Chapter 5 Five

Jessica's POV

I woke up to the sound of my stomach growling angrily. My whole body felt sore, and my head was heavy, like I'd cried too much the night before-which I had. Blinking a few times, I wiped the crust from my eyes and slowly sat up, my limbs protesting with every movement. The room was quiet, except for my breathing, and a dull ache settled in my chest as I remembered everything.

I turned to the mirror across the room, dragging myself toward it. My reflection was a mess. My hair was tangled, my face dirty, and my eyes swollen from crying. I looked... lifeless. Like a shell of myself.

With a heavy sigh, I grabbed my phone and checked the time. 1:07 PM. I slept through half the day. Not that it mattered, it's not like I had anywhere to be. My stomach growled again, this time louder, reminding me of my hunger.

I forced myself to get up and find some fresh clothes before stepping into the bathroom. The warm water felt like a small mercy, washing away the tears and exhaustion clinging to me. I took my time, letting the steam clear my mind, and when I stepped out, I felt... a little better. Not great, but presentable. I combed my hair and tied it into a loose ponytail before glancing at the mirror again. I still looked tired, but at least I didn't look like a ghost anymore.

Then, a knock on the door made me freeze.

I turned quickly, hearing the sound of keys rattling, followed by a soft click. My breath hitched as the door creaked open, but instead of Raymond, the head chef walked in, carrying a tray of food.

"Good afternoon, ma'am," he said politely, placing the meal on the table. "Today, we have pan-seared salmon with a lemon butter sauce, accompanied by-"

I held up my hand to stop him, a small smile playing on my lips. "You don't have to give me the full history. I believe you. It smells amazing."

The chef chuckled, bowing slightly. "As you wish."

Before he could leave, I hesitated, then quickly asked, "Wait... is Raymond around?"

He shook his head. "He left for work this morning, ma'am. He should return later in the evening."

I let out a breath I didn't even realize I was holding and smiled, genuinely this time. "Thank you."

He nodded, but before he turned to leave, I added, "By the way... the food yesterday was delicious. I actually went to a cooking school and graduated."

The chef looked surprised before breaking into a warm smile. "Then I should be careful. You might take my job."

I chuckled. "No, no. I could never. But really, thank you."

He bowed before stepping out and locking the door behind him. I groaned, the reality of my situation settling back in.

I turned to my meal, my stomach making sure I didn't waste any more time. The aroma was too good to resist. I sat down and dug in, savoring the rich flavors. If there was one good thing about this place, it was the food.

Once I finished, I placed the empty plate aside and climbed onto the bed. My fingers hovered over my phone screen before I found myself dialing Timothy's number.

It rang twice before he answered.

"Jessica?!" His voice came out rushed, panicked. "Oh my God, where have you been?! I've been losing my mind!"

"Timothy, calm down," I said, rubbing my temple. "I-"

"Calm down? You disappeared! Your phone was off for hours! I called your parents, but they refused to tell me anything. Then I saw the news-Jessica, what the hell is going on?!"

I swallowed, my throat suddenly dry. I could feel the tears threatening to return, but I held them back. "They sold me, Tim," I whispered. "My parents... they sold me off to Raymond. He bought me like I was some object."

There was silence from the other side, then Timothy's voice, low and dangerous. "They did what?"

I swallowed hard. "I'm trapped here. He treats me like I'm nothing, locking me in a room like some prisoner. I don't know what to do, Tim..."

His breathing was heavy, filled with restrained rage. "I swear to God, I'll sue them. I'll ruin them for this!"

I shook my head, even though he couldn't see me. "Don't waste your time on them. Just... move on, Tim. There's nothing you can do."

"The hell there isn't," he snapped. "I'm not giving up on you, Jessica. I'll find a way to get you out of there. I promise."

My heart clenched at the determination in his voice.

I nodded, even though my throat felt tight. "Okay."

After ending the call, I saw a few missed calls from Sonya and decided to call her back.

The moment she answered, she yelled, "What did you do to get married to a billionaire overnight?! And why was I not invited to the wedding?!"

I let out a bitter laugh. "Sonya, it wasn't a wedding. It was a business transaction. My parents sold me off."

I proceeded to tell her everything that had happened ever since I came here.

Sonya was silent. "Those sick bastards!" Her voice was full of rage. "I swear, Jess, if I ever see them, I'll slap them into next week! And don't even get me started on that demon you're married to!"

Her words made me laugh for the first time in days. "You always know how to make things entertaining."

"Of course, I do. But seriously, I'm with Timothy on this. We're getting you out of there."

I smiled weakly. "Thanks, Sonya."

We talked for a while before ending the call. With nothing else to do, I scrolled through social media, trying to distract myself. Hours passed, and at 4 PM, I heard heavy footsteps.

I knew who it was.

The lock clicked, and Raymond's cold voice followed. "Get ready and come downstairs."

Then, silence.

I frowned, confused. Where were we going? But I knew better than to disobey.

I found a beautiful gown in the closet-a deep red that hugged my figure perfectly. I slipped it on, checking myself in the mirror. For the first time in days, I actually looked good.

Grabbing a small bag to match, I left my room and made my way downstairs.

Raymond stood in the living room, dressed in a luxurious black tuxedo, his tie sharp, his watch gleaming under the light. He looked powerful and untouchable.

His cold eyes met mine before he pointed at the table. "Wear it."

I raised an eyebrow and walked over, opening the box. Inside was a diamond necklace, shining brilliantly. My breath hitched. It was beautiful.

I glanced at him, but his face was unreadable. He looked... annoyed, like he was waiting for me to put it on.

So, I wore the necklace around my neck and turned back to him.

Raymond's gaze inspected me before he turned away. "Let's go."

Without another word, I followed him outside.

A black limousine was waiting. The driver opened the door, and I hesitated for a moment before stepping inside.

For the first time since arriving here... I was leaving.

But something told me this wasn't freedom, it was just another cage.
