Scarlett
"Thank you again for letting me stay with you. I really appreciate it." I said as I trailed the man up the stairs. I didn't still know his name, and honestly, I wasn't sure he wanted me to know.
I didn't let myself worry too much about it though. Nothing was going to happen between us. Absolutely nothing.
"No problem at all." He shrugged. He had insisted on carrying my duffel along with his, so he had to switch everything to one hand to unlock the door.
Finally, he pushed the door open and stepped in.
"Damn," I heard him mutter under his breath.
Confused, I stepped in behind him and came to a halt. The room was neatly decorated and looked cozy. But that wasn't the problem. The problem was the tiny bed situated at the center of it.
The bed looked like it wouldn't even fit the gigantic man properly talk more of the two of us.
"Where's the rest of the bed? Tell me this is a prank or something," hysterical laughter bubbled up inside me.
"It'd better be."
"There's no way we're going to both fit." It was as if the universe was making a joke on my behalf. A very unfunny joke. "Maybe I can sleep on the floor or_"
"No way." He insisted, "You'll catch a cold and die. I'm not letting you sleep on the floor. Look, why don't you go take that hot shower and freshen up while I call downstairs and try to fix this."
"Okay," I nodded. Grabbing my bag, I hurried into the bathroom.
Just then, my phone started to buzz, and i pulled it out of my jacket with one hand while shrugging off my wet clothes. "Hello?"
"Scarlett, are you alright?" Jen asked, "Did you get a place to stay for the night?"
"Ugh, it's complicated," I sighed.
"More complicated than your ex being into kinky shit?" She giggled.
One corner of my mouth quirked up in a smile, "Shut up." I said playfully, "I just met the most gorgeous man on the planet."
"Oh my God! Tell me everything. And tell me you made a move." She squealed.
"He made a move," I whispered, turning on the shower, "He came up to me and we started flirting and then my card got declined and he was going to pay for my room."
"But? Please tell me you declined and the both of you ended up having hot, steamy sex in his bed."
My mind went to the tiny bed out in the room and I snorted. "I wish. Turns out that there's no spare room in the motel. I'm in his bathroom right now, but only because he so kindly offered me a side of his bed. A bed, that can only fit the both of us if we sandwich."
"Oh my freaking God! You lucky bitch." She sighed dreamily, "Why does stuff like that never happen to me? Ughhh."
I laughed, "I have no_" I trailed off as something crawled over my feet. I stopped breathing, my eyes moving down slowly, slowly and finally they took in the beast staring up at me from the floor.
"Ahhhhh!" I let out a blood curdling cry, phone slipping from my hand and falling to the floor. "Somebody help! Help me!" I cried, jumping away from the demon with the glowy eyes.
Suddenly, the bathroom door flew open and the blue eyed man came charging in, looking even larger and more intimidating, "What's going on?"
"There's a demon in the bathroom!" I pointed at where the thing sat, unfazed by my terror.
The man blinked at me, then down at the beast, then shook his head, "You mean, the cat?"
My jaw dropped open, "That thing is not a cat." I was a dog person, but I knew what cats looked like. They had hair, whiskers and pointy ears. The thing in the bathroom was hairless, ugly and weird.
The large man bent and picked it up and to my surprise, the beast curled up in his arms and let out a soft moew.
"It's just a cat, sweetheart," he stared at me with amusement.
Heat rose up my face at the realization that I'd just gone crazy over a little cat. And then another realisation hit. That I was stark naked in front of him.
His eyes dropped down, taking me in leisurely. Everywhere his gaze touched felt like I was burning. Goosebumps prickled over my skin and I shivered. My senses came rushing back when he took a step forward.
I grabbed a towel off the rack, "Get out! Get the fuck out!"
He raised one hand in surrender, the other holding the cat and slipped out of the bathroom. I turned to the mirror wide eyed, complexion flushed.
"What the fuck." I whispered under my breath, wondering how I was going to go out there and face him. I just wanted to crawl into the bathtub and live there in shame.
