Velkan stormed out of Chanda's room into the hall way, leaving her on the floor, unconscious. He leaned against the closed door, clutching his arm to his chest, trying to calm himself.
"Mate." His wolf, Rex purred restlessly in his head, clearly eager to go back to Chanda. "She is our mate."
Velkan tugged on his hair strands in an attempt to silence the pleas of his raging wolf.
"I must be losing my mind, this can't be. How can she be our mate? Lycan Kings are cursed to not have a mate." Velkan insisted.
"I don't know, My Alpha. All I know is that she is our mate." Rex growled. "You almost killed our mate."
Velkan banged his head repeatedly against the door, groaning in pain. He stopped when he heard an 'ahem' sound beside him. Two guards stood at the end of the hall way, staring at his little display.
Frustrated that he had been seen in a weak state, he backed away from the door and strode to the guards. "Get the doctor and instruct him to tend to the Luna. Now!" He yelled when they both stood, looking at themselves.
Both guards hurried around the corner immediately which only angered Velkan more. He was too baffled from what happened with Chanda to deal with dumb guards now. "For the sake of the gods, come back."
They came back and stood before him, shaking. He smirked and thought, 'I might be losing my mind, but at least I'm still feared.'
"Only one of you should go. The other should stand at the Luna's door and don't let anyone in except the doctor. Understood?" He commanded.
"Yes Alpha." They replied.
He walked past them, down to the living room, aching for a glass of scotch to ease his anger.
"You can't just leave the poor girl in there, all alone?" Rex complained.
"When did you become sensitive about how I treat my subjects?" Velkan took out a full bottle of scotch from the living room's bar and downed almost half of it at once.
"She is our mate, not just any subject. I need to go to her." Rex cried.
"This has to be a joke. She doesn't even have a wolf. She is nothing but a mere servant." He growled and threw the bottle of scotch at a wall, shattering it and spilling its content all over the room.
"At this rate, we won't have any nice furniture left in this house, if you keep thrashing everything to express your anger." Leia, his mother walked in. "Why are you here, brooding? Aren't you supposed to be with your Luna? It's your wedding night. I had at least hoped to get little pups from this union."
Velkan stared at his mother, frustrated.
"What? Nothing to say now?" She settled on the arm of a chair. "You didn't seem to have a problem yelling a while ago."
The front door opened and an elderly man walked in. "My Alpha, My Queen. I was summoned."
"Go up to the Luna's Chamber. She is there." Velkan said to the man, pointing down the hall way.
"Excuse me." The man bowed and walked away.
"Why is the pack's doctor going to the Luna's chamber?" Leia said as she watched the doctor walk away. "Is there something wrong with Chanda?" Her eyes widened as she turned to Velkan. She put up her hands to cover her mouth in shock and whispered. "Did you kill that poor child?"
"Would I have called the doctor if she was dead?"
"Then why is he here?"
"She is not dead; doesn't mean I didn't make an attempt." Velkan answered coldly.
Leia gasped. "You evil spawn. You will leave that poor child alone." She warned him. "Chanda is going through a lot as it is. Focus your energy on finding out who is behind what happened, instead of tormenting her."
"You believe her claims of not knowing anything?"
"Yes, I do. You don't remember what happened either, do you? So why put the blame on her solely? If you would just reason for once, instead of reacting with anger always, you might find out what is really happening."
"You seem to have much support for someone you barely know, or am I wrong?" Livid, Velkan eyed his mother. "Tell me, mother, what is really happening? Is there something I should know?"
Tension filled the air as they stared at each other.
Leia snorted and got up, "If you think I have something to do with this, then you are dumb. What will I gain from making you marry a poor maid? Especially one you can easily maltreat."
"So, what now? I should welcome her with open hands and give you the little pups you want now, huh?" He mocked, doing his best to not yell at his mother.
"You are just as stubborn as your late father. Maybe if he had listened to me more, he won't be dead."
Velkan felt like he was going to explode. His parents' marriage had not been the best, but they had respected each other, up until his father's death. "Don't you dare mention..."
"Sorry to interrupt," They both turned to the doctor. "I have examined her, Alpha. The Luna is now stable and sleeping."
"Mate." Rex purred. Velkan ignored him.
The doctor walked into the room. "She just needs rest and quiet ... at least for now." He added staring at Velkan. "I would take my leave."
"You will leave Chanda alone." Leia warned, her fingers pressing into his chest. She walked out too, leaving him alone to his thoughts.
Velkan rubbed his hands on his temples. His head was pounding from Rex's continuous cries to go to Chanda, and this little exchange with his mother didn't help matters.
'There had to be a reason for this situation,' he thought. 'How can he have a mate? Is this because he was not born in line for the Lycan King's throne? Or maybe the moon goddess didn't accept him as the new Lycan, so she gave him a mate to show her disapproval? Or his wolf, Rex is just playing some mind games with him.'
"As much as I love to joke around," Rex whined in his head. "I'm not joking now, Alpha. She may not have a wolf, but her spirit calls to me, I can feel it. She is ours."
"Or maybe you are just horny?" Velkan frowned. Even that felt like an insult to him. Imagine craving and being in heat for a lowly omega.
"My Alpha, I have been looking for you," Snow, the head Gamma of the pack marched in. "but I was informed you were busy with your luna." He bowed to Velkan. "I wanted to inform you of a formal request from some Alphas in the north region."
"How does it feel to have a mate?" Velkan blurted out, without looking at Snow.
"What?" Snow was confused. "A mate? You are the Lycan, you can't have a mate."
"I can't, but you can, right? How does the mate bond feel?"
"I wouldn't know." Snow replied slowly, his voice blank. "I have not met my mate, nor do I care for one."
"Of course, forget I said anything." Velkan felt stupid.
Snow had not earned his position as the main warrior in the pack by being emotional.
'Damn you, Chanda,' he thought. He would just have to deal with her later. His duty as Lycan king came first.
