The call came in the middle of the night.

Sharp.

Panicked.

And then, nothing.

I jolted awake, heart hammering in my chest as I fumbled for my phone on the bedside table.

The screen glowed with a missed call from Missi.

I called back immediately, pressing the phone to my ear so hard it hurt.

Voicemail.

Again.
