Chapter 3 Billionaire mistress

The car tires screeched loudly as it came to a stop. Inches away from my side. It felt like even death wished to reject me too. I witnessed a man step out of the car. I could hardly get a proper vision of him and what he was saying, but all I noticed was his hands reaching out, as he held onto my hands, helping me back up.

"Who are you?" I managed a word from my staggering state as, in a blink, he led me inside his car, shutting the car door as he sat at the front seat. His gaze returned back to me with a weird smile. Somehow, in that moment, I felt, why not? But even so, I had little idea who he was, yet I was unable to do anything but glare.

Why did I have to drink so much?

He started his car engine, driving as we left the surroundings. I tried taking a proper seat, only to stumble down on the car seat. My eyes shut as darkness invaded.

A sharp light pierced in as I slowly opened my eyes back. A glance around the area revealed I was inside a building. Beside me was the stranger with his weird smile still finding its way onto his lips.

He led me up the stairs into a room I had no idea of.

"Now, rest," were the only words I heard him say, or was able to hear. Yet, his eyes still remained glued on me. My hand brushed his cheek, trying to feel and take in the figure of his face-something my blurred vision found hard to do.

In an instant, he leaned in for a tender kiss, pressing his lips on mine. My eyes fluttered closed, my body betraying me as they hummed for more.

As the night gave way for the morning dawn, exhausted and satiated, I woke up to an alarm buzz. I felt a sharp sting as I tried processing last night's incident. My eyes widened when I caught sight of a complete stranger laying on the bed beside me, half-naked.

"What happened? What did I do?" I muttered in a whisper, trying to process the whole situation that glared at me.

Really, how could I have slept with a stranger? Why did I have to drink so much last night?

A flinch from the man caused a jolt in me as I watched him yawn slightly, his eyes fluttering open as they met mine.

"You're awake," he smirked, standing up to his feet. His eyes showed no sign of remorse or regret.

I mean, I admit I was drunk last night, but he surely wasn't. How could he just take advantage of me like that and not show any sign of remorse?

"Take this and leave my mansion soon. I don't accept visitors much," I heard him say, throwing a bunch of cash at me.

Wait, did he think of me as one of those?

This felt like a shard of glass piercing deep into the open wounds from Jack's betrayal. The last thing I saw-my dignity had just been snatched away from me.

"How dare you think of me as such!" I snapped, standing up to my feet as I wrapped the bedsheet around myself. "You took advantage of me last night! I will make sure you're arrested; you will pay for your actions!" I threatened, but instead, a pale look came upon me when I witnessed the stranger chuckling out loud as he let out a sigh after.

"Oh, you must be one of those, right? Thinking, 'Oh wow, he's a billionaire. I can't just let him go like that.' Then you play your games, getting him tangled up in your shit. But I tell you, I'm not among those fools, and I don't waste my time the way you do. Take the money and leave quietly, or I'll have my guards do the talking-your call," he said.

But how dared he talk to me like that after what he did, threatening to throw me out? And to hell with his money! I grasped the bunch of money he had tossed at me, flinging it back at him.

"I don't need your money, you scoundrel!" I exclaimed.

Wearing my remaining clothes, I grabbed my phone, which I found on the nightstand. Stepping out of his room, he only glared at me with that weird smirk of his.

Walking down the stairs, my eyes couldn't deny the lavish halls and the gilded designs on the walls with paintings I knew of great worth on his walls. Many maids were walking around, tidying up each area.

"So he was rich, but that didn't give him the right to treat me like this. I will make sure he pays for snatching away my last shred of dignity and taking advantage of my drunken state. He will pay," I muttered to myself.

I made my way outside his mansion gate when, in that moment, a buzz drew my attention back to my phone. Checking the caller ID, it displayed "Luxor Enterprises."

Wait, this was the same company I had tried to apply for last month. It was my dream company, one I had wished to work for since my college days. I had lost all hope, but why were they calling me now?

I hastily picked up the call, placing the phone on my ear.

"Good day, Ms. Susan. I hope you received our email. We'll surely be expecting your presence today to see what you have to offer our company," a woman's voice said. The call hung up before I could even utter another word.

"But wait, she mentioned an email. They sent an email?"

I opened my phone, checking my email, only to come across the message sent to me since yesterday around the morning hours.

Clicking on it, it read, "Congrats, Ms. Susan, you have been among the few selected for the interview at our company. We expect your presence tomorrow at exactly 9 AM for the presentation of what you have in store for our company."

How could I have missed this email yesterday? Just how? But I couldn't deny the fact that yesterday was a day I wished so much to let go of, losing all that seemed to matter to me. Would I have even been able to give a care to my phone?

But now, receiving this call, my eyes checked the time. It read 8 AM. I only had one hour before the interview commenced. I had to find a way to get there immediately.

Taking the shortest route I could come across, I made my way to the company, arriving there at 9:30 AM. I hurried to the receptionist, gasping for breath as I tried to maintain a proper stance.

"Please, can you..." I began.

"Please, where is the interview room? I am here for the interview," I clarified.

I watched the receptionist's gaze sharpen as she let out an "oh." Really, I just hoped I wasn't late.

"Follow me, please," she said, standing up from her seat as she led me further into the building. We arrived at a room.

"You may go in, ma'am. They will attend to you," she directed, turning back from my side.

My legs trembled as my feet went cold, just gazing at the interview room a glance away.

"I can do this," I muttered to myself, hoping to make my way into the room, but a creak from the room door halted my footsteps as I caught sight of some people stepping out.

"I can't believe I just got the interview!" I heard one exclaim out loud, with the others shaking her head.

Maybe they were contesting for some other positions, I thought, hoping to congratulate the lady as well, but the words that left her lips after that left me feeling pale.

"I am now the new secretary to the CEO. I can't wait to tell everybody!" she added, saying.

That was the same position I applied for. How could she? This can't be right.
