Evelyn's Pov
"It is your turn now," the handler said. I was the only one remaining for the auction, and my encounter with Domenico couldn't seem to leave my head.
*****
"Son, you have to want her. You know what is at stake for you," Domenico said and looked at me.
"Spitfire, come here"
While I could feel the tension in the room, I could also feel his son's rigid demeanor.
I took a few steps forward and stopped beside his son. "I don't care, Dominenco. I won't accept anything from you," Hearing him speak to Domenico that way filled me with happiness.
He doesn't have a good relationship with his son. That should be a bad thing but it was a good thing for me to watch.
I finally got a good look at Domenico's son. He stood tall and imposing, exuding an aura of raw power and authority.
His chiseled features were striking- high cheekbones, a strong jawline, and piercing blue eyes that seemed to cut through the very soul of anyone who dared to meet his gaze.
His dark hair was perfectly styled without a hair out of place. His tuxedo hugged his body showing off the muscles of his broad shoulder and chest.
As his eyes landed on me, I felt a shiver run down my spine. There was a cold, calculated look in those eyes, mixed with a hint of something else- curiosity.
His lips pressed into a thin line, betraying no emotion, yet his very stillness was intimidating as if he was a predator assessing its prey, but there was something about him that made it hard to breathe.
Domenico's son turned back to his father. "You think parading another girl in front of me is going to change anything? I will not be a part of your sick games."
Domenico's eyes narrowed. "This isn't a game, Raffaele. It is survival. And you will do what is necessary."
"By what is necessary? You mean giving a girl to me?" He asked sarcastically.
"She has all the qualities to breed an heir for you."
Hearing Domenico made me look at him. So not only a sex toy but also a baby machine.
My hatred for him increased. And I was happy I wasn't the only one who hated him, his son also hates him.
"Don't call me, Dominenco," Raffaele said, walking towards the door.
"You accept my gift, or I marry your sister off," Domenico threatened, and Raffaele paused.
"Bastardo" he cursed in Italian before leaving the room in anger. It seems the old man knows how to get under his skin.
The guard that followed me came in and took me away from the office at Domenico's order.
*****
I was given a black mask to wear, unlike the other girls who went to the stage without it. I guess it is because I am Domenico's special one like Violet said.
The blinding lights prevented me from seeing the audience, but their noise indicated they were numerous.
The bid started when I heard a voice shout "One million," I scoffed at the lame bid. Is that how much I am worth? My dad sold me for Twenty million dollars as a child, and I am grown now; I am worth more.
Wondering how I knew? Some guards really have loose mouths, I heard some guards talking about it the night I was taken to the factory.
"Five million," another voice shouted.
"Ten million,"
"Twenty million,"
"Twenty-five million,"
The bidding continued to escalate, each new bid punctuating the air with a mix of excitement and tension. I could feel the intensity of the room rise with every shout.
The mask made me feel even more detached from the spectacle as if I were an object rather than a person.
Suddenly, a commanding voice cut through the noise, "One billion." The room fell silent. I felt a chill run down my spine. This was not just any bid; this was a statement of power and possession.
"One billion dollars, going once, going twice, sold!" the auctioneer declared. The finality of the hammer's fall echoed in my ears.
As I was led off the stage, my mind raced. That was Raffaele. I couldn't see him, but I recognized his silky Italian accent.
I thought he wasn't going to agree with his father. What changed?
"Come with me," a voice interrupted my thoughts, and I saw Raffaele in front of me.
He gripped my wrist tightly and dragged me along. What is it with the dragging?
"I can walk," I said, pulling my hand away. He looked at me, his expression unreadable.
"I know," he replied, leaving my hand and continuing to walk ahead of me.
I followed his lead, even though I wanted to make a run for it. Something was compelling about him. Maybe it was the hatred he had for his father or the commanding presence he carried.
I could use him to get to Dominenco. He wouldn't mind if I killed his father, right? That was what I was trained for to seduce, fight, kill, and destroy.
Domenico made me like this, and he should be the first to burn from my flame. But not too soon, I needed the right opportunity, and his son would help me get it.
I caught up to Raffaele inside his car. Wow, the vehicle was beautiful and classy. I hadn't seen any cars since I was little. Things had changed a lot.
It felt like I was from another world where civilization hadn't occurred.
"Will you get in, or should I leave you?" His voice snapped me back to reality, and I got into the passenger seat.
"Aren't you worried I would run?" I asked him.
"You can't run from me," he stated, starting the car.
What he didn't know was that I could run and hide well. I stared outside as he drove, pleased with what I saw.
He drove to the outskirts of the city, and a big metal gate opened, letting us in. The house was massive.
My family was wealthy, and we lived in a luxurious mansion, but it wasn't as big as this. This was three times bigger than my father's house.
I walked behind him into the house. For a mafia's house, it was quiet. Two men and a lady came out when we entered.
"Raff, we need you to check something," the guy with a glass of wine said while they all gazed at me.
"Take care of her," he told the lady and went off with the guys.
"Come with me," she said, and I followed her.
"This is where you will stay until Raffaele decides what to do with you." The room was big and clean, painted in white.
"Is there a room painted black?" I asked, eyeing the white walls.
"This is the room prepared for you," she said rudely and left me.
White was my best color, but there were a lot of events attached to this color. The clothes were getting on my nerves, so I went inside the bathroom to undress and bathe.
After spending some minutes in the bathroom, trying to figure out how to operate the things inside, I was finally done.
Walking out of the bathroom I saw Raffaele by my bedside, holding the jewelry I had removed. "What are you doing here?" I asked when I came out of the bathroom.
"I want to make an agreement with you," he said, standing straight and looking into my eyes, making my heart skip a beat.
