The ray of the sun coming from the open window cast a glow of the shining glass right at the back of the room on my face, disturbing my sleep.
I rolled to the side and tried yawning, but a wave of intense discomfort washed over me. My eyes were on fire. The redness and irritation I had experienced the previous day was nothing compared to my current state.
I could barely open my eyes because of the maddening sting from the punishment I subjected myself to at the tannery. Since I didn't want the maid to feel bad or scared, I decided to keep it low and lay there until an unexpected guest came in.
"You should be familiar with the mansion now, little rogue"
His smell had filled my nose before he even appeared at the door. It was so strong that I couldn't help but inhale it over and over. My wolf shifted a bit to acknowledge his presence. He was that powerful.
Little rogue? He had stamped that name on me and it was extremely annoying. He didn't need to remind me that I had been out of my pack for years. I have a name, so why did he ignore that and name me according to what he wanted?
I laid there without a response, shutting my eyes tightly to prevent him from stressing me further, but that didn't work for him. He sensed my red eyes and trouble came crashing on the room. All the maids were summoned with immediate effect. His voice shook the entire room as they rushed to my room, shivering.
"So, how did my guest end up this way?"
A very loud silence followed. No one dared to speak because they didn't even know what happened in the first place.
"Should I beat sense into you all before you reveal how she ended up this way?" Niamh's voice rose.
She must have come in with the Alpha. Immediately, one of the maids came in with a bowl of cold water and a towel to help me massage my eyes. I knew I had to step in before they all get punished for something I had caused.
"Don't scold them. I went to the tannery myself because I was curious about what it looked like."
He didn't seem to believe me but let it slide since I had spoken to him. His eyes raked my body as I struggled with the cold water being pressed on my eyes to get rid of the redness. Finally, my eyes were opened, and I could see clearly, aside from the subtle sting from time to time.
"Niamh, get her to the main mansion. She should start preparing for her duties."
He didn't say more than that before he left. Even at his absence, his fear hung over all of them. They knew what they would be in for if my condition had worsened, and I didn't step in like that.
"Get her moving immediately"
Niamh's voice was sharp with order. Within an hour, I was already in my new room. This one was extremely sophisticated. The walls were adorned with rich wallpaper that depicted scenes of lunar landscapes, mythical creatures, and ancient forests. There were soft glows of lanterns at every corner with a huge majestic four-poster bed in the middle of the room.
The sheets were silk and velvet, soft and comfortable. The carvings of wolves, moons, and the pack's crest were everywhere. The glasses of the windows were stained in art form, casting colorful patterns of the floor of the room.
Crystal vases, silver-edged mirrors, warmth, and luxuries filled everywhere and it spoke of the Alpha' wealth. What a way of displaying his wealth.
"These new set of maids will serve you from now on, my Lady" Niamh pointed to them and I turned to see that they were on a different uniform entirely.
Their outfits were of a royal standard that matched working for the Alpha's main mansion. Just when I had thought I would be close to Maren, he tore me apart from them forcefully.
Also, what lady? If they continued addressing me like that, I might be tempted to stay, so I blocked it immediately.
"Just call me Aria. I don't appreciate the title" my voice was sharper than I had intended, but as long as they got the message.
Niamh ignored me totally. She proceeded to feed me about the rules of the main mansion and how I was expected to follow to the letters because no one was exempted from it. The rules were nothing much, it just signified the orderliness and expected conduct from everyone.
I knew I wouldn't be there for long so the rules didn't bother me. I just needed to lay low and pretend to follow the rules before disappearing at any given chance.
"You will be eating dinner with the Alpha every Friday, please always prepare towards then. Also, your lessons will start next week, everything you need will be provided"
She wasn't asking for my opinion, it was an order that I had no choice but to follow. Her words were final. Around evening time, he entered my room again to see how I was faring and my eyes.
His hand went straight for my chin so he could have a better look at my face. His breath roamed my face in the process, which only angered me. I didn't like being touched without my permission and he being the Alpha, doesn't give him the exception.
I threw my chin to the side, forcing his hand off it. My eyes rolled up in disgust before I glared at him.
"I never gave you the permission to touch me."
I couldn't care less if he was the leader of the pack. To me, he was an oppressor who killed my parents and forced me to be in the bondage of his mansion.
"Stop fighting it and accept the bond"
His hand gripped my chin once again, turning my face to be right in front of him. My lip curved into a smirk.
"I'd rather die."
I spat back at him, a few spit splashing on his face. It was intentional, that was how much I loathed him.
