Chapter 4 The So-Called Wild Man Is Here

Climbing Up the Social Ladder?

Angela sneered inwardly. Ultimately, Alex still looked down on her because she was an adopted daughter.

Ever since Daisy came back, he had been subtly belittling and suppressing her.

Making it clear:

She should be grateful that he even considered her.

Being engaged to him was a blessing she had earned over multiple lifetimes. She had no right to be picky; instead, she should be doing everything she could to please him.

Daisy bit her lip and fanned the flames further. "Sister, you shouldn't be unclear with another man just because you and Brother Alex had a disagreement. This... this isn't right. If Mom and Dad find out, they'll be upset."

Angela was so provoked by her words that she chuckled. "Mom and Dad will be upset? But you must be quite pleased, right?"

"I..."

Daisy was stunned.

Since returning to her biological family, she hadn't had much contact with Angela. Perhaps because Angela was adopted and not favored in the Moore family, Daisy assumed she was easy to bully.

She never expected Angela to talk back.

Daisy's face turned pale, looking rather pitiful.

"What's going on?"

In the midst of their argument, James and Maria arrived.

Maria, noticing Daisy's red-rimmed eyes, immediately asked what had happened.

"Angela misunderstood my relationship with Brother Alex and wants to break off the engagement. I was just trying to talk some sense into her," Daisy said, looking aggrieved.

James and Maria appeared surprised, but inwardly, they were pleased.

Maria frowned. "Enough. If there's something to discuss, do it back in the private room. This isn't the place-people are watching."

Other hotel guests had already begun to stop and observe.

"I'm not going back. I've lost my appetite. I'll just head home."

Angela's leg was in pain, and her head throbbed.

She tried to leave, but Alex blocked her way again. His grip on her arm was tight, causing her pain.

"Angela, you think you can just call off the engagement whenever you want? What do you take me for?"

"Let go!" Angela's delicate brows furrowed.

"So, you've already found someone else? How far have things gone between you and that wild man?"

"You're disgusting-don't assume everyone is as filthy as you!"

"What did you just say?"

Alex had never seen Angela like this before, momentarily stunned.

Because she was adopted, she had always been gentle and composed, rarely arguing with anyone. He had forgotten that, deep down, Angela was proud.

He could have had plenty of women throwing themselves at him, but he found that boring.

Angela, however, wouldn't let him touch her, wouldn't let him get close-but he had tolerated it.

Yet, over time, his patience had worn thin.

People in their circle had even mocked him: "Mr. Rogers, are you sure you're even a man? You've been engaged for so long and still haven't taken her?"

The rumors said Angela was too proud for her own good. But in today's world, power and money ruled. Pride and dignity were worthless.

Angela forcefully shook off his grip. "Don't touch me. You disgust me."

Alex snapped back to reality, rage flaring in his eyes.

More and more onlookers gathered.

Being called disgusting by a woman in public-his ego couldn't take it.

James and Maria could guess that something had happened between their biological daughter and Alex. If others started thinking the same, Daisy might be seen as a homewrecker.

They absolutely couldn't let that happen.

Their real daughter must marry the man she loves with dignity and honor!

Alex sneered, his anger making him lose control. "I'm disgusting? And you? Messing around with other men-isn't that filthy?"

Maria quickly grabbed Angela before she could respond. "Angela, this is your fault to begin with. Just stop talking. Haven't you embarrassed yourself enough?"

Angela was smart enough to understand what Maria meant.

Her adoptive parents wanted Daisy to step over her to rise up.

They didn't care if it ruined Angela's reputation and made her a public disgrace.

She had always held on to hope-that after twenty years together, her adoptive parents must have some feelings for her.

But now, she laughed.

She had been foolish.

"You still have the nerve to laugh! Alex is still your fiancé! You completely disregarded his feelings by getting involved with another man. That's bad enough, but when your sister kindly tried to talk to you, you refused to listen," Maria scolded.

James spoke coldly, "It seems we spoiled you too much. You've forgotten your place."

In other words:

You don't have the life of a wealthy heiress,

But you've developed the arrogance of one.

What wounds deeper than a blade?

The knife handed to you by those closest to you-one that cuts straight to the bone.

The murmuring of the crowd grew louder. Angela stood frozen, her blood running cold.

She let out a quiet chuckle. "Another man? Just because I picked up a men's coat?"

"We understand that you feel neglected because of Daisy, but if you want to call off the engagement, we can discuss it. There's no need to make a scene here," Maria frowned.

She worried that saying too much would lead to an uncontrollable mess.

"Mom is right, Sister, let's go back," Daisy reached for Angela's hand, pretending to be understanding.

Angela bit her lip. Her already pale face turned even whiter.

The moment Daisy touched her, Angela instinctively flung her away!

Daisy stumbled back, almost falling.

Maria hurriedly caught her, shocked that Angela dared to do such a thing. She glared at Angela before turning to Daisy with concern. "Are you alright? Did you twist your ankle? Are you hurt?"

"Mom, I'm fine," Daisy pursed her lips, looking wronged.

"Angela, have you caused enough trouble?" James roared. "Apologize to Daisy!"

Angela's right foot hurt terribly. Her lips had lost all color.

Yet, she stood tall, refusing to apologize.

"What? You think you can defy me now? I raised you, gave you food, clothes, the best teachers for your dance lessons. And now, because you've found a better prospect, you think you don't have to listen to me anymore?"

James' words were brutal.

Not only did he call her ungrateful, but he also implied she was indecent.

Meanwhile, he painted himself as a noble, selfless benefactor.

"Dad, Sister didn't mean to... There are a lot of people watching," Daisy tugged at James' sleeve.

"Good! Let them watch. Let everyone see that she's the one in the wrong," James declared.

Angela took a deep breath, about to speak-

Then, a voice rang out from behind.

"In a public setting, yelling like this-how cultured of you, President Moore."

The crowd turned toward the voice.

The man had deep, dark eyes, reflecting the light with a cold gleam. He was tall, and his mere presence was intimidating. His very being exuded indifference and authority.

"Mr. William!" James' face stiffened before quickly switching to a fawning smile. "What brings you here?"

"Because I am the man you were just talking about..."

"The other man."

His voice was low and indifferent.

Like an undercurrent in the deep sea-calm, yet chilling.

Behind him, John suddenly added, "Sir, that's not exactly how they put it."

"Hmm?"

"They called you a wild man."

"Oh?"

Frances' tone was slow, amused.

His gaze was light, unreadable-

But in that fleeting moment, it bore down on everyone, suffocating them.
