Chapter 4 I Came Back For Revenge

Three years had unfolded, marking the grand birthday festivity for Larry Roberts, the single heir to the formidable Roberts Group enterprise.

The event was nothing short of luxurious, befitting the future leader of a major corporate dynasty, bathed in vibrant colored lights that streamed down from above.

At this moment, the entrance saw an entrancing figure drawing the gaze of many attendees.

Accompanied by Cayden Higgins, Corinna entered the banquet hall, captivating onlookers in her stunning red dress and hair flowing in elegant waves down to her waist. Her piercing, frosty eyes radiated an allure that was at once inviting and distant.

Her beauty hit like a lightning bolt-so fierce it pulled people closer even as it made them want to run.

Corinna navigated through the room under the watchful eyes of the guests, eventually lifting her glass in a subtle toast to her companion.

"Thanks, Cayden," she murmured gratefully.

Cayden was the one who rescued her from the devastating blaze three years ago.

Corinna had almost given up, yet the image of her son Larry still in the clutches of that vicious woman Brinley spurred her to fight for her life.

With a future unleashed from her past, Cayden had facilitated a transformation through a renowned plastic surgeon. The result was a completely renewed Corinna.

Although she made it through the fire, the ordeal stripped her of her emotions, save for an intense yearning to reclaim her son.

Her resolve was clear: she would take her son Larry from Brenden's grip.

As they stood together, Cayden observed the profound changes in Corinna, recognizing both the new and the familiar in her. He smiled gently, his voice low. "No need for thanks between us."

Corinna's grip on her wine glass tightened as she reflected on her motivations. "I returned for vengeance," she said, her voice tinged with resolve.

She was conscious of the deep affection Cayden held for her; however, the fires of love within her had been quenched, leaving behind only the cold ashes of hatred.

Cayden offered a melancholic smile, fully aware of her mindset but nonetheless prepared to offer her his unconditional support.

"Whatever your plans, count on my help."

Under the scrutiny of many onlookers, Corinna contained her feelings, tightened her lips slightly, and said, "This evening is expected to be memorable. I'm going to refresh my makeup. Enjoy yourself in the meantime, and wait for my return."

"Agreed."

...

Beside the restroom, a boy was deeply engaged with a Rubik's Cube.

His suit was exquisitely tailored, a testament to the skills of a high-end tailor, fitting him perfectly.

At first sight, Corinna instantly recognized him.

"Larry..." she murmured.

For the past three years, she had murmured his name in her dreams over and over. Now, as he stood before her, she found herself unexpectedly speechless.

Larry's eyes widened as he looked up, his gaze meeting Corinna's as she called his name.

Corinna held back her feelings and walked over to him. "Why are you sitting here alone?"

He glanced down at the Rubik's Cube in his hands, his silence speaking volumes to Corinna.

"Do you need some help with that?" she asked softly.

Larry looked up with a mix of hope and skepticism and then handed her the cube.

Corinna quickly adjusted the colors, aligning each side uniformly, and handed it back as Larry watched in awe.

"See? It's all matched up now. Remember how it's done for next time, okay?"

Larry beamed a grateful smile. "Thank you," he said, clutching the Rubik's Cube and twisting it again.

Corinna's gaze softened as she observed the boy next to her, her hand hidden at her side shaking from a torrent of suppressed emotions.

A flood of maternal longing overwhelmed her suddenly.

Yet, even as his mother, she could not embrace him just yet.

In her heart, she whispered longingly, "Larry, my precious boy, I've missed you so much."

"Larry."

The chilling tone of a man's voice cut through the moment, making both her and the boy startle.

That unmistakable voice...
