunderstorm.

Maria pinched her eyes while gasping, she's not accustomed to these,"There is a person behind the scene,my fiance Doesn't act in such a way to me".She reflected and opened her eyes looking emotionally at Henry's already stiff face.

Maria shook her head,looking at him with her eyes. Henry was already in a terrible mood. Maria hadn't seen him in these moods since she knew him.

"Who has come and beguiled my love,

Who has stolen your mind away from me Henry,you know I don't do that kind of thing."

Henry sneers, "Now I know full well, you had always fooled me but I had found out your tricks Maria, believe it or not it's all over between..."

"Don't say so Henry!"

Maria screamed as she clung to her bag from her shoulders, Henry looked at her his face still retaining his ferocity.

"Blame me Henry, you know I'm a nurse and I'm working with my doctor, we had one emergency case late this afternoon and we had to perform the operation, that's why I'm reporting late, I was invited to stay at hospital by my friends but I didn't go there because I have always wanted to be in your arms every single night, but I'm shocked with what you're saying, you're talking about the other side of the case", Maria explained as there are tears gushing down her eyes she couldn't help but to do so since she was already exhausted from having a busy workday.

Henry's heart grew soft for some time but got hardened abruptly. "Don't dare me, Don't try to pretend your sympathy with crocodile tears, I don't require you anymore in my life Maria, I have closed the door on you and we haven't anything left to share, go inside and pick up things that are yours and sort out your exit, don't insist on me making you do so because you would not like that."

Henry uttered his Eyes closed and his fist tightened in Anger.

Maria looked at her darling for a moment,"What a black Friday",she cried and slowly walked upstairs to the bedroom.

Henry opened his eyes when he didn't hear her foot step on the stairs,he took a breath and sat on the couch waiting for Maria's departure.

Henry's POV

"my cousin is such a brave one to expose her secrets to me,she used to pretend loving me and needed me to marry her without knowing she was kept busy cheating me with her so called Doctor,I don't need her anymore in my life and I have moved on", Henry put his head in his hands as his brain spun around with thought.

He turned around fast to the staircase since he heard footsteps going down. Maria was already in changed attire, she rolled her big box down the stairs when she came down with a little hand bag slung over her shoulder.

Their eyes meet and Henry sees the drop of tears on her face,he ignores her at once, not giving it a second glance.

Maria came out from the living room without uttering a word to conserve energy. Henry got up, walking towards the door, he closed it and locked it in an instant walking towards the stairs and to the bedroom.

As he entered the bedroom, he noticed Maria's wrist watch which he had purchased for her on the bed, she had left it for him and departed from his mansion.

Henry took a deep breath going to the washroom to clean himself up and let go of the rage and anger.

Maria emerged from his mansion and stood on the road as her mind started going crazy thinking about where she would be going.

"To the hospital of course" she told herself and debated."What if my colleagues questioned me about returning with my traveling box? I don't have anything to tell them"Maria thought and cried as she was left alone on the street with her purse and her traveling box.

A vehicle drove on her side and halted,she wiped away her tears as fast as she could and breathed heavily inquiring who it was.
