Chapter 5 Ghost House

Renee's POV

Mom just finished cooking. She removed the apron gently, dropped it and hung it. Cam asked, "What did she say? Anything bad?" Anna waited for mom to go out of sight and mind before answering.

Anna replied, "No just a sad look with bloodshot eyes."

How is she even keeping herself still with all this? She stared at dad for a long time. She watched his very move, from his lips movement to his breathing. She was obsessed."

"Anna, did she go near Cam? Did any go near Cam?" I asked.

"Not at all, not one." She said.

"How many did you see?" I asked.

She replied, "More than fifteen." Shut up! More than what?!

"Did they hold weapons?" I asked again.

"No, but they had bloodstains. Lots of it. Some had their eyes stabbed, some didn't have lips. Others just chest stabs and herself just a slash on the chest."

Cam nodded, "Renee? What do you think about this?"

"Believe me, we need this information."

Cam asked, "Why not me?"

"Is that a real question or a joke? Be happy they don't see you at all."

"No you don't get my question, why not me? What's all on me, how come they see me even when I spoke before you did?"

"Lucky day I guess." Anna said.

"You don't get it, do you? I mean me? What's on me, Anna? Do you see anything in me?" Cam asked.

"No just your usual self."

So I'm just here staring at a twenty-year-old talking to a thirteen-year-old. Silly seventeen-year-old me. Funny enough Cam looks like he's twenty-five or more.

Thankfully mom showed up with the food, dad sat by the edge. Mom ran back to the kitchen to get some more. Cam just reminded us of our experience. "Why no lips?"

"Why do you ask?"

"Remember the old man didn't ask us or tell us about him being a cannibal, did he?" It's true he didn't.

"Okay and?"

"So why that?" Mom showed up again and sat closer to us even more than dad did. I feel like she knows something, but what? Dad didn't hear us from his corner, after all, he was too hungry too. We eat silently ignoring all we felt.

Soon enough the wind blows again, Anna turns to it. She bends closer to us so our parents won't hear her. "She said they're not coming tonight, only tomorrow." I just hate this, why not go forever?

Cam replied, "Tell her I said thank you."

Anna said, ''Thank you!''

Mom and dad turn to her while the mystery ghost lady disappears. Dad asked, "For what exactly?"

The three of us just stare at each other rather than at Anna. She replied, "Well for the food, for both of you buying and also cooking it. Is it wrong to appreciate my parents?"

Mom smiled saying, "Not at all you're welcome sweetie, at least your siblings might learn from that."

Dad muttered through his food, "Well done Anna."

What?!

They're so blind to everything.

HOW. IS. THIS. POSSIBLE???!!!

Everyone just finished the food, dad walked out first leaving the dishes as usual and I asked mom why every time. She gives me this reply about the man being the head and the woman the neck. Duties upon duties.

Well, surprisingly it's Cam's turn to wash the dishes. Anna leaves us to her room, she's so confident. I stay by Cam. I'm not in for any windy surprises at all. "So tomorrow we'll see Morgan right?"

"Of course after your day at school. I'll take you and Anna there." He said.

"Nice."

"So any new friends at school?" He asked.

"Nope, why?"

"Just curious, no new boy getting your attention?" He's really curious. That's unusual.

"No, none at all. Just me, no females too."

"You should make some new friends, you never know when you need them." He advised.

Taking a good look at the person talking? He's got no friends. Not even one he calls a best friend or laddie.

"You should do that for yourself, Cam, maybe you'll get married trying. I mean with all that tallness and black hair, I expect an in-law next year."

"What happened to this year? Ghosts?" Oh snap, he just reminded me and he knew it.

"You know what, since you're so confident. I don't mind sleeping with you tonight?" His eyes widened, he took a pause just to stare at me for my words.

He's thinking she wants to have some hot sex with him. "Shut up." He smiled then suddenly he laughed.

"Not bad at all Anna, not bad at all. I don't mind sleeping next to you too, after all, you always get cold when it's past midnight." I said.

I feel so awkward talking about this, "Whatever," eye-rolling.

"Maybe you should make friends with the pieces of stuff around the house."

"Eww, also keep your voice down. Dad's been acting all cool all night? Suspect?" He's done with the dishes.

He took a towel to clean his hands, "You know that's a nice way to change the topic, well I don't care about him saying a thing but then why not me?"

"You know in some books, I read about paranormal stuff and I saw something."

"Like?"

"Come with me, I'll show you."

"Of course honey I will." I need him to take a break from all this.

"Cam, focus. I heard about ghosts abiding close to someone close to dying. That's why I'm bothered, don't you think?"

His smiling face turns gloomy slowly. "True and? Also, they only show when they know it'll happen soon."

"Exactly." I said.

"But why not me? That's odd."

"Yes and they were more at dad's side, that gives us a head start at least."

"He's dying first before us? Hold up Renee, we need answers." He said.

"What other evidence do you need?"

"More."

I exhale, and he just stared at my shirt. "Renee, all this. This illusion and moment we don't need but why is this happening to our family."
