Ross took the glass of wine Rex handed him and downed it in one go, smirking, "From a distance, everyone looks kindhearted."
Rex, "..."
Ross handed the empty glass back to Rex, patted him on the shoulder, and leaned in close. "You're worried that I'll compete with you for The Moore family's CEO position, aren't you? Relax..."
Ross paused for a few seconds before lowering his voice and adding, "Because I absolutely will."
Rex kept his gentlemanly smile. "Ross, you've misunderstood me. If you want to be the CEO of The Moore family, I won't compete with you."
Ross straightened up and took a step back, his smile reckless and unrestrained. "Perfect. I do want it. So, dear brother, please go tell Grandpa. I'm sure he'll agree."
The hand holding the empty glass tightened abruptly, and the warm smile on Rex's face nearly cracked.
Ross scoffed lightly. "Big brother, drop the fake humility when you're in front of me."
With that, he turned and strode upstairs.
The moment Ross left, the smile on Rex's face vanished.
In the corner, Ada had been watching them. Seeing Ross go upstairs, she rushed over and stopped in front of Rex. "Brother, what did that Ross say to you again? Your face looks like you're about to explode."
Rex irritably tugged at his tie. "He said he wants to be the CEO of The Moore family."
Ada gasped. "Is he insane? He told you that directly?"
Rex, "And from the way he spoke, he knows exactly that you and Mom got Alsa drunk on purpose."
Ada pouted indifferently. "So what if he knows? Mom just wanted to set up that Alsa so she'd stop clinging to you. Who would have thought-"
Halfway through her sentence, Ada suddenly realized something and clamped a hand over her mouth.
Rex's face turned completely cold. "What did you just say?"
Ada, "I didn't say anything! It's late, I'm going to bed."
She turned to leave, but Rex extended an arm and pulled her back, lowering his voice dangerously. "Repeat what you just said."
Ada was afraid of Rex.
She knew Ross's ruthlessness was out in the open, direct and straightforward. But Rex was different-he was a true schemer, someone who kept everything buried deep. Even as his biological sister, she found him intimidating.
Ada swallowed hard, mumbling, "Well... that Alsa likes you, doesn't she? Mom was worried she might affect your future marriage alliance, so she deliberately set her up."
After speaking, she yanked her hand free from Rex's grip and rubbed her wrist, which had been squeezed red. "Mom only planned to set her up, but who knew she'd go into the wrong room and end up in Ross's bed instead-"
Rex, "Get out!"
Ada froze for a second, looking at Rex in disbelief.
Rex gritted his teeth. "I said, get out!"
Frightened, Ada shrank back and hurried away.
Meanwhile, Ross returned to his room, shrugged off his jacket, and tossed it aside before sinking into the couch.
Hearing the sound of the shower running from the bathroom, his sharp eyes narrowed slightly, lost in thought.
