Chapter 3 The offer

The next day Dominic is on one of his mom's private jets and on his way to New York. His flight is 5 hours tops, so he basically just ate and slept through the flight. Dominic is 28 years old and the only son of California state governor, Governor Jennifer Flores. His father divorced his mother when he was 8 and he watched them go through a messy breakup, which shaped his mentality that love is just an illusion. So he's a certified playboy.

At just 28 he helps his mother the governor manage their businesses all over America as his mother is too engulfed in the politics of their state and country to properly handle her businesses. They own shares in major/top companies all over America. They also own one one the biggest and most popular water and soft drink production factories in the whole of America. His mother is famous for being the only divorced governor in America which was her strongest winning point against her opponent because many single mothers voted for her to win. Dominic was single-handedly raised by his mother, his absentee father never gave them as much as child support, he grew up despising his father. After ten years of being abandoned by his father, 18-year-old Dominic started tracking his father, much to his mother's dismay. He found out the useless mother fucker had already started a new family, and had two daughters, apparently, he's the best father in the world to them. He was pissed but he couldn't complain, his mother did everything to provide him with a comfortable life and he couldn't ask for anything else. He loves his mother dearly and never wants to disappoint her. When Dominic isn't out partying and living the dream life, he's working tirelessly. Or he's out socializing with the world's most influential people and being the perfect and media-worthy governor's son posing and smiling for pictures like a celebrity. The next night after Kari's encounter with Dominic she's in her office at the nightclub, going through the club's accounts and handling other official businesses that need to be settled before the club opens up for the night. She's disrupted from her work when her office phone rings. Kari picks up the phone as Zoey the club's cashier/club attendant informs her of a man who wants to see her. Kari checks the mini clock on her desk which reads 8:43 pm and thinks for a second if she has any appointments scheduled for the night but comes up with nothing. "Who did he say he is again?" Kari asks Zoey. "He said his name is Dominic Flores and he's here as a prospective investor." Zoey answers. "Okay Zoey, please let him know I'll be with him shortly." Kari says and disconnects the call. Kari sits still for a while pondering what it is this Dominic guy wants. She felt this weird vibe from him the previous night and now he's back again claiming to be a 'prospective investor'. Kari is really confused about what to do and she doesn't want to involve Regina Hernandez her boss and owner of this nightclub in this. She just needs to tread carefully and think fast. She begins to think about what Gina would do in this situation. She has always looked up to Gina and always wanted to emulate her. Ever since Gina employed her three years ago when every other company she had applied to rejected her because she's plus-sized, she had always aspired to be like Gina. Gina is also a plus-sized woman who suffered body shaming from a lot of people just like her despite that she is kind, jovial, pure, and just an angel in human form, but she's also confident, hardworking, principled, and a spitfire, and that's exactly how Kari wants to be. Kari wasn't always plus-sized but she found out she had PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) when she was 17, it is a hormonal condition that causes hormonal imbalances, irregular periods, excess androgen levels, and cysts in the ovaries, and one of the symptoms of PCOS is weight gain. So that's when she started gaining weight, Gina encouraged her to start working out and improve on her dressing, although she has started going to the gym frequently and feels much better about herself after losing most of her unnecessary fat, she still finds it hard to dress better. She suffers from low self-esteem and is more comfortable in her maxi dresses and skirts. Kari enjoys working at the nightclub, where nobody will point out her weight issues, and because of the way she dresses no one really pays her any mind, and she likes it that way. Kari is just an ordinary lady, who has never had a boyfriend before because she grew up nerdy and socially awkward. She is the first child of her parents and she's mixed race, her mother's Arabian and her father's American. They both named her Karina Yara Hart, but sadly her mother passed away when she was 12 from cancer. So she and her siblings were raised by her father Luke Hart. Karina finally braces herself up and goes to meet Dominic to find out what he wants. When she gets to the waiting area of the club, she's mesmerized again by how drop-dead handsome Dominic is. The dimly lit club light illuminating his skin and highlighting his already perfectly sculpted features. Kari doesn't know exactly why she finds him this attractive. As she gets closer to him, his eyes finally land on her. She has to mentally stop herself from melting under this man's gaze which is trailing her from her face to her feet. And why the fuck is he looking at her like that? "Good evening Mr Dominic, I heard you're looking for me." She says, now standing in front of him, and holding out her hand for a handshake.
