Chapter 5 Masks and moments

It was my sister. She was lying on the floor looking lifeless,dressed in a modern assassin fit.

" Oh my gosh Evelyn!!,why are you dressed like an assassin?"

She raised up her head tilting her head confusedly.

" Is that really what you're concerned about, after almost killing me?.... Help me up"

" Come on,it's just a taser," I said, helping her up.

" Oh yeah... Let me try it on you then" she said,we both giggled.

I put my arms around her and hugged her tightly enough to stop her blood flow and squealed "i've missed you Soo much"

" Me too sis"

" Now why are you dressed like this for real?"

" Oh...it's for costume day with my friends at the hospital... I picked the badass assassin"

She said showcasing her toy guns and pointing at my head.

" Yeah I can see that.... I thought you would be home resting, I was coming over to see you"

" Yeah,Well, it's our day off and we took advantage of it... since we'll be graduating soon"

We looked at each other and squealed loudly,my face started to hurt from smiling too much.

" Gosh I'm so excited for you"

" I'm excited for both of us sis" she said, bending down to take her handbag which she hid under a white Porsche car.

" Are you kidding me?"

" Yeah ,sure...the car is really nice" she said dismissing what I actually meant, put her arm across my shoulder and we walked home together.

Munching on the snacks I got for her, Evelyn swallowed hurriedly to get the questions out of her .

" How are you coping at the Noa arms mansion sis,how's your fiance?"

" Gosh Fiance!! I'm so tired of hearing that "

" I saw the interview, it must be tough after what he pulled...I was so shocked when you told me that. I couldn't laugh too hard at work" she said, giggling softly.

" hahaha , he's a great guy deep down,I guess he's just putting on a mask ,a really annoying

and convincing one I'm just doing what I'm there for, I don't want to get too consumed in their lives....I love my life _ and it's with you"

" We're both gonna be apart when we get married, you know that right? But you're still gonna be in my life....you are my whole world" she said holding my hands with her hands covered in Dorito crumbs.

We smiled warmly , it was comforting being with someone who's home itself again.

" We should find time to check on dad how he's doing about mom"

" If he was really suffering he would've been here by now".

I gasped at what she said, making her know how wrong and harsh it was and grabbed a handful of Doritos and threw it at her face.

Later that evening.

Walking back to the bus stop,it was now evening,the cool air brushed my hair lightly and my fringe against my eyes.

Thinking about what Evelyn said about Dad made a pit in my stomach.

But on thinking of Malakai , what he said.

Does he really think of me that way? Even if he does, I don't give a damn.

I just wish Evelyn could come back with me.

I stood still with my weekender bag on my shoulder to quiet the noise in my mind and breathe in the evening air.

I could suddenly hear the roar of a car speeding towards my direction from afar distracting my little moment of mindfulness.

A sports car? What if the person winds down ,takes out a gun and murders me?

At that thought I shot my eyes open and started to run ,my fake Fiancee reward heel pumps shoe making me unable to run.

The sports car reached me before I could even move.

I closed my eyes again in fear , accepting my fate , with the awkward silence I opened my left eye and saw that it was a jet black Bugatti.

The car window lowered ,it was Malakai.

" I wanna take you somewhere, Annika".
