CELESTE POV
It was another Monday morning.
I opened my eyes in my exquisite bedroom. There was a lot to do before this new week ran out, although I was willing to take it slowly.
Just as my revenge on Damien would be slow.
So far, many others reached out when the press members finished with their questions. There were about five other people who asked for my contact while some asked to give me theirs.
I reached the door of my closet and snatched a towel. My legs reached the door of my bathroom, while I spent almost an hour in the tub, getting ready for my day, the week in total.
When I was out, I spent the next hour arranging my bedroom, although many thoughts distracted me, I was sure to not stop until my last task.
My daughter needed to get registered.
She had school to attend and I had yet to do that.
It could wait, anyway.
There was no need to rush even though at the same time, time wasn't on our side. Our new home needed as many items and arrangements as possible, after which I would enroll Sophia.
I walked down the stairs with a smile.
It was good to be home, back in the city where I was raised. A city where most of the people related to me stayed in.
As I stepped into the kitchen, my phone beeped. Looking at the device in my hand, there was a call from Lucy, my assistant and helping hand in my revenge mission. Without thinking twice, I picked up and asked. "Isn't it too early to reach me?"
"It's never too early as long as it's past eight in the morning, Celeste. You said it yourself that we don't have time. I could call back later if you-"
"No, Lucy, talk to me."
"Thank you-" She greeted and continued. "Many things have been fixed in the company although not all have been put in place. But you must understand that business can kick off if we have anyone who has reached out for partnership."
"I have a few people."
"Great, what do you think?"
"The ones who reached out have been told to give us a month to finish off the settings. I plan to reach out to those who gave me their contacts, make them understand we have some more things to finish off before business can start."
"Celeste?"
"Yes, Lucy?"
"What if they think we're wasting their time? What if these people don't have the patience?"
"Then they can leave." I snapped.
"We're coming with a lot of goodies for these people and they don't know. Only the lucky ones can see it. The Clintons and I have spoken and they're willing to wait. Apparently, they no longer work with Damien. Do you see how good it is?"
"Congratulations, Celeste."
"Thank you, Lucy-" I got off the large table and reached a cupboard. Sophia was going to make it out of her room anytime soon and she needed to eat as soon as she made it out.
"Do you have any update for me, Lucy?"
"Do you mean in regards to Mr. Damien?"
"Yes. Him. What do you have for me?"
"There's nothing for now, Celeste. Toby is yet to be done with his hacking tasks. I'm sure he'll have something for us as soon as he's done."
That was a relief-having only two trusted people who would work for me during this journey and mission to take over what has always been mine. A maid was another thing I would need, but not until everything had been arranged.
"Let me know when Toby reaches out to you. You know we don't have enough time to play around. I'm glad we've reached a milestone already. Have a nice day, Lucy, and reach out to me if you must."
The call ended soon.
Sophia was still in her room, it was more than enough time to finish up the cooking I started while I contemplated on getting a maid now before everything would be arranged, or later when everything was in good arrangement.
Moments later, I sat at the diner with my tray of food facing me. On the screen of my phone was the interview between myself and the press.
Once again, I had a proud smile on my face.
It was beautiful, everything that had happened since I got back to the country. Sophia, who had just walked out of her room didn't have the slightest idea what was going on. How could she? She was only four and didn't know anything.
"Good morning, mommy."
Placing the phone back on the diner, I looked up. "Good morning, my child. How was your night?" My gaze scanned Sophia as she took a seat. "Mommy slept well last night, how about you?"
She wiped her face with one of her hands.
"I slept well, mommy."
"This is your meal-" I shifted the tray to the other side so that she could gain access.
"Let me know if you want some more when you're done with this." And I continued to eat while fixing my gaze on my phone screen with many questions running in my head-of which one was whether or not my ex-husband had seen the interview.
Does he know of my return?
This was one reason why I needed to hear from Toby. He was the only one who could answer that.
"Mommy?"
"Yes, baby?"
Once again, I dropped my phone and met her gaze. "Do you want something?"
A confused four-year-old shook her head, she nodded the next moment and asked me. "When am I starting school?" Her soft tone filled the space. "Is it going to take long before I start?"
"Oh, my child. Soon."
The young girl nodded and continued to eat. She looked up once in a while to look at me, a gaze that said she was enjoying the meal.
"As soon as we're done with arranging the house, you'll start school. Mommy is on the lookout for the right school, she doesn't want you going to the wrong place, do you understand? We need to put a lot of things in place, especially get a driver who will take you around when the time comes."
"Driver?"
"Yes, Sophia. A professional driver. It's not going to be the same as before when the school bus comes to take you. You'll need safety in this country, especially with what I am here to do."
As I spoke, she nodded, even though she didn't understand what I was saying. And when the short conversation came to an end, we returned to our meals as we talked about very random things, especially Sophia who had a lot to say.
But the conversation ended moments later.
Not because we wanted to end it, but because of my beeping phone.
There was an incoming call from a number I did not recognize or have saved on my phone. I didn't know whether to take it or not, but I picked it up moments later. "Good morning."
"Good morning, Mrs. Celeste."
It was the voice of an elderly man who coughed from the other background. He continued. "My name is Ruby and I own The Ruby's, a fast-rising company here in the city. I received your card the other day at the business conference."
"Oh, Mr. Ruby, nice to hear from you."
"My pleasure, Mrs. Celeste. I don't know how free you are to discuss business. I am ready for a partnership with your company."
