Chapter 6 6

Devon didn't know if he should be amused or worried at her "condition", she was his mate, but she was also a rogue. His eyes darted over her body, before it rested on her face and he smiled.

"Is that all you want?" Surprise flickered through Kiara's eyes but she immediately covered it up, and gave a nonchalant shrug.

"It is all you can offer."

Devon raised a brow, undecided on if he should take offense or not. He tried to say something to her but was cut off by Luka's message. The playful glint in him vanished and was replaced with fury, and Kiara swallowed and backed away slowly.

"I want you to stay right here and do not move till I come back, is that clear?" he spoke with his alpha voice, and ordinarily Kiara would be forced to succumb to it, but her rogue status and her position as his mate lessened the effect of his voice tremendously, but she nodded because she was afraid of the dark look in his eyes.

Once he confirmed her agreement, Devon raced out of the hospital. Rogues, a lot of them have surrounded his borders and were fighting his soldiers. He suspected that the lady he now knows as his mate and kept in his pack has something to do with it, and he was going to question her once he was done with the savage beasts outside. None of the rogues have come in a group before her appearance.

Dragging two of the rogues by their necks, he flung them to nearby trees and the satisfying sound of their backs snapping filled his ears and terrified the rest of them, resulting in a pause of the ongoing fight.

"I am going to give you people one chance to give me a perfectly reasonable explanation why you have been attacking my pack borders for months now."

Rogues have no leader, so his eyes searched the crowd for someone to pick out and have him explain what was going on. Finally, his eyes met with one and he pointed at him, "speak." A whine left the appointed Wolf's throat and he looked to the rest of his team for help, but they all cowered and moved back, leaving him all alone in the limelight.

"We don't answer to you," he said after moments of deliberation, "therefore, you can't force us to speak." The wolves that were cowering behind him suddenly sprang up, strong and proud on all fours, and in unison they howled.

A sinister smile appeared on Devon's face, Luka made to join him but he raised his hand, stopping him in his tracks. "It's been a while since I had fun, all 35 of them will be a good warm up for my bones."

Without warning the wolves jumped on him, aiming for his neck, but he casually flung them to the trees one after the other, and the sounds of them breaking their backs filled the air, creating a perfect rhythm for a song. Devon bobbed his head to the sounds as he flung wolf after wolf, and disappointment filled his bones when he realized that in a matter of minutes, they were all lying all the floor unable to stand to their feet. He expected them to heal faster, they've been in the wild for long after all, but they were disappointing.

"That was disappointing, don't you think so?" he asked, eyes firmly pressed on the last rogue who didn't jump on him.

"I will answer your questions!" the rogue blurted out and Devon arched a brow, "I will tell you everything I know, so please don't hurt me."

His eyes narrowed suspiciously as he studied the rogue. "What do you know?"

Laying on his tummy as a sign of surrender, he began to speak. "I do not know the reason behind the attacks that has been happening. This is my first time coming here and it is because of the scent."

Devon and Luka exchanged glances. "What scent?"

"It smells like one of us, but it is sweet and endearing, almost like it is beckoning on us, and it is irresistible, maddening even. I believe more rogues around are going to make their way over here soon because the scent is still lingering and it is the strongest here. We just want to find the source and be around it."

"When did you first pick up on this scent?"

"Yesterday."

"If you are lying to me, I will not hesitate to have your head."

"I swear I am honest."

Turning away from him, Devon turned to speak to Luka, when a howl suddenly filled the air causing goosebumps to erupt on Devon's arms, and when he turned, the rogue wolf was now in the position of a predator ready to pounce on his prey, his red eyes fixed on something behind me. Saliva dripped from his mouth, and he began taking small predatory steps towards Devon.

The wolves that were on the floor from broken bones suddenly snapped up and took predatory stances as well, and that was when the scent hit Devon's nose as well and he froze.

She had defied his orders.

"Make sure she doesn't come here; I will keep them off." He ordered Luka while taking off his shirt to shift. He needed to take care of them in his wolf form.

"Yes, Alpha." Luka turned to the soldiers, who were also on guard and ready to pounce, "give the alpha all the support you can."

"For what? Is he fighting a war?"

The hairs on Devon's body stood at the sound of her voice, and the second he turned to confirm it was her, the rogue wolves took off and in unison they all jumped on Kiara, pushing her down.

An alarm went off in both Devon and Luka's head, and they both tried to jump in and tear them off her body, but a giggle from the hurdle of wolves stopped them in their tracks.

Kiara managed to bring her head up for air, and that was they registered what was happening. The wolves weren't attacking her, they were each trying to get a taste of her – like dogs, the rogue wolves were licking her.
