Chapter 5 Chapître 5

Chapter 5

"You think I don't know anything about you, but you're wrong." »»

Callum had dropped this sentence as an arrow, precise and intended to pierce. Elena frowned, trying to decipher her intentions. His words were nothing like a provocation. They brought a weight, something she didn't understand yet.

"How long have you been watching me, exactly?" She replied, seeking to hide the point of mistrust that was awakening in her.

He leaned against the table, his arms crossed, the shadow of a smile playing on his lips. "It's not you that I was watching. It's your line. »»

This answer destabilized her, but she masked her trouble. "What do you mean?" »»

"You are not a simple wolf, Elena. And you know it. »»

She looked away, looking for an escape from this conversation. Since her transformation, there had always been murmurs around her, corner looks, conversations that stopped suddenly when she approached. But no one had ever explained to her why she was different.

"Now is not the time for puzzles, Callum. If you have something to say, say it clearly. »»

He straightened up, his face becoming serious. "Your blood carries the inheritance of an old line. Heaks, wolves capable of manipulating vital energy, to see what escapes others. »»

She shook her head, incredulous. "It makes no sense. I'm just a ... "

"No, you're not," he cut. "And if you stop fleeing what you are, you will understand it." »»

She opened her mouth to reply, but he raised a hand to silence her. "Do you think Kieran was your only link?" What Sylvia has chosen you by chance? Wake up, Elena. You have been manipulated, formed to play a very specific role. »»

These words struck a sensitive nerve, awakening an anger that she had been buried for a long time. "You know nothing about what I went through. Nothing. »»

He approached, planting his gaze in his. "And you, do you only know what you are?" Why your instincts push you to run, to fight, to survive? It's not simple will. Your heritage speaks. »»

Silence was stretched between them, heavy with unsaid. She wanted to reject him, deny everything he said, but a part of her knew he was right.

"So what am I supposed to do? She whispered finally, her trembling voice in spite of herself.

"Learning," he replied simply. "Understand what you are able to do. »»

Before she could ask another question, he signaled to one of his men, who brought a small wooden box engraved with ancient symbols.

" What is this ? She asked, suspicious.

"An artifact of your line," he explained, opening the box to reveal a fragment of black stone sparkling with a strange light. "It is a resonance stone. It reacts to the presence of a particular energy. Yours. »»

She instinctively fell. "I have no ... power or energy, or anything like this. »»

Callum smiles, but this time there was nothing mocking in his expression. "Then, touch it. And prove to me that I am wrong. »»

She hesitated, her heart beating to break everything. But she finally reached out, her trembling fingers touching the cold surface of the stone.

Unexpected heat springs through it, like a fire that spread in its veins. Flurling images paraded in his mind: wolves surrounded by light, ancient songs, miraculous healings. She heard murmurs, as if forgotten voices called her.

She suddenly removed her hand, breathless. "What was it? »»

Callum seemed almost impressed. "The start. »»

She shook her head, fighting against the desire to flee. "No, it's not me. I'm not ... that. »»

"You can deny as much as you want," he said calmly. "But you just felt the truth. »»

She put a hand in her hair, trying to regain control. "Why me? Why now? »»

"Because you no longer have the luxury of ignoring it," he replied. "If you want to survive, you have to accept what you are. »»

She stared at him, looking for a lie or manipulation in her words. But there was only certainty.

"What am I supposed to do, then?" She finally asked, his voice filled with a mixture of challenge and resignation.

He approached, stretching the stone towards her. "We will start with a ritual. A simple test. If you are ready to face what sleeps in you. »»

She hesitated, but something in her, something primal, encouraged her to accept. She handed her hand, catching the stone.

The following minutes were blurred. Callum whispered ancient words, and the stone emitted intense light. Elena felt a force ranging from her, a power that she had never suspected.

When it was all over, she stood there, trembling but different. She didn't know what had changed, but she felt it.

Callum looked at her with a new intensity. "Now you understand. »»

She nodded slowly, knowing that nothing would ever be the same.
