Chapter 3 A Life Left Behind

Nalisha

I woke up in a bed that wasn't mine. It took me a moment to remember where I was-the guest room of my aunt's house. The air smelled like lavender and old books, a far cry from the familiar scent of home. But reality dawned on me ,home was gone. The fact that i had not cried ,i still was in shock.

A knock on the door startled me. "Nalisha?Nalisha? Are you awake?" My aunt Mariam's voice was gentle, hesitant.

I cleared my throat. "Yeah."

She peeked inside. "I made breakfast, love. You should eat something, you're going to need the strength."

I wasn't hungry, but I nodded anyway. I needed to do something anything to keep from drowning in my own thoughts.

As I sat at the table, pushing food around my plate, my mind wandered back to the police station. My father's note. The unsolved mystery that had shattered my world.

But I needed a plan. A place to start. If my father had been onto something dangerous, there had to be a trail. So at that moment i swore ,no matter what i will uncover the truth. And I was going to follow each and every lead and trail no matter where it took me.
