Returning at 10 o'clock, we purchased, at the little shop which caters for this lodging-house, a loaf of bread for 2?d., two ounces of boiled ham, a penny tin of condensed milk, and a pennyworth of sugar; tea and butter we had with us. Armed with these, in the kitchen we speedily obtained hot water and made our tea-supper. We took it into the dinin
