Chapter 3 Fire on the mountain

My right hand on Hermione's back healed every inch of pain on her body including the deep wound on her shoulder because of the mate bond.

I felt weak but the doctor and my beta, Jason, arrived just on time.

"Alpha, are you okay?" Jason asked, as he helped me sit on the cushion chair in my room.

"Gently lay him so that I can check," Doctor said as he brought out his stethoscope.

Hermione couldn't say a word, each time she opened her mouth, it closed.

She looked confused and I felt like kissing those plump lips without any explanations.

I knew she was my mate from the moment I saw her lying helplessly in the rogue's territory. It was her scent that brought me to her while I was on patrol with my beta.

The doctor looked at her wounds quickly.

"I'll get some water," Hermione said and left the room.

"Alpha, tell us what happened?" Jason asked me again.

"Your Alpha has found his fated mate, the wounds on the lady's body are all gone". The doctor said with a smile.

"Oh! She felt the mate bond late?" Jason asked.

"Probably because of her health. Doctor, how is she?" I asked, avoiding the mate topic.

"Healing her drained you a lot, you'll just need bedrest". Doctor said.

"Jason, find Hermione, it's been a while she stepped out. She doesn't know anywhere" I ordered.

"Someone is already in love" Jason said, patting my shoulder but I gave him a death stare then he retracted his hands in surrender.

He was just trying to get on my nerves, I ignored him then he continued "Can't let her out of your sight for a second now L2?" and He laughed mockingly.

Double L or L2 was a nickname Jason gave me years ago signifying Lycan Luke.

I picked up a book by my bedside and threw it to him but he dodged luckily and chuckled as he ran out to find Hermione.

Jason was my best friend and beta, he can be annoying but I think I even annoy him more.

The doctor already left but came back almost immediately "There was presence of wolf suppressant and sexual stimulants in Hermione's blood and you are not going to believe the last part" Doctor said trying to keep his emotions neutral.

Expecting the worst, I suddenly got up from my seat, with my forehead that crimsoned in curiosity.

"Her blood has traces of the white wolf which is very rare, she might be the last True healer," the doctor said.

"It's best if this information is kept confidential until we are certain," I said, calming my nerves, and the doctor left with his briefcase.

I guess there's a lot about my mate that I don't know.

Shortly, Jason returned with Hermione and left us to be alone. I couldn't help but stare at her.

Her wavy brown hair dropped on her shoulders, complimenting her cheek bone.

"Did you get lost?" I broke the awkward silence.

"Not really, you have a beautiful mansion," Hermione said, spinning around like a child in her Cinderella dress, looking cute.

"I would have died if I needed the water you went to get," I said and we both laughed.

"How are you feeling? I'm sorry I put you in this state" Hermione said.

"I'll be fine Hermione, I'm a Lycan warrior," I said, not wanting to dent my pride.

"I wish I could be one," Hermione said.

"Check my wardrobe, I asked the nanny to get you something nice to wear," I said and Hermione seemed surprised.

"Thank you," she left for the wardrobe

I was staring at her as she struggled with the zipper. I walked to her and said "allow me" in a very low manly tone. I didn't know I had that calm and sweet part in me. I moved her long lustrous hair to one side and zipped the sun dress which suited her perfectly.

Being so close to her made my wolf want to howl loudly.

"Mate, I want mate!" My wolf said in my head.

"We will go on a walk," I said as I broke the silence, also keeping my wolf in check.

"So, you stay alone in this big mansion" Hermione asked as we walked through the poolside.

"My mum is on a trip with her friends, she'll be back this week," I said.

"Well, if you don't mind my many questions?" Hermione raised her shoulder waiting for my answer before bringing it down.

"Yeah, as long as you don't ask for my favorite color and food," I said, enjoying her goofy faces and we both laughed.

"What's your favorite color?" She blurted out intentionally and we laughed harder. I stopped walking and I held Hermione's hands and looked at her eyes.

"It's blue, like the one in your eyes," I said softly and it seemed I gave her chills. I gestured for her to sit on the grass with me and she did.

Hermione cleared her throat, interrupting the awkward moment.

"How did you find me?" Hermione asked.

"I was on a patrol in the woods, the rogue area. You were lying unconscious so my beta and I brought you here to get better" I said and noticed a slight downcast in her mood.

"It's okay if you don't want to talk about how you ended up in the woods, Herms," I said, caressing her fingers as I wondered where I got the Herms nickname from. I know she was put through a lot earlier if not why would a damsel like her be half dead in the woods?!

"Well here goes nothing!" She started and I was staring at her lips throughout.

"My dad died suddenly and I am the only child of my parents. I knew I wasn't strong enough so I gave my Alpha position to my ex mate, but he took it and rejected me then got married to the strongest girl in the pack then sold me to the Rogue King who tried to rape me and kill me but I managed to run into the woods". Hermione said, tears were covering her vision.

"You are safe now, I'll cut the hands of anyone that tries to touch you," I said and touched her soft face to wipe the tears that escaped her eyes.

"I want to become stronger, and learn how to use my wolf to defend myself because one day, I'm going back to save my pack from those evildoers," Hermione said.

"And please, can you not tell anyone of our mate bond, I'm not worthy to be your mate or fit to be a Luna"

"Will you train me? You said you were a warrior" Hermione said.

"The finest you can find" I said, showing off a bit then I mindlinked Jason, to tell the ladies to prepare a room for her.

"Don't talk down on yourself Hermione. I will make time to train you but for now, the Beta Female can train you" I said holding her hands. She nodded with a smile and I smiled back.

"Some subjects from the council are here to see you" Jason said as he found Hermione and I staring at each other, we quickly got up from the grass.

"I'll be with them soon," I said.

"Good day Alpha" the lady that Jason came with greeted me and I waved.

"Take Ms Hermione to meet the ladies in the female pack house" I said.

"Please ensure she is comfortable, she is a guest" Jason informed her.

The subjects that came to see me informed me about the death of an Alpha and his daughter.

There was a newsletter with a catchy topic "Alpha of Whiteclaw Pack and his daughter died in the same month as a Rogue becomes a legitimate Alpha in the Whiteclaw pack with a chosen Luna"

"Do you approve of this? As the King of Alphas" Jason mindlinked me

"Find out as much as you can but for now I will approve, We can not show them that we are suspicious" I mindlinked Jason. I signed and the subjects left.

Jason and I were left alone as I thought deeply although I could only hear the clattering sound of papers Jason arranged.

After a few hours, a guard came in with so much speed and immediately bowed to his Alpha "King Luke, there is fire at the female pack house!"
