Chapter 4 FRANK'S POV

CHAPTER 4

FRANK'S POV

"You have to divorce her, Frank!" My mother's loud voice echoed through the corridors that lead to my room as soon as I returned from work.

"Fuck! This woman has started again!" I mumbled to myself and hesitantly opened the door to let her in.

"Frank, this will be the last time I'll tell you this. If that woman can't give you a child, then what's the point of keeping her in the house? To consume your hard-earned money for free?" She ranted.

My mother has always been on my neck for a grandchild since I married Claire.

Claire had embarked on a two day trip for official purposes, and coincidentally, my mother was invited to a ceremony by her friend as they handed over the leadership of their company to their son who recently got married, and in less than a year, his wife has welcomed a soul to the world.

But I love Claire so much to let her go just like that. After all, I'm the cause of her barrenness since I was the one who persuaded her to have an abortion in our final year of high school.

"There's only one option; let's relocate to New York City so that we can have our sanity." I suggested to Claire, and she succumbed without hesitation.

Even at that, my mother never ceased to call and ask after my relationship life. Hope you've divorced that man in a woman's form." She'll ask at any given opportunity for us to talk on the phone.

"I think... I've found a permanent solution to our problem, Frank." Claire suggested when she discovered that a colleague of hers at the office had just been abandoned by her boyfriend of six years, and as if that was not enough, she was still struggling with a sick mother at the hospital.

Claire maneuvered her way and she became close with Sophia before we opted for a separation to let Sophia in without any suspicion.

Immediately after my wedding with Sophia, Claire had to resign from work and travel out of the country to avoid any suspicions.

" I'm afraid of what might happen next if she doesn't get a kidney transplant." Claire's family doctor reported some weeks after her mother was diagnosed with kidney failure.

I was consumed by fury when Claire threatened to divorce me if I don't do anything about her mother's health.

No! I can't let our love to die just like that. The money was available, but I couldn't get any donor for the woman I love. Then, I thought about Sophia's dying mother, who has been sick for months.

"Babe, why don't we fly your mother out for better treatment? I can't see her getting any improvement in this hospital," I suggested to Sophia, and she fell on her knees to thank me, unbeknownst to her that I have my plans. Immediately we got to the specialist hospital in India, the doctor didn't waste time in plugging her kidney off to save Claire's mother's life, but the old woman who calls herself Sophia's mother had to be put on oxygen for a week so that her sudden death wouldn't be too questionable.

Unknown to Sophia, I had withdrawn all the funds in our joint account a long time before our divorce, so that I could build a company for Claire in her name.To top it all, she's still oblivious of the fact that the huge medical bill I claimed to have spent on her mother, causing the Williams company to go bankrupt, was all fake. It was just a way of cajoling her to sell off that diamond fortune her mother had left for her and give me the money to restore back my company.

"I hope the divorce papers are ready, Frank." Ensure you serve it to her today because I'm moving into that mansion before nightfall." That was the first thing that Claire told me when I went to pick her up at the airport.

After missing each other's physical presence for a while now, I suggested we lodge in a hotel to have some good time before we start living under the same roof as a couple again.

I left my phone with Claire to use the restroom, and within that short time, I never knew she had used it to text Sophia already.

As a successful businessman whose phone is always buzzing with calls and messages, I was astonished to see that all through the hours I spent with Claire at the hotel, not even a single call or message interrupted our peace, not until I checked and noticed that the phone was switched off.

I was angry the moment Sophia mentioned about the hotel; I knew it definitely had to be one of Claire's ways, but I can never let my anger be visible to Sophia anymore. After all, Claire is the woman my heart yearns for, and I don't care if putting a smile on her face would cost the whole world to be angry.

We were set to leave to the Philippines a day after Sophia left

the house.

"Ma'am, I'm afraid you'll have to step aside for a while. An exhibit was found in your bag." One of the security personnel at the airport whispered politely to Claire when our luggages was taken for checking.

"What? W–what do you mean by an exhibit?" Claire queried, utterly shocked just as I am.

"We found a lot of drugs in your items." The man reported.

I was speechless, and when she turned, we only exchanged glances. I can see how she was already trembling because of the deadly glare I shot at her.

"Honey, I swear I don't know what these people are saying! Believe me, I don't do drugs. ***" She began to explain with tears.

"Claire," I muttered her name, yet I don't even know what to say.

"Sir, please, can I see the particular bag that you found the drugs inside?" I asked the security personnel calmly, and he nodded.

"What?" I flinched when we discovered it was found in one of the packages that Claire's mother had waybilled to us. How could my mother-in-law do something as such to us? I wondered in my mind.

Soon, two men dressed in uniform were there with handcuffs to slide into Claire's hands.

I didn't know I was crying until I felt the cold drop of liquid on my leg; then I realized it was my tears.

I felt like the ground should open up and swallow me when I looked at the numerous clicking of cameras towards my wife and me. I couldn't move a step.

"Why is all this happening to me? It has been barely two days since I divorced Sophia, and now, this is happening.

I didn't plan for this. By now, we're supposed to be enjoying ourselves in a different land and not have one partner being kept behind bars.

Could it be that karma is catching up with me already?

"Nooooo!" I screamed like a mad person when a thought flashed through my head. The company! I have to do something to protect the Williams's corporation before this news reaches social media!

And for my mother-in-law, I'll make sure I spare her no mercy if this thing ever causes any damage to my reputation! Immediately I drove out of the airport, my phone began to ring. It was a call from my mother-in-law.

"Hmmmmmm!" I took a deep breath before hesitantly picking up the call.

"Frank, what is this thing that I'm watching in the news today? What evil did you plan against my daughter?" She asked, her voice consumed by anger and fury.

My stomach churned after I dropped the call. Is this woman kidding me or something?
