Chapter 2 The Old House on Elm street

Chapter Two: The Old House on Elm Street

As the taxi turned onto Elm Street, Emily's heart skipped a beat. Her grandmother's old Victorian house loomed before her, its once-vibrant facade now weathered to a soft, silvery gray. The windows, once bright and cheerful, now seemed dull and empty, like the eyes of a forgotten doll.

Emily felt a shiver run down her spine as Jack pulled up to the curb. "Here we are, kiddo," he said, his voice low and gentle.

Emily smiled, her eyes never leaving the house. "Thanks, Jack. I'll take it from here."

As she stepped out of the taxi, the salty sea air enveloped her once more, carrying with it the whispers of memories past. Emily breathed deeply, feeling the weight of her grandmother's legacy settle upon her shoulders.

She gazed up at the house, her eyes tracing the intricate patterns of the Victorian architecture. The house seemed to loom over her, its secrets and stories hidden behind the faded facade.

With a sense of trepidation, Emily reached into her purse and pulled out the old house key. It felt cool and heavy in her hand, a tangible connection to her grandmother and the past.

As she approached the front door, Emily noticed something odd. The door was slightly ajar, as if someone had recently passed through it. A shiver ran down her spine. She was certain she'd locked the door before leaving for the train station.

With a sense of unease, Emily pushed open the door and stepped inside. The interior of the house was musty and dark, the air thick with the scent of decay. Emily fumbled for the light switch, her fingers closing around it like a lifeline.

As the lights flickered to life, Emily's eyes adjusted to the dim interior. She saw that the house was exactly as she'd left it, the furniture shrouded in dust covers, the walls adorned with faded family portraits.

But something felt off.

Emily's instincts screamed that someone had been in the house, someone who didn't want to be seen. She felt a presence lurking just out of sight, watching her every move.

With a sense of growing unease, Emily began to explore the house, her footsteps echoing through the empty halls. She was determined to uncover the secrets hidden within these walls, secrets that only her grandmother's old house could reveal.
