Chapter 6 You'll Walk Away With Nothing

Isaac slowly pulled away from Caitlin, but not before pressing a lingering kiss to the corner of her mouth. With a casual motion, he fixed the collar of her blouse, covering the delicate skin he had just revealed.

Perhaps it was that fleeting moment of indulgence that put him in a good mood. A few minutes later, he spoke again. "I'll arrange the top medical team for your mother. You don't need to worry about money. I'll cover all the costs."

He was convinced Caitlin was overreacting because of her mother's condition and the expenses that came with it. From his point of view, money was never a problem-he had more than enough.

So, even though a part of him still wondered if she had gotten close to him for selfish reasons, leaving her was never something he seriously considered.

To him, Caitlin was the ideal wife-elegant, soft-spoken, and never causing trouble. She made home feel calm, giving him space to pour all his energy into running Mason Group.

In his mind, it was a fair exchange. She relied on him financially, and he enjoyed the comfort of her quiet presence.

While he sat there lost in thought, Caitlin had already smoothed out the wrinkles in the clothes he'd just messed up.

She turned her head away, avoiding his gaze and saying nothing. The delicate outline of her face held a quiet defiance he wasn't used to.

Isaac stared at her for a moment, an odd surge of frustration creeping up on him. This wasn't the Caitlin he knew.

She had always been quiet and compliant, never once challenging him. Whatever he asked for-no matter how unreasonable-she would nod and go along with it. But now, that silence felt like a wall between them, and for the first time, she was shutting him out.

After a brief pause, he added, "I've already spoken to Robert. If you need money, there's no need to explain-just use my account directly."

Caitlin's fingers quivered, and tears nearly welled up in her eyes.

But what she felt wasn't gratitude. It was a deep, painful sorrow for herself.

In the two years she had been married to Isaac, she had tiptoed around him, always fearful of upsetting him. Every time she asked for money, it felt as though she was swallowing her pride, losing her dignity.

Two years had passed, and only now did he seem to care about her emotions.

But now, it was too late.

The barrier between them wasn't just Emmalyn-it was a mountain of misunderstandings, gossip, and judgment from those around them.

Now, Caitlin found herself without the strength to continue this marriage.

She shook her head, slow yet firm. "That won't be necessary."

Isaac immediately grasped what she meant.

She was still dead set on getting a divorce-still so desperate to cut ties with him that she wouldn't even accept the smallest favor.

His expression darkened as frustration bubbled up. "Caitlin, don't forget we have a prenup. Once you divorce me, you walk away with nothing. Absolutely nothing."

"I know," she said quietly. "But Isaac, I don't care. I don't want anything-just the divorce."

Her calmness only fueled his anger further.

He couldn't wrap his head around it. He wasn't the type to chase after women, much less go out of his way to win them back.

And as far as he was concerned, Caitlin had never suffered during their marriage. She'd lived comfortably, untouched by hardship. If she really did leave, how would she afford her mother's treatment? Who would take on the burden of her entire family?

To him, it was obvious-this had to be a bluff. There was no way she'd walk away like that. She was just trying to get his attention.

Right then, his phone rang. It was his mother, Felice Mason.

"Isaac," she said warmly. "Your grandfather was asking about you again today. If you're not too busy, why don't you bring her over to the estate for dinner sometime?"

Considering the tension between him and Caitlin, he answered briefly, "I'm tied up these days. Maybe next time."

He ended the call without waiting for a reply.

When he turned back to Caitlin, she was hunched over her suitcase, hurriedly stuffing something into a hidden compartment near the bottom.

Isaac's eyes narrowed. It looked like some kind of document. And from the glimpse he caught, it seemed familiar-like a medical report.

His voice cut through the air. "Caitlin, what are you hiding? Show me."

Her fingers froze mid-movement, and a cold wave swept over her, sinking deep into her bones.
