Chapter 4 Another asshole

"That piece of crap? I sold it!" his tone devoid of remorse.

I felt like I could murder him right now. "You sold mom's diamond necklace?" I asked, my voice rising in outrage.

"I assume your are not deaf." He hissed.

I couldn't believe my ears. "Why? Why did you sell it?" I asked angrily.

But he just shrugged. "We needed the money to bail Jaxon out of jail."

I was beyond furious. "You sold mom's family heirloom to bail out your mistress's son?" This was the limit. I was done.

He didn't even look a bit remorseful. "What's the big deal, Logan? It's just a piece of jewelry."

I was appalled. "Just a piece of jewelry?" I repeated, my voice raising. "That necklace had been in mom's family for generations. It was mom's most treasured possession."

Dad snorted. "You're so sentimental Logan. You need to learn to prioritize what's truly important."

"You have no right to lecture me about priorities," I said, my voice cold. "You're the one who needs to learn about priorities and stop being a goddamed asshole." I retorted.

His expression turned ugly, and he slammed his fist on the table. "How dare you!" he growled. "Whether you like it or not, I'm still your father and you will not talk to me in that tone." He said angrily.

Hilda shifted closer to him with a look of fake concern on her face. "Gideon dear, maybe we should calm down," she said, her voice dripping with insincerity.

His expression softened and he turned to Hilda. "You're right my dear. I'm sorry."

Hilda's eyes locked onto mine, and she grinned. "Logan, you've always hated me, haven't you?" she said, her voice trembling slightly and I knew it was all pretence. "Even though I've tried to be a good mother to you. But you have to think of your brother. You don't expect us to leave him there do you?"

I felt disgusted by her words. "Don't pretend to be something you're not Hilda, You've never been a mother to me, and Jaxon got what he deserved."

Jaxon snickered at my words as he went over to grab a bottle while pretending not to hear what we were talking about.

Hilda's face contorted in a fake cry, and dad rushed to her side consoling her.

Gosh! How the sight disgusted me. But what I needed to know was who had my necklace.

"Who did you sell the necklace to?" I asked irritated by the sight before me.

His expression turned smug. "I sold it to Luna auction house. They offered me 60 million for it."

My anger was resurrected. "60 million? That necklace is worth much more than that."

"It's old and dusty. Who would pay more than that for that useless piece of jewelry that just sits in the house?" he asked raising a brow.

I shaked my head in disbelief. I could not believe this was the man mum gave her whole life to. "You are truly an embarrassment." I spat as I turned and stormed out of the house as he shouted insults at me. If I stayed here, I'll end up stabbing someone with a kitchen knife.

I pulled out my phone and dialed Peter's number.

"Book a suite at once, then come pick me up." I said still pissed to shit.

"Yes sir." He replied and hung up.

~~~~~
The very next day, I woke up early and tried calling Luna Auction House to see if I could buy the necklace back. The manager and I had a friendly business history, and I'm sure he wouldn't be so cruel to me. Luckily, he picked up the phone.
"Hello Mr Morris, I'm calling about the diamond necklace that was recently consigned to your auction house by my dad Gideon Pierce."
There was a pause on the other end of the line. "Ah yes, the necklace. It's a beautiful piece."
"I want to buy it. How much will it cost?" I asked him.
Mr Morris chuckled. "I'm afraid it's not that simple Mr Logan."
"Why? I'll double the price you offered to my father." I said agitatedly.
"You do not understand Mr Logan. It certainly can't be sold now. The necklace is going to be auctioned off this evening. If you want it, you'll have to come to the auction and win the bid."
I felt a surge of frustration. "Can't I just buy it from you?" I asked still trying to keep my cool.
The manager's tone turned firm. "I'm afraid not Mr Logan. The necklace has already been cataloged and advertised. We can't just sell it to you without giving other bidders a chance."
I took a deep breath trying to calm down. "Okay fine. I'll come to the auction."
"Okay then, I'll make sure to send you an invitation. Just for old times sake."
I ended the call, feeling frustrated and anxious. I couldn't believe I had to go through an auction to get back my mom's necklace. And to make matters worse, I couldn't use the company's funds to buy it since we just barely survived bankruptcy. I had to use my personal savings.
I called Peter and asked him to bring me my financial statement. A few minutes later, he texted me the details. I had just 700 million saved up for personal use.
"Shit!" I cussed out. I can't believe I had just a little left. Before borrowing from that asshole Gavin, I had to use some of my personal funds.
But I reckoned that the amount would be enough for the auction.
~~~~~

It was finally time, and Peter got my suit ready. I dressed up and got out of the hotel, to Peter waiting for me at the parking lot. In no time, we arrived at the venue for the auction.

I stepped out of the car, the bright lights of Luna Auction House illuminating the night sky. The building itself was a grand structure, with towering pillars and a grand staircase. It was the biggest auction house in the country, and only invited guests could attend.

I took a deep breath, smoothing out my suit jacket as I walked towards the entrance. Peter trailed behind me, his eyes scanning the surroundings with a mixture of curiosity and caution.

As we approached the entrance, I could see the security was tight. There were guards stationed at the door, their eyes narrowed as they scrutinized each guest. I could see the metal detectors and scanners, and I knew that every guest would be thoroughly searched before being allowed in.

One of the guards stepped forward, his hand held out. "Invitation please," he said, his voice firm but polite.

I signalled Peter to get the invitation, but before he could bring it out, I heard my name being called from behind.

"Logan," a voice said, and I turned around to see Stephen Cove grinning at me.

Good. Another asshole to piss me off tonight. What a great way to start my evening.
