The next day, Ellen woke up quite earlier. She wanted to make breakfast personally for him today, even though there were about two chefs in the mansion.
She was supposed to travel this morning to Italy for the beginning of her Masters degree program, but for some untold reasons, Maurice shifted it to weekend. Yet, she didn't argue with him about that.
Having slept naked, she pulled out duvet to pick up her nightie that was lying on the floor.
As she stood up to leave, her husband's deep sleepy voice halted her.
"Good morning wify" , stretching out his long arms for her to get close to his side of the bed.
"Morning, darling. You aren't supposed to be awake now, was about to serve my husband breakfast in bed " she was now in his arms, in an embrace.
"Uhmm...a nice start for a new round this morning, huh?" he winked at her, tickling the both sides of her body while Ellen let out a hearty laughter. She understood what he meant, but she just didn't have the strength for such that morning.
One of the few things she learnt throughout her ten months of marriage to Maurice was , that men who were virgins or probably celibate for a long time, seemed to develop a high libido when they find their true lover.
She was Maurice's first and ever since their wedding night till date, he never ceased to amaze her with the way he asked for sex .
However, one certain thing during their sex was the fact that he never ejaculated . Probably the reason why she wasn't pregnant yet, not even like she was ready to.
"I don't want you to leave my sight yet, my love. Besides, I don't know why this nightie is on your body. You should pull it off, baby " he smiled mischievously, trailing his hand under her night gown.
"Maybe tonight again. I'm exhausted, darling and I need to go to work " she replied calmly, so it wouldn't seem like she was rejecting her husband.
As Maurice was about to make another move, a knock was heard at the bedroom door.
"Anne, is that you?" Ellen asked, still sitting on the bed.
Anne was the head chef and perhaps, she might have come to alert them of breakfast.
"Yes ma'am. Sir, Ma, Madame Harrison is here and she requests your presence ".
Ellen's mood fell immediately. She has always noticed the cold shoulder that her mother in-law had been giving to her ever since she got married to Maurice. The woman didn't act like she hated her, still, she wasn't so nice and lovely to her. Sadly, her husband never noticed all these, he didn't see it as a worrying issue.
"Tell her I'll be down shortly". Maurice said and stood up from the bed to go take a shower . The reason why his mother would come as early as this time, could be very important.
Ellen took the opportunity to at least go down and meet her mother in law.
"Are you just waking up, young lady?" Madame Harrison quizzed, a frown on her face as she stared at Ellen from head to toe.
"No momma. I've been awake with my husband for a while now " Ellen responded, trying so hard not to stutter. If there was one feature she didn't like in Madame Harrison, it would be her intimidating and condescending tone of either talking or asking her questions.
"I see. I actually have a question for you, one of the important reasons I came this morning ". She paused and looked into Ellen's eyes as if searching for some uneasiness, but she was calm. Ellen sat on the sofa opposite her, waiting for the question.
"Why must it be Italy? Isn't there any other country in your mind or...is there any special reason why you want to travel to Italy for your Masters degree?"
This question came with an agenda and hidden purpose lying beneath it. Ellen could sense it as her mind wandered far and near to think of why she would act if there was a "special reason ".
"Well, ma, there's no specific reason. I made my research while still in school and Italy is the best place to study Finance and Trading management as a Masters degree course. I'm working in a Trading company and i equally need a promotion. So, I have to get my Masters in the best place and make a good result....." Ellen expressed, but was interrupted by Madame Harrison whose countenance showed nothing but impatience and disgust.
"Not like you would have even registered for a Masters program if not for my son " she made sure this statement was loud enough for even the servants to hear.
"I doubt there's no special reason, Ellen. But, that's by the way. I'll need to speak with my son once he comes down and...oh, here he is " she beamed with smiles as the elevator door opened, and Maurice walked into the Living area looking so glamorous .
Maurice and his mother exchanged mother and son pleasantries immediately he sat with her on the chaise longue. As soon as Ellen made to leave, Madame Harrison stopped her abruptly by making coughs .
Then, she added;
"Ellen can't stay in Italy for a whole year, Maurice. I've heard of a program in Italy where students can register for just five months and they will be done in every course ".
Maurice immediately agreed to that, at least, for the fact that his sweet wife wouldn't stay for long in Italy.
Unknown to Maurice and Ellen, Madame Harrison was organizing a very dangerous game from that moment.
By weekend, Ellen re-registered and it was for the five months old program, after which she traveled that same week.
The first person Ellen set her eyes on immediately she settled in Italy was Lorenzo, her ex. Lorenzo was Italian and their separation was due to his relocation back to his town, without prior notice to Ellen .
Seeing him now, Ellen only felt genuine happiness for him, seeing his achievements as a top tier Italian actor and celebrity. He had grown so much within the space of a year and ten months, physically and financially.
"I'm really happy to see you again, Amore mio. What are you doing here? Of all places, I never expected to ever set eyes on you in my territory " he spoke so excitedly, although remorse was within his voice.
However, his mood fell when Ellen responded;
"I'm here for my Masters program. I'm gonna be staying for just five months, I mean, my husband doesn't want me to stay long here "
"Husband, you say? Amore, you're married now?" He couldn't believe it, not now that he was planning on reconciling and being with her forever.
Ellen, on her part, tried so hard to pull down the old feelings and memories coming up at that moment. That name "Amore" meant "Love" in Italy. She was surprised he hadn't stopped calling her that yet.
"Yes, Lorenzo. I've been married for ten months and still counting, a year after you left me " .
Regret were written all over Lorenzo's face. She seemed so in love with this man now.
Still, he wouldn't let her go. At least, he wanted peace between them and wanted to now become good friends with her. Ellen took the idea peacefully, being a lady with a large heart.
Unknown to her, that singular act of reconciliation would mess her life up after some time.
