Chapter 5 The Little Wildcat

Rebecca smiled faintly. "Everyone has always treated me well. Otherwise, they wouldn't have given me the opportunity to marry Mr. Harody. I'm truly grateful."

Her response was flawless yet also a slap in the face for The Campbell Family.

Because they all knew the only reason Rebecca had been allowed to marry Alexander was that Nancy had outright refused.

When Nancy heard that Alexander had lost his sight in the car accident, she had put on quite the show-acting devastated-only to turn around and seduce Richard, the son of a real estate tycoon.

She had even orchestrated a one-night stand with him and arranged for photos to be leaked to the public, moving at a speed faster than a rocket launch.

It was only because Nancy rejected the marriage that Rebecca was chosen instead.

However, since they couldn't afford to break ties openly, The Campbell Family wasn't sure if Rebecca's words were genuine or laced with sarcasm.

Alexander chuckled. "I should indeed thank you all. After all, it was only because Rebecca came into my family that my vision was restored."

"Alexander..." Nancy grew increasingly frustrated-such a golden opportunity had slipped right through her fingers.

Had she known Alexander would recover so quickly, she would have never married Richard, that piece of trash!

"Nancy, the way you address me is inappropriate." Alexander's gaze turned cold as it swept over her.

"Come, let's eat, everyone," Nancy's father interjected, attempting to smooth things over.

"Rebecca, why don't you stay the night with Mr. Harody? We've prepared a room for you," Mrs. Campbell suggested with unusual enthusiasm, clearly harboring ulterior motives.

"Mrs. Campbell, no-" Rebecca was about to refuse.

"Sure, no problem. We'll stay the night," Alexander agreed without hesitation.

Rebecca glanced at him, surprised. His expression remained unreadable.

To be honest, she had no desire to stay in this house any longer. She would much rather return to The Harody Family.

But since Alexander had already made the decision, there was nothing she could do about it.

After dinner, Mrs. Campbell had the maids prepare a guest room, replacing the bedding with expensive new linens before leading them inside.

Alexander stepped in, surveying the room briefly.

"This isn't your room, is it?"

"No."

"I figured as much. They wouldn't have given you a room this nice."

"I'm used to it. It doesn't matter where I stay," Rebecca replied calmly.

Alexander sat on the large bed, his gaze fixed on Rebecca's delicate features. "You're sharp-tongued when you argue with me, yet you act so meek in front of The Campbell Family. That doesn't seem like someone who's willing to be mistreated. So tell me, Miss Rebecca, do you have a side of you that I don't know about? Or perhaps a secret?"

"Alexander, stop with the cryptic nonsense. Just say what you mean."

"Haha, I see. You act like a timid little rabbit in front of The Campbell Family, but with me, you turn into a little wildcat. And I must say, I prefer the wildcat."

His words were laced with teasing, making Rebecca's face flush again.

"I don't have time for your nonsense. Are you using the bathroom or not? I'm taking a shower."

Alexander said nothing but gestured for her to go ahead.

Rebecca turned and entered the bathroom, beginning to remove her makeup. She still wasn't used to dressing up so elaborately.

Sitting before the vanity in the walk-in closet attached to the bathroom, she removed her earrings while lost in thought.

She had spent four years in The Campbell Family, but she still hadn't found the pearl she was searching for.

Would Alexander be willing to help her?

After all, she had cured his blindness-he owed her his life.

But he was a deeply suspicious man, far harder to deal with than Justin.

How should she bring it up in a way that wouldn't make him suspicious or lead to outright rejection?

After finishing her shower, Rebecca suddenly realized a dilemma-she had no clothes to change into.

She had no choice but to wrap herself in a bathrobe and cautiously head back to her old room to find something to wear.

Unexpectedly, she ran into Justin at the door.

"What are you doing?" A familiar voice sounded behind her.

"I... I'm just looking for some clothes," she said, pointing to her old room.

Justin didn't respond but let his eyes roam over Rebecca.

Dressed in a bathrobe, her makeup removed, she was even more stunning.

Strangely enough, despite having lived under the same roof for four years, he had never truly noticed her.

But tonight, for the first time, he realized just how beautiful she was-far more so than any of the women he had been with over the years.

Especially now, standing before him in a white bathrobe, her damp hair cascading over her shoulders.

Her fresh, makeup-free face was breathtaking.

At that moment, Justin came to a realization-Rebecca had been deliberately concealing her beauty and avoiding him all these years.

Testing his theory, he took two steps closer.

As expected, Rebecca immediately retreated with caution.

"Rebecca, are you afraid of me?" Justin's voice turned low and magnetic, laced with allure.

His tone was completely different from how he had spoken to her before.

In fact, in four years, he had never once called her by her name.

"Not at all. You're overthinking it."

"Then why are you backing away?"

"I believe men and women should maintain proper boundaries. Besides, I'm already Alexander's wife. Mr. Campbell, you should be mindful of that."

"Rebecca, I was the one engaged to you." He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice.

"So what?" Rebecca nearly laughed.

"I was always against you marrying Alexander. The Campbell Family could have broken off the engagement, but you know my parents-they wouldn't dare offend The Harody Family. Surely, you understand my predicament?"

"I understand completely." Rebecca smiled, amused by his act.

"I didn't want you to marry someone else. And now that I see you like this... it's unbearable. Rebecca... you were meant to be my fiancée. I just want to protect you."

"Mr. Campbell, I suggest you stop talking. Your words are highly inappropriate. Where were you three days ago?"

Catching the defiant edge in her tone, Justin narrowed his eyes.

So, she had been pretending all along? The meek, obedient girl she had been for the past four years was nothing more than an act?

"Do you think that just because Alexander married you, you have a solid backing?"

"You're a woman with no education, no background, no family. Do you really think Alexander cares about you? Do you actually believe marrying him will make you a phoenix?"

"Funny. Whether my husband cares about me or not has nothing to do with you. Mr. Campbell, if you're suffering from delusions, I suggest you seek medical help." Rebecca retorted. "Performing here is pointless-I don't enjoy theater."

"Hah?" Justin, instead of being angry, was intrigued.

"Let me put it this way-if I wanted to do something to you right now, Alexander wouldn't care. Because to him, you're worthless."

As he spoke, he reached out, attempting to grab Rebecca's shoulder.

Just as Rebecca debated whether to fight back, a cold voice cut through the air behind them.

"Is that so? Who says I wouldn't care?"

The next second, Justin was yanked back by a strong grip and met with a brutal punch to the face.

Rebecca gasped in shock-Alexander?!

How long had he been standing there? How much had he heard?
