Slowly, her tears fell, which gradually became more and more profuse. However, her lips were still tightly sealed without letting out a sob, as if the tears were falling without her will.
Today's sunny weather seemed to mock her, laughing at her who was hurting and would never be able to be happy again. There would never be another sunny day like today's clear sky.
The patient beside Kiara's gurney was an old woman.
She looked at her sadly and slowly walked over to her and sat by her side, taking her hand and holding it tightly. "Cry out loud, don't hold it in like this. Your heart will hurt."
Kiara didn't care.
"Good girl, cry if you want to cry. But not for too long. You have to think about your condition and that of your child," the old woman continued lovingly.
Kiara's eyes moved slowly, and she was so stunned that it was difficult to swallow her saliva.
It made it difficult for her to breathe, and she squeezed the blanket she was wearing tightly.
"Calm down. You can't be like this. Think of your child." The old woman became frantic and rubbed Kiara's chest lightly, trying to get her to breathe calmly. "It must have hurt a lot. I know. But you have to fight that pain in order to survive for a beautiful future. If not for yourself, at least for your child."
"My child?" Kiara asked in a stifled voice as her breathing was still labored. "This child is not my child."
The old woman gave her a sad look and then looked down, taking Kiara's hand and placing it on her own stomach. "But in here is a new life that has hope for the future."
"You may not want it, but he loved you so much that he chose you as his mother. Because he knows that you are capable and will definitely give him the best."
Kiara was stunned.
With a stiff movement, she shifted her gaze to her stomach. Her lips trembled, and her tears fell again. "Love me? But... I don't want him at all, how can I possibly give him the best?"
"You know what? Because of this baby, my already shattered life is even more shapeless. I don't want him." Then she looked desperately at the old woman in front of her. "Can you take him away from me? I don't want him."
"If there was no him, perhaps I could still restore my shattered life. If it's like this, how is it different from me dying? I don't want to. He's making my life worse."
"How could this baby come so quickly when I wasn't expecting him? I didn't do it in earnest. It was a disaster! I was framed! How could I get pregnant just because of that one horrible night?" Kiara became hysterical.
"What am I supposed to do if I let him live? I didn't expect him and don't want to take care of him! It'll only make me worse! Take this baby away from me! I don't want him! Why does all this have to happen to me?" Kiara was beating her stomach and occasionally reaching out, trying to grab something that was in there.
Seeing her like this naturally made the old woman cry.
She grabbed Kiara's hand as she shook her head, and hugged her tightly. "You can't talk like that. Your son can hear it."
"Let him hear everything. That's better! He must know that I don't want his presence. That way, he can leave!" shouted Kiara rebelliously.
But the older woman's strength seemed to be very strong. She held Kiara tightly and said, "No. He can't go. He has to see how beautiful the world is."
"You've got him, so you must take good care of him. This is a blessing. You must think of it as a new step towards a beautiful life. Perhaps this baby will be the light in the darkness of your path," she continued softly.
Kiara was silent for an instant.
Her mind began to calm down as the tears stopped flowing.
Blessing?
A new step towards a beautiful life?
Was all of that true?
This baby... was this baby really here to encourage her when she lost her way like this?
"Believe me, you will be happy someday." Then, the older woman released her embrace and wiped away the traces of tears on Kiara's pale face. "Accept this baby and live a good life."
"Can I?" Kiara asked softly.
"Of course you can. You are a great woman. You can definitely be a good mother to this baby," replied the old woman, smiling warmly.
Kiara looked at her closely. A layer of doubt was visible in her eyes. "But I don't have anything."
"I have lived alone for a long time. My children are married and live far away. What if you come with me? We can raise this baby together," the old woman said enthusiastically.
"My house is simple, but at least it can serve as a place for you to stay while you recover," she continued.
"How about it? Do you want to?"
Kiara was silent for a long time, and in the end, she nodded slowly. "Thank you."
The older woman smiled broadly and stroked Kiara's hair gently. "I will accompany and assist you in taking care of this child. Now rest so you can recover quickly."
After adjusting Kiara's blanket, she stood up and walked slowly out of the room into a quiet hallway.
Once there, she pulled out a cell phone from her pocket that had been connected to someone's call.
"They're having a wedding in a few days. Make sure she sees it," said the person on the other end of the line in her distinctive stern voice.
"Yes, ma'am. I understand," the old woman replied obediently.
"Take care of her for me and keep me informed of what happens! Grace, those children must be born safely!" she ordered.
