So, after gaining the ability, she had reached out to Mrs. Jones under the alias Doctor Amy, fabricating a story about being a sponsored student just to have an excuse to repay her kindness.
Over the years, she had provided free technical support whenever Mrs. Jones's company had any issues.
But since when was she at Charlotte's beck and call?
What an exaggeration.
Professor Evan, however, believed it completely. "Which university is Doctor Amy currently working at?"
Charlotte responded, "I promised the dean that I would invite Doctor Amy to teach at our university."
"That's fantastic!" Professor Evan was overjoyed. He turned to Amelia and said, "Amelia, your research field is the same as Doctor Amy's. I'll introduce you to him. If Doctor Amy puts in a good word for you, perhaps your postgraduate recommendation can still be saved!"
Charlotte pretended to be concerned. "Professor Evan, is that really okay? The Stuart Family is the wealthiest in New York City, and they provide a lot of research funding to our university every year..."
Professor Evan dismissed the concern. "Doctor Amy is in high demand right now. I heard that both Horton University abroad and Oxford University have extended invitations to him. Many companies are eager to invest in him. If Doctor Amy steps in, the school will undoubtedly choose him!"
Charlotte sighed theatrically. "But Doctor Amy is only helping because of my mom. If it were for me, he would go all out, but Amelia is my father's illegitimate daughter, which puts her at odds with my mom... Amelia, do you want me to ask Doctor Amy on your behalf?"
Amelia, "...No need."
At this moment, Charlotte looked like nothing more than a ridiculous clown.
Amelia smirked slightly and directly said to Professor Evan, "Professor Evan, there's no need to trouble yourself. You know I never intended to pursue graduate school."
Professor Evan froze, his face full of regret.
He had discovered Amelia's talent in the field, and it was his persistence that had pushed for her postgraduate recommendation. He never expected things to turn out this way.
His eyes turned slightly red. "Then I'll write you a job recommendation letter."
Mary scoffed. "Don't waste your time. She offended Mr. Stuart, and she still thinks she can find a job in New York City? Dream on!"
Professor Evan was furious. "I refuse to believe that someone can control all job opportunities in New York City! If you can't find a job, come work as my assistant! I want you!"
A warmth surged in Amelia's heart. She explained, "Professor, it's just a misunderstanding between me and Mr. Stuart. It will be cleared up soon. You don't have to worry."
Professor Evan sighed. "If you can clear it up, then come back. Be my student again."
Looking at the professor's sincere expectation, Amelia's voice softened. "Alright, I'll come back."
Becoming a lecturer at New York City University wouldn't be a bad idea.
Charlotte, however, clenched her fists tightly.
She couldn't understand-she was the top student, yet why did Professor Evan only care about the average Amelia?!
Had the old man also been fooled by her face?
Charlotte was furious. She glanced at Mary and suddenly said, "Amelia, are you still planning to bother Mr. Stuart? He's already married. What you're doing is really inappropriate..."
As expected, Mary exploded with rage.
"Slap!"
The loud sound of a slap echoed in the office.
Amelia felt a burning pain on her cheek. She stared at Mary in disbelief-she hadn't expected her to suddenly strike her in front of Professor Evan!
Mary showed no remorse. She pointed at Amelia and cursed, "You cheap woman! Have you forgotten the family rules after all these years? Apologize to your sister right now and promise never to see The Stuart Family again!"
The warmth in Amelia's eyes disappeared, replaced by a chilling coldness.
It seemed her words that day-"This is the last time"-had meant nothing to Mary.
She still saw Amelia as the same submissive girl who lived in her shadow.
If reason wouldn't work, then she wouldn't hold back...
Charlotte watched from the side, feeling triumphant.
When they were younger, Amelia had always cowered before her, never daring to talk back or fight back.
But after moving away, Amelia seemed to have changed. She still looked just as poor and pathetic, yet she dared to stand up to her now.
Had she forgotten her place because she hadn't been beaten in years?
Today, Mary would teach her a lesson.
Just as Charlotte was gloating over this thought, she saw Amelia slowly walk up to her, seemingly about to apologize.
Charlotte smirked. But the next second-
Amelia suddenly raised her hand and slapped Charlotte hard across the face!
"Smack! Smack!"
Charlotte's head spun. She was momentarily stunned by the impact.
Mary screamed and lunged at her. "Amelia, how dare you?!"
Amelia suddenly turned her head!
Her gaze was icy and cruel, like a demon that had just crawled out of hell, exuding a terrifying aura of bloodlust!
Mary was so shocked by her expression that she froze in place. "Y-You... What are you doing? You ungrateful brat! I'm your mother! Are you really going to hit me? You unfilial wretch!"
"If you're a cruel mother, don't expect me to be a filial daughter!"
Amelia's voice was chilling, each word sharp as a blade. "Stay out of my life. If you ever interfere again, whatever you do to me-I will return it to Charlotte twice over!"
She withdrew her gaze and bowed deeply to Professor Evan. "Thank you for your care over the past four years. I will come back."
With that, she turned and left without hesitation.
Only after her figure disappeared did Mary snap out of her daze. She rushed to Charlotte. "Charlotte, are you alright? That wretch actually dared to hit you! She's completely out of control!"
Charlotte clutched her swollen cheek, shaking with rage, but she asked coldly, "Where does she get this confidence from?"
Mary hesitated. "Could it be that Mr. Stuart really has taken a liking to her? That's impossible! She's already married! Why would Mr. Stuart be interested in damaged goods..."
Charlotte thought so too.
But looking at Amelia's devastatingly beautiful face, she suddenly wasn't so sure...
Professor Evan had been utterly stunned by the whole ordeal.
He stared at Mary, listening to her foul words, and couldn't help but wonder-
Was this really Amelia's mother? Or was she actually Charlotte's mother?
Maybe it was just his imagination, but suddenly, he thought these two women looked quite alike...

As soon as Amelia walked out of the university gates, Jack called.
"Boss, I found out the truth! I finally understand why Liam claims he's married, yet he doesn't even know who you are!"
