Chapter 4 Four

Wilona's PoV

What should I do now?

I stood in the middle of the room, like an idiot. This was the room I had shared with Sonny since we first got married.

In this house, this room is my favorite place. Not only is it the place where Sonny and I make love, but it is also the place where Maya and I spend time together, because she prefers to sleep with me, before Sonny or I move her to her own room.

However, this time when I stepped through the doorway, the thought of what Sonny and Elsa were doing on my bed made me have to throw up.

The nausea was even worse than when I was pregnant with Maya. I immediately ran to the bathroom and poured my stomach contents into the toilet.

I had to be here, even though I didn't want to. There were a lot of my valuables in this room and I didn't want to see Sonny again after this, so after taking care of everything with my lawyer, I came straight here to pack my things.

Sonny maybe was still in the hospital, waiting for his mother. I had asked one of my lawyers to keep him in his office while the divorce documents were being signed, so that I would have a little more freedom here.

I decided to bring only my personal belongings, especially all my personal documents and things that I really bought with my own money.

More important than that was all of Maya's belongings. Leave behind anything that Tommy bought or we bought together. I didn't want to bring them.

I broke all the frames and burned all the photos that had Sonny in them and only brought all my photos and Maya's photos.

After all my things were packed into several suitcases, I called a moving service. They helped me carry everything and take it to the new apartment that I rented through my lawyer.

I stood in the middle of the living room, looking around me. I didn't want that bitch Elsa owned all of this, most of which I also bought with my money.

Madness filled my heart and without wasting time, I went to the kitchen. My supply of eggs, milk, chocolate, flour, sugar, and syrup was still abundant because before the incident, I had just restocked.

I took a large bucket and mixed all the ingredients in the kitchen, even all the cleaning materials from the bathroom and laundry room and made a thick, fishy-smelling, foamy, strangely colored concoction that made my eyes sting a bit.

I smiled at my creation and with a feeling of satisfaction, I saw all the leather and cloth items get dirty and some even burn because of the caustic soda in the concoction, when I poured it on all the furniture from the bedroom to the living room, Tommy's study to the kitchen and dining room.

I also opened all the water taps and broke all the lights.

I smashed the broken crockery, wooden and glass furniture with a baseball bat that I always kept near the kitchen for safety.

I thought, I should have hit Sonny and Elsa's heads with this stick.

I left the chaotic and messy house with a little relief.

"Gosh! Gosh! Gosh!"

Melly paced back and forth in the living room that doubled as the center room, in the narrow studio apartment that I had just occupied.

The apartment has only one bedroom, a living room, and a small kitchen with two dining chairs at a counter that doubles as a dining table and a worktop.

"Mel, sit down," I said, massaging my forehead. "You're making me dizzy, moving back and forth like a chess piece."

Melly sat beside me and stared at me sharply. Every now and then she shook her head.

"I still can't believe what you've experienced," Melly finally muttered, after shaking her head several times. She leaned back against the back of the sofa. "And that jerk killed my niece! What a heartless devil!"

I didn't say anything, just stared blankly at the low ceiling of the apartment.

Melly touched my arm. "Wilona, come with me. Let's leave this place and start a new page. There's no one here for you anymore and you have to move on with your life. Come with me, okay?"

I was surprised to hear Melly's words. Moving somewhere else, that had never crossed my mind.

"Think about it," Kelly said softly. "England will give you a fresh new start."

I looked at my best friend with burning eyes. "My company has a branch that has only been running for three months in Manchester."

"Good! Talk to your boss and prepare yourself to build a new life there," said Melly enthusiastically. "Even if you have to quit your job, my company will be happy to accept an employee as great as you."

Melly's words were what made me sit with both hands resting on my lap, in front of Mr. Aaron Jerome, today.

"I'll let you take a week off, Wilona," Mr. Jerome's words sounded full of worry. "After what you've been through, I think I'll even give you two weeks, if you want."

Mr. Aaron Jerome was a stern man, but I had always earned his respect with my achievements and accomplishments so far.

"Mr. Jerome, can I apply for a transfer from here, in the near future?" I asked carefully. "I need to get out of here as soon as possible. I think the branch office in England still needs staff, right?"

"Transfer?" he repeated, furrowing his brows. "Wilona, you know how much we rely on you here. You also just got a promotion. Moving to another branch means you might have to start from scratch, with the adaptation process and so on."

"I know, sir. But... I need to leave. I can't stay in the same city where I've lost everything," I said, my voice steadier than I expected.

Mr Jerome sighs, rubbing his temples. "Wilona, you're one of the best employees I have. Transferring you would be a loss for our headquarters."

I held his gaze, determined. "I understand, but I need this. You know what I've been through lately has been really painful. I have to get out of here. Please, Sir?"

"Will you resign if I refuse your request?" Mr. Jerome's eyebrows raised anxiously.

I didn't answer, just nodded my head and Mr. Jerome's expression became even more gloomy. I was sure he knew that I was determined.

Silence stretched between us, before he finally exhaled in defeat. "Fine. I'll approve the transfer. But if you ever change your mind and want to come back here, my door is always open."

"Thank you, sir."

"Ah, the Manchester branch is indeed in need of a lot of staff," he smiled softly. "But I won't let my best staff start from the bottom. You will lead the branch and I hope to hear great progress after you are there. Are you up to it?"

I smiled. I think it was the biggest smile I've shown in a while.

"Of course, sir. I won't let you down."

Mr. Jerome gave me a thumbs up. "I have full confidence in you!"

With that, it was decided.

The day of my departure arrived faster than expected. Standing at the airport gate, I took one last look at the city that had given her so much, love, happiness, and in the end, unbearable sorrow.

The sound of the loudspeaker, calling the passengers who were about to board the plane, woke me up from my reverie.

Before returning to her place, Melly assured me that everything would be fine and that I would soon be able to recover in a new place.

But deep inside, I knew this was only the beginning. One day, I would return. Not as the woman Sonny had betrayed, not as the mother who had lost my lovely daughter because of him, but as someone stronger. I will make him pay for all he has done.

With that promise in my heart, I boarded the plane, leaving my past behind. But my vengeance will still remain.
