Darkness pressed in from every side, but I heard him.
Dante's voice, broken and terrified. "Amara, stay with me be strong for me please.i can't loose you,
Something cold pulled me down.
And then light. Voices. Heat.
"Get her on the table now!
"She's hemorrhaging. We're losing both!
"No." His voice cracked. "She's mine."
"She's bleeding out, and your presence is not helping!
Another wave of pain hit. White-hot. My body convulsed. I couldn't breathe I couldn't move my body
The world splintered.
Then nothing.
I woke slowly. The pain was still there, but duller now. Muted. Like it had swallowed me and spat me back out.
I was in a clean room. White walls. Soft sheets. Machines beeping steadily beside me.
A hospital.
The pack infirmary.
I blinked hard, trying to move but my body felt like lead. My shoulder was bandaged, my abdomen wrapped tight.
My hands instinctively moved to my stomach.
Still.
Too still.
Terror gripped me again.
The door opened, and Dante walked in.
His eyes met mine instantly. Raw. Haunted.
He came to my side without hesitation.
I didn't say anything. Couldn't.
His hands hovered over my arm, afraid to touch me.
"The baby?" I asked, barely more than a breath.
He swallowed hard. Sat on the edge of the bed. "He's alive.
I let out a sob.
A boy.
Alive.
"But the doctors said...His voice shook. "It was close. Too close. They had to stop the labor. Your body went into shock. If we hadn't gotten you here when we did...
I closed my eyes, the tears slipping free.
"I thought I lost him," I whispered.
"You didn't." Dante leaned forward, pressing his forehead to the back of my hand. "You saved him. You saved both of you."
I stayed quiet for a moment, trying to steady the shaking in my chest.
Then I asked, "Where's Luca?
"In the dungeons," Dante said coldly. "He's unconscious. The healers are stabilizing him for questioning."
I nodded, every inch of me aching. "He said you were already dead. What did he mean?"I hope he is not planning evil.we have to be careful.luca is not giving up soon
Dante's jaw clenched. "I don't know. Yet. But I'll find out."
A silence settled between us. Heavy. Unspoken things lingering in the air.
He finally said, "You never told me. About the baby. Why?
I looked away. "You rejected me, Dante. What was I supposed to do-come running back and beg you to take responsibility?
His expression twisted. "I was trying to protect you.
"By breaking me?"by rejection?you threw me out,no explanation, have you forgotten,at least not so soon,I said bitterly.every memories still hurt badly, and I don't want to remember any
"I thought I was cursed," he said, his voice cracking. "I thought if I stayed near you, you'd die like the others.i taught I will loose you which I don't want to let it happen
I frowned. "What others?
He looked up, eyes bloodshot. "Every she-wolf I've ever been close to. My mother. My first mate. Anyone I let in."
Realization hit me like a blow.
"You thought I was next," I whispered.
He nodded. "So I pushed you away so you won't die like . Hard enough that you'd run.
"And I did," I whispered. "But it didn't save me, did it?it still doesn't change the fact, here I am struggling from your enemies, still in pains.you were trying to save me you should have done better.not rejection I said my voice cracking.tears running down my face
"No Amara ." His hand trembled as it reached for mine. "And I will never forgive myself for that."
I didn't know what to say.we will stay together and fight for what is ours we will not give up,and nothing will happen to my child and you.i promise I will stay and fight
A knock came at the door.
Mateo stepped in, his face grim. "He's awake. Luca.luca is not dead he is awake and strong, that means he will come back to finish what he started.maybe we should hide Amara to protect her,am not hiding for anybody I snapped.dante looked at me and smiled she is not hiding, she can't continue hiding, not anymore
Dante stood immediately. "Let's go."
I started to sit up, but he stopped me. "You need to rest.
"I need answers."
His jaw flexed. Then he nodded.
The dungeon was cold and damp, the scent of blood and steel hanging thick in the air.
Luca was chained to the wall, bruised and battered, but very much alive. His eyes lit up when he saw us.
"Ah, the happy couple returns," he rasped.
Dante's voice was pure ice. "Why, Luca? Who are you working with?"
Luca smirked. "Wouldn't you like to know?"
"You tried to kill my mate. My heir."
His grin widened. "And I failed. Shame."
Dante stepped forward, claws flexing, rage radiating off him.
"Enough games," I said, my voice low. "You said he was already dead. What did you mean?"
Luca chuckled darkly. "There's a bigger war coming, Amara. And you're already on the losing side."
"Who?" Dante growled. "Who else is involved?"
But Luca just laughed manic, twisted.
"I'll tell you one thing," he said. "You should've let me kill her. Would've been kinder."
Dante lunged, but Mateo held him back.
"Let him rot," I said. "We'll find the truth ourselves."
We turned to leave, but Luca's final words echoed behind us.
"She's coming, cousin. And when she does, even your precious little mate won't be enough to save you."
Back in the infirmary, I sat quietly while the healer checked my vitals. Dante stood by the window, tense.
"She's coming," I said softly. "Who was he talking about?"
"I don't know," Dante replied. "But I will find out. I swear to you, Amara I won't let anyone hurt you again."
I wanted to believe him.
But deep down, I knew this was just the beginning.
My body might've been healing...
But the real war hadn't even started yet.
