Chapter 2 How Dare She

"I don't know if he's still simping for her," Cathy paused for a moment, "but he definitely wants a divorce."

"Then divorce him!" Amy agreed wholeheartedly. "You've taken care of him for three years, and the moment his first love comes back, he kicks you aside? Why keep a man like that around?"

A divorce?

But it would cost her dearly.

-

Cathy knew she would run into Angela sooner or later-she just hadn't expected it to be so soon.

After parking in the company garage, she stepped out of her car and immediately spotted Angela emerging from a chauffeured vehicle.

Angela was beautiful, with the soft elegance of a Jiangnan woman-delicate brows, liquid eyes, exuding a quiet grace that stirred a man's protective instincts.

No wonder Lucas had never let go of her.

Seeing Cathy, Angela took the initiative to approach her, speaking gently, "Mrs. Green, long time no see."

Cathy gave her a calm, unreadable glance. Truth be told, they barely knew each other.

With a slight nod, she walked toward the elevator.

Angela followed. "From now on, I hope Mrs. Green can guide me at work."

Cathy's hand hesitated slightly as she pressed the elevator button. "If I remember correctly, Star Media hasn't signed a domestic contract with you yet, Miss Angela."

Angela looked surprised. "Lucas helped terminate my old contract. I'm now fully signed with Star Media. He didn't tell you?"

Star Media was one of Lucas's businesses.

Three years ago, when he was in a coma, the Wilson family patriarch had handed its management over to Cathy.

She had served as vice president ever since.

Yet, as the VP, she knew nothing about this deal.

Noticing Cathy's momentary pause, Angela looked a little embarrassed. "Maybe Lucas was worried I'd continue being suppressed by my former agency. He rushed to pay my termination fees with his personal account, so perhaps that's why Mrs. Green wasn't informed."

Officially, Cathy was the vice president of Star Media.

Privately, she was Lucas's wife.

And yet, she had no idea that her company had signed Angela-or that her husband had personally spent a fortune to free his first love.

Expressionless, Cathy simply replied, "Since you've joined Star Media, work hard. Resources are limited-earn them with your own merit."

Inside the elevator, it was just the two of them.

Angela's eyes reddened slightly. "I have no merit. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been forced to leave the country three years ago."

That wasn't the version Cathy had heard.

But did the truth even matter?

Angela was back now.

And she had joined Star Media.

That said everything about Lucas's stance.

Through the elevator's reflective surface, Cathy glanced at Angela's tear-filled eyes.

"There's no need to explain to me," she said indifferently. "Go talk to someone who actually believes you."

The elevator doors opened on the 24th floor-home to Star Media's executive offices, under the Wilson family's empire.

To Cathy's surprise, Lucas was standing outside, waiting.

Clearly, not for her.

As Angela stepped out, she "accidentally" bumped into Cathy's shoulder.

Cathy stumbled slightly.

Angela's face lit up with joy. "Lucas! What are you doing at the company?"

Unlike the cold distance he showed Cathy, Lucas was noticeably gentle with Angela.

It was strange-Cathy had never thought she would use the word gentle to describe Lucas.

For years, he had been nothing but cruel.

Especially to her.

Lucas's voice was calm. "It's your first day at the company. I came to check on you."

Angela smiled through misty eyes. "I'm not a child. Who needs someone to accompany them on their first day at work?"

Seeing her reddened eyes, Lucas's voice turned icy. "I just don't want you to be bullied."

So, he was capable of caring for someone like this.

Cathy reined in her emotions and stepped out of the elevator, addressing him respectfully. "President Wilson."

Lucas barely spared her a glance. "You'll personally oversee Angela from now on."

Cathy was caught off guard. "President Wilson, I don't specialize in talent management."

Lucas's patience was thin. His tone dropped a few degrees colder. "No need to. Just give her all the best resources."

With that, he didn't even wait for her response before leading Angela away.

As they walked off, Cathy overheard their conversation.

"She's not experienced in this field," Lucas said, "but she has connections and resources."

"I'm afraid Mrs. Green might be upset about this," Angela murmured.

Lucas's voice was indifferent.

"How dare she?"
