If you ever play this game with him, I'm just afraid the game might never be over until we all go down to six feet. Stop this drama already, I have had enough." Mr Green bit out, his voice laced with frustration.
"When did you suddenly become Mia's guardian angel?" Mrs Layla asked, tilting her head up, confusion flickering across her face.
"I'm not protecting her, it's not about her, it's about my business, it's also about what Mr. Alex wants, we cannot afford to anger him.
I know we don't like Mia, but in a time like this, you better not let your emotions take a better part of you, because nothing...! must happen to Mia" Mr Green declared, his voice low and venomous.
"But..." Mila tried to say something but was interrupted.
" No but!" he shouted, retreating to the exit door, not giving them a chance to say anything further.
At exactly 5 am Mia sneaked out of her bed, not even a single floorboard cracked, as she glided across the room. She began to prepare for her journey, by the time she was ready to leave, it was 6 am, and everybody was still asleep.
The entire house was quiet, the usual creaks and hums of the house were all gone, leaving an unnatural stillness in every corner.
She gently carried her bag and crept down the stairs, she moved with practiced ease, each step as light as a whisper, she carefully pushed the door, wincing as the hinges cracked softly.
Immediately she stepped outside, closed her eyes and gently let out a sigh of relief. "Mia...you can do this." She said, her eyes scanning her environment as she tried to remain unnoticed.
Her heart pounded like a war drum as she tore through the road, scared that she might be caught, she ran without looking back, fear crawling at her throat.
Her legs burned but she didn't dare slow down.
She finally saw a cab after running a long distance. " Lexington airport please!" She said, her chest tightening, her breath coming in quick with uneven bursts.
"20 dollars." The cab man replied, scanning her demeanor.
"Let's go," Mia said with a shaky voice, her entire body trembling.
40 mins later, the cab pulled up in front of the airport, she gave the driver his money and grabbed her bag, moving quickly but not too swiftly, just enough to look like every other hurried traveler.
She quickly checked in, received her boarding pass and checked her luggage. And immediately went for security screening.
The security line felt endless, every touch from the scanner sending jolts of panic through her, she swallowed hard as the office was scrutinizing her. "Why is it taking too long? Does anything seem off?" She mumbled within herself, frowning, her brows knitting together.
Once cleared she grabbed her bag and darted to the departure area, her heartbeat pounding in her ears, as she checked the departure screen for her gate number and other updates.
"Mia you're almost there." She whispered to herself, holding her chest, as she followed the airport sign to the gate, to wait in the boarding area.
"The first class, business class, and priority customers will board flight NY214 from Lexington International Airport to Westwood City Airport first.
Those in groups 1 and 2 may now proceed to gate 5. General boarding will start soon, so please have your ID and boarding card ready. Thank you for selecting Skyline Airways." A voice announced over the airport's public address system.
Mia moved swiftly to gate 5, shoving past people without a second glance, her grip tightening on her bag, the gate was in sight, but every step felt heavier.
Confirmed, she finally felt relieved a bit, a voice cracked over the airport speaker and her eyes twitched in fear. "Couldn't it be that..." she was trying to say something to herself when the final boarding announcement came in.
She exhaled a breath of relief closing her eyes with her head tilted up as if trying to say a prayer. She opened her eyes and took in her environment, then darted to the jet bridge.
With every step she felt freedom, but so was the fear that someone might stop her and drag her back. She finally got onto the plane, slipped into a seat and fastened her seat belt.
It was exactly five minutes before the plane would arrive, and an airline staff approached her and said "Miss Green Mia, we have a concern about your flight with us this morning, please ma, can you step down for scrutinizing."
Mia's heart sank inside her tummy, her mouth twitched and her eyes widened in shock, could it be that what she feared most had finally caught up with her?
"Ma'am! Hope there is a problem. I have carefully done everything I'm supposed to do, how come my flight has been delayed?" She asked, her eyes flickering in confusion.
"Please follow me to the terminal house, you will find out when we get there." The staff said firmly and started retreating to the door.
Mia sluggishly followed her, her heart heavy and her breath came shallow and unsteady. "God please..." she whispered as unease settled deep inside her.
Once she stepped into the terminal house, she scanned the place and her eye met with Mr Green's, she halted in her steps, her legs locked up refusing to move, and her breath punched out of her lungs as if she had been hit.
"Come on in!" Staff called out, and she snapped back to reality, taking a few steps to cover up the gap between her and the check-in counter where her father was.
Mr Green was grinning widely at her, with his hands in this pocket, not uttering a word.
"Miss Mia, a report came to us that you're trying to elope with someone's money, is it true or false? " An airport attendant asked her.
