Chapter 6 A Miracle

Tension hung thick in the air, heavy with resentment. Other than Glenn and Derek, no one else was willing to let Allison try anything.

Drawing every ounce of strength he had left, Glenn shouted, "Out! All of you, get out!"

Using Derek for support, his frail body swaying unsteadily, he began moving toward the door.

"If you refuse to leave, do not blame me for what happens next." At the threshold, Derek threw a cold glance over his shoulder.

Even then, Eric, Renee, Jaycob, and several people stubbornly dug in their heels, refusing to budge.

Before anyone could voice an objection, the bodyguards stationed nearby sprang into action. Without hesitation, they grabbed arms, yanked collars, and hauled the unwilling out one by one, caring little for dignity.

The instant the last of them was forced out, the door slammed shut with a deafening finality, the lock clicking into place.

Left stewing outside, the evicted family members muttered curses under their breath, though none dared raise their voices given Glenn's presence.

Confusion and fury simmered beneath Eric's and Michael's stiff expressions. Why had their father placed so much unwavering trust in Allison?

Deep down, they began to wonder-what was her real story?

While the minutes dragged on, the tension outside the locked door thickened to the breaking point.

Stirring the unrest, Simon muttered under his breath, "No one even knows what's happening in there. If there was any real hope, we would've seen something by now. The longer we wait, the worse it'll get."

Despite the murmuring doubt, Glenn stood his ground. His voice wavered but carried fierce certainty. "Allie would never harm Jane. She just wouldn't!"

By now, no one could deny it-Glenn's affection and faith in Allison were written all over his weary face.

At the same time, Derek stood rooted in place, locked in silent agony. His grandmother's life teetered on the edge, his marriage to Allison was unraveling, and his grandfather's fragile health weighed heavier than ever on his heart.

His lips pressed into a tight, strained line. Maybe he should hold off on mentioning the divorce until everything calmed down.

He knew Kaylyn would not make a fuss about waiting.

Besides, he could not stomach the thought of losing another family that still cared for him.

Just as Eric reached his limit and raised his hand to bang on the door, it swung open.

Instantly, every pair of eyes snapped toward the entrance.

Framed in the doorway stood Allison, her hair hastily tied back, forehead gleaming with sweat, exhaustion dragging at her features. "Jane is fine now."

Peering through the narrow opening behind her, they caught sight of the heart monitor-its once dead line now pulsing with steady beats.

Stepping aside, Allison made room for them to enter. Derek, still holding Glenn upright, was the first to move forward into the room.

Lying in the bed, Jane remained unconscious, but her skin showed a soft flush of returning life, a fragile hope sparking in her once still body.

Simon lunged toward the bed, his face frozen in shock, eyes wide as if he were staring at something unreal.

The woman he had just declared dead was now alive.

Beside the bed, Derek and Glenn stood rooted to the spot, unable to look away, their emotions written plainly across their faces.

Across the room, Pamela's hand shook as she pointed to Allison. "She..."

The intensity of the procedure had drained every ounce of strength from Allison. She had not handled a scalpel in years, and now her hands hung limp at her sides, trembling visibly.

In a steady, almost detached voice, she asked, "And what about me?"

Throughout the entire ordeal, her mind had stayed locked on Jane's fragile body, refusing even the slightest distraction. Failure had not been an option.

Quickly, Pamela dropped her gaze, her voice a tiny mumble. "Nothing."

A shiver of unease crawled up her spine. What was it about Allison today? She felt unshakable. Unstoppable.

Meanwhile, Eric and Michael closed in around Simon, bombarding him with a flurry of urgent questions.

After checking Jane's vitals, Simon struggled to mask his amazement. Her condition had indeed turned around. With proper care, she had a real chance at living several more years.

"She's going to make it. You actually saved her!" Simon faced Allison with wide eyes. "Could you walk us through how you did it?"

In cases of sudden cardiac arrest, the window for revival was brutally short, often no more than a few precious minutes.

Without a hint of hesitation, Allison opened her mouth and began outlining each step she had taken.

Although much of the explanation went over the heads of the non-medical crowd, the hospital staff hanging nearby followed every word-and the more they heard, the more their respect deepened. They were beginning to grasp just how extraordinary Allison was.

From the side, Derek turned to watch her. Allison stood tall, her eyes alive with certainty, her voice never faltering as she detailed one medical term after another with precision.

Listening carefully, Simon felt admiration surge within him. When she finished, he stepped forward and offered a solemn nod.

"Mrs. Evans, I was wrong about you. I apologize."

The memory of his earlier doubt and sharp criticism burned in his mind, making his cheeks flush with shame. Lowering his gaze, Simon avoided meeting her eyes.

Allison accepted his apology without a flicker of bitterness.

Now that Simon had publicly acknowledged her success, even those who had doubted her the most could only grit their teeth and silently admit that the credit for saving Jane belonged to Allison alone.

Stepping toward her, Elaine Evans, Derek's younger half-sister, offered Allison a small tissue. "Here, you're sweating."

Barely twenty years old and still in college, Elaine lingered by Allison's side after handing her the tissue, her voice filled with awe. "I thought we had lost Grandma. I still can't believe you saved her."

Blushing faintly, Elaine dabbed at her own misty eyes and whispered, "Thank you, Allison. Really... thank you."
