Chapter 5 Swear

I watched as the seer exited the king's office while I struggled to process everything she had told me. Why would the moon goddess choose me out of all people? I still find it hard to believe. I try not to think about it too much at the moment because she will be able to tell me more when we meet for brunch tomorrow. It's strange that even though I simply came to register my pack, I've learned more about myself than I could have ever imagined. Although there was a lot to process, everything seemed to make sense to me as well.

It finally made sense to me why the wolves we found felt comfortable sharing their life experiences with me since they trusted me to look out for them. I mean, I'll risk my life to keep any of my pack mates safe, so they don't have to be concerned about that. The King motioned for us to take the seats in front of his desk rather than the couch as Thrain prodded my arm, and as I shook my thoughts free, I saw him. It's time to carry out our mission here. As soon as we got started, a doctor arrived to take a blood sample from me in order to confirm the validity of my claim to Alpha. After the doctor had departed, the king took out a stack of documents and began filling them out before handing them to me to complete. We are currently hunched over a sizable map to categorize the terrain. I already understood that I preferred to stay with the group rather than move it. "Where are you settled now?" The Queen inquired I carefully examined the map; each of the many territories was marked with its name in the center. When I went in search of the Silver Thunder Pack, I discovered that they owned the most land. "Just here, about an hour's run from the Silver Thunder Pack," I indicated, the region devoid of names or outlines. You're close to them? Do they present any problems? Who has been hurt? While the King massaged her back, the Queen placed a hand over her stomach. False, my queen. They were understandably frightened at first, but I make sure that none of my wolves venture too close to their borders. "Thank God, and please address me as Alexis and address this one as Julius," said the group. The king hissed at her after she touched him on the back. We are royalty, Lexi. Our subjects do not address us by our given names. "Oh, hush, love, Alyssa and I are going to be best friends, I can tell." They clearly have a strong love for one another since the King simply shook his head and smiled a little before returning to studying the chart while I giggled at their connection. I turned to face Alexis, who gave me a smile and sat down in the comfortable, roomy chair behind the desk with a look of relaxation on her face. She must be pretty sore, I'm sure. Back to this, then. Is that the place you want to stay? It is unclaimed territory, and I find it difficult to envision relocating everyone given how long you have been there." Wow, that would be great. Moving more than 200 wolves would be challenging, Alexis exclaimed, and Julius suddenly looked up. Oops. They didn't seem content. "You are responsible for 200 wolves? Why didn't you speak up earlier? The darkening of King Julius' eyes indicated that his wolf was about to erupt. I had to explain quickly. I'm really sorry, Your Highness; I just learned a few days ago that I could register a pack, so I came right away. As a result of my early parental loss, I lack extensive knowledge about formal Alpha affairs. I hung my head in shame because I didn't want to see their expressions. With her tummy in the way, Alexis stood up from the chair and walked over to give me a hug. She sighed, and I laughed. "It's alright, Alyssa; don't worry. It's partly my fault that I didn't even know you existed. King Julius shook his head and remarked, "I don't know how you were never found." Like I told King Julius, my wolves are peaceful. I replied with a smile, "We run like any other pack, but we all sleep in tents. King Julius grinned as he searched his desk for additional documents. "Well, that's enough. I'll send my best building crew back with you so we can begin constructing homes. Along with that, we'll give you a monthly allowance until you can support yourself." Thank you, King Julius; that is very generous.""Please, Lexi here will have my head if I don't help her new bestie in any way I can." King Julius turned to face his wife, who was just beaming adorably at him. She smirked at me and nodded as he turned his head away. I had to cover my mouth with my palm to stop myself from laughing. Thrain could be heard stifling his own laughter. When I first arrived here, I didn't anticipate becoming friends with the King and Queen, but it's good to have another female buddy. Even though I have Laura, it's good to have a conversation partner who understands what it's like to shoulder so many responsibilities. Right, the only thing left to do is name your beta and gamma, as well as the pack. King Julius looked up at me as he jotted down some notes: "Thrain Hawkins is Beta, and Josh Roberts is Gamma, along with his mate, Laura." King Julius nodded. Since we departed, I had been trying to come up with a name for the pack, but I was at a loss. I scoured my brain for anything to think of. We required something unique to us because alphas gave their packs names based on characteristics that characterized them. The Silver Thunder Pack took its name from the massive storm that was approaching as their Alpha was registering. After clearing one's throat, I turn to look at Thrain, who had a little smile on his face as he said, "I got an idea." I nod to him, and he turns to face King Julius. "The Blood Moon Pack." I exhaled a choked chuckle as I turned to face everyone; Alexis was holding her belly, and King Julius was grinning and shaking his head. I nod at King Julius as he writes it down and says, "I love it; that will be our name." King Julius tells us what will happen next while we continue to wait, and then he adds something about a celebration. My tummy buried itself in my arse. "Don't act so frightened, Alyssa. I nodded as his words sunk in. "We need to introduce you and your pack to the other packs around here so they all know you are a legitimate pack and not just a bunch of rogues." It makes sense; the Silver Thunder Pack didn't like us when we moved here because they thought of us as just a group of rogues. However, now that we have registered as a pack, they no longer need to be concerned about us. Since we are neighbors, I will need to arrange a meeting with their Alpha after the celebration so that we can get to know one another better. As we prepared to go, everyone stood up to say their goodbyes when I suddenly had an idea. I grinned. "King Julius?" "Yes." "Do you think it would be possible to keep the fact that I am a female a secret until the party?" I took a deep breath, unsure of how he would react to the deception. Alexis approached me and gave me another hug as her face appeared to be about to break in half. As I put my arms around her shoulders, I laughed. She backed off, but she still had her arms on my shoulders. "I love how sly you are, Alyssa. You, your Beta, and the warriors will eat dinner with us tonight. I must get to know my brand-new best friend. King Julius chuckled as he encircled her waist and pulled her to his side. Your secret is safe with us, and I'll see you at dinner, he said as he turned to face me. I'll arrange for someone to pick you up and take you to our private dining area. Tom and Eric started to follow me as I left the room after nodding. Thrain pulled himself off the wall and followed me as I grinned at him. "Excited about tomorrow afternoon?" I leaned toward him while nodding. There will be a little rite to formally unite the pack tomorrow after we see the seer. Normally, the entire pack must be present, but the seer claimed that since I am much stronger than the others and as long as everyone swears allegiance, we will all be connected and able to mind link. Even if I tried, I couldn't help but smile. Tomorrow, we'll be a real pack, and I'll be able to take care of everyone and lead my pack like a real Alpha. I reflected on everyone at home and the one person I was severely missing at the moment-his grin, which could quickly brighten the room and put me in a better mood.
