Was it that his parents had accepted her suddenly? But, all these were nothing but lies. Victoria had no idea how to tell his parents that the son in front of them was nothing but a liar.
"She doesn't look bad at all. But, you never told us that you were coming with your fiance. I would have made a very exquisite table just for the both of you," Augustine's mother commented and Victoria gave her a fake smile.
Augustine coughed a little as if trying to clear his throat. Victoria inhaled deeply as her eyes rested on him, waiting for the words that were about to come out of his lips.
"I'm sorry mum. I wanted it to be...a surprise. You know. We are already engaged. What is left now is the wedding ceremony," Augustine answered his mother.
His mother was filled with joy about the so-called good news that her son has brought to the family. As for Augustine's father, he sat there nodding his head at every word his son said.
They looked so proud of their son. Victoria wished deeply that they knew the behind the scenes of everything happening between the both of them.
Her face fell as she became tired of pretending that everything was okay. As if she was pushed by something, Victoria pulled her hands forcefully from Augustine's grip. She was pissed that everything that was playing out was nothing that she knew about.
"Liar," Victoria almost blurted out but she restrained herself. Instead, she shot Augustine an angry glare and said.
"Listen, Augustine. You know what you did. I am going to leave here now. I mean now!" She threatened.
Her voice was loud. But, it was not so loud that his parents heard. It was only Augustine that could hear what she said.
Although, Augustine's parents were suspecting that something was wrong because of the body language of Victoria.
"Is everything okay? Are you not comfortable here, my dear?" Augustine's mother asked with concern written all over her face.
Victoria swallowed her saliva and nodded with a smile. She knew that she was not meant to be doing this but, still she could not expose Augustine to his parents.
But, she wished she could.
"It's nothing ma'am. I am very much comfortable. I am just having a little misunderstanding with him," Victoria responded and Augustine's mother took a few steps towards her.
"A misunderstanding? Oh, no. Please, you two should try your best and sort it out immediately. Remember, you are getting married soon," she advised and they both nodded.
Immediately his mother was out of sight for some seconds, Victoria faced Augustine again. This time with a more angry look at him.
"What is the meaning of all these, Augustine? Can you explain to me?" She blurted out. She resided her voice slightly but she made sure that she didn't go out of proportion.
"Can you please lower your voice. My parents will begin to suspect that something is wrong someehre and they will question me. I do not want that," he pleaded with Victoria.
But, Victoria was not having it. She placed her hands on her waist, hitting the floor with her legs in anger.
"That is none of my business. I am only being this calm because your parents are here. You never told me that what happened now was going to happen. Did you?" she asked.
"I know I didn't. I'm sorry about that. But, it would be best if you pretend to be my financee. Everything has already happened, just play along," he suggested and Victoria burst into a loud laughter, clapping her hands together.
The loud noise from her clap almost attracted Augustine's parents but they distracted them by saying nothing was going on me that they were only talking.
"I won't," she responded and Augustine held his head with his hand. He hated the attitude that Victoria was beginning to display.
"Please. I know I was wrong at first. But, just do this for me. I'm pleading with you."
Augustine kept on pleading with Victoria and his eyes showed that he was serious about everything but that was not enough for Victoria.
She needed more than mere words from him.
"And why should I do that? You can't just do something and expect me to play along with it. I am not a dummy or do you take me as one?" she asked him, not allowing him to have any breathing space.
"I do not. I won't even do that. Okay, the reason for all these is that I was cheated on by my ex-fiancee and my elder brother. I couldn't come to the wedding alone," he explained to her.
His words struck a chord in her but, she pretended to not show any pity.
"You even had an ex-fiancee? But, how does all of these got to do with me now?" she asked him.
"Like, I said, I have gone through hard times in the hands of people. You, pretending to be my financee is something that is going to end soon. I just need to get myself. Please, do this for me," he pleaded.
There was a brief silence between the both of them as Victoria began to process his words.
"It won't hurt playing along. His face looked mashed up already because of how long he has been pleading. I guess I will just give in," she said within herself.
"Fine! I will do that. I will pretend that we are together and about to get married. But, please. I will hold you to your words."
