Rachel then grabbed Lucian's hand and led him to the parking area. Once they reached the car she was driving, she immediately released his hand and turned to face him sharply.
"What are you doing here? How did you even get to this place?" she snapped, her tone high-pitched.
"I was just worried because you left tonight. Didn't I also offer to drive you?" Lucian replied calmly, though his eyes showed deep concern.
Rachel closed her eyes for a moment, trying to hold back her emotions. She took a deep breath and then said, "If I chose to go alone, it means I don't want you to come with me. Anyway, I'm just meeting my friends. I can take care of myself."
Lucian fell silent, not arguing. In his mind, he only imagined the worst-case scenario-what if he hadn't shown up that night? What if Gio had really crossed the line? He couldn't let Rachel face that alone.
"I'm sorry... I was really worried," he finally said.
Rachel let out a harsh sigh. "You don't need to worry about me so much. It's true that Daddy trusted me to you, but that doesn't mean you have to look after me like I'm a five-year-old. I'm an adult, Lucian. I can take care of myself. It's just a nightclub, not a war zone. You don't need to interfere in everything I do."
Her words made Lucian lower his gaze for a moment. He felt his good intentions were misunderstood. He never meant to control or invade Rachel's privacy-he just wanted to make sure his wife was okay.
"Sorry... I didn't mean to interfere," he replied softly.
Rachel looked at Lucian, who now stood without his glasses. From this close, she could clearly see the bright green in his eyes. The eyes that had always been hidden behind thick lenses turned out to be very beautiful. Sharp, yet there was a warmth that made her momentarily freeze... lost in a gaze that she hadn't expected to make her feel calm.
She quickly averted her gaze. When she noticed that Lucian was driving one of their cars, she looked back at him.
"Alright. Forget about today. Let's go home now," Rachel said, her voice calmer.
Lucian just nodded and turned, heading toward his car.
"Where are you going?" Rachel asked quickly.
Lucian turned. "I also brought a car. I'll follow you from behind."
Upon hearing this, Rachel crossed her arms over her chest and stared at Lucian without expression. But inside, a mix of frustration and guilt tangled together.
"Are you sure you can drive in your condition? Your glasses are broken, and I don't think you can see clearly, considering how thick the glasses you normally wear are," Rachel said, eyeing Lucian, who was blinking several times, trying to adjust.
"I'll try to be careful," Lucian replied, but before he could continue, Rachel had already grabbed his wrist, pulled him to the passenger seat, and instructed him to get in.
"This time, I'll drive. Let the driver take you later. Just come home with me," Rachel said firmly, then slammed the car door, not giving Lucian a chance to protest. She quickly walked around the car, sat behind the wheel, and began driving through the night streets with her husband sitting in the passenger seat. Occasionally, Rachel glanced at Lucian, who was solely focused on the road ahead.
There was only one thing Rachel could be thankful for about what happened at the club earlier-because Gio had stepped on the thick glasses Lucian usually wore, she could now see her husband's face more clearly. All this time, those glasses had always masked Lucian's appearance, and now she could finally see how handsome he truly was. Though it felt a little awkward, Rachel admitted it silently to herself.
"Careful," Lucian called out, startling Rachel. Without warning, she hit the brakes as the traffic light turned red.
"Are you sleepy? If you are, let me drive instead," Lucian said, concerned.
Rachel shook her head. "No, I was just a little lost in thought."
She refocused on the road, but inside, she scolded herself. Damn it, just a few seconds of looking at his face without glasses and I already lost focus behind the wheel.
"Alright, Rachel, get your head back in the game if you want to make it home in one piece," she muttered to herself, almost unconsciously.
Lucian turned to her. "What did you say?"
"Nothing, just praying that we get home safely," Rachel replied quickly, trying to sound casual, then pressed the gas pedal again. A few minutes later, they arrived home. They walked up the steps together, but when they reached the door to their bedroom, Rachel stopped and turned to Lucian.
"Before we go to the office tomorrow, we need to get your eyes checked. You need new glasses, don't you?" Rachel said.
"No need, I can handle it myself. Tomorrow, just let the driver take you, and I'll take care of my glasses," Lucian replied, but Rachel shook her head.
"No. I'll take you to get your eyes checked and help you choose the right glasses. So, don't pick those thick ones you always wear," Rachel said firmly. The two of them then fell silent for a moment, gazing at each other, until Rachel looked away.
"Well then, good night," she said, turning the doorknob and stepping into her room. Lucian stood still, wondering if he had just received a sign of care from his wife. After a few seconds, he simply shrugged indifferently and entered his own room.
Lucian sat on the edge of the bed, occasionally massaging the bridge of his nose. It felt strange not having his glasses resting there anymore, leaving behind the marks of something he'd worn for so long. He then reached for his phone and started tapping away at it.
"I just had an unpleasant encounter at a club. Can you find out about someone named Gio? I don't know his full name, but I do know he used to be close to Rachel. Do whatever you can to find him and what his family's involved in. He's seriously disturbing the peace between me and Rachel. I'm waiting to hear back from you as soon as possible," Lucian said, then ended the call and tossed his phone aside before lying down on the bed, staring up at the ceiling.
For some reason, even during this moment of calm, time felt like it had frozen-until someone came to disrupt it. Lucian exhaled harshly, frustrated by the situation.
