The man didn't say anything, but the coldness around him made Colin shiver.
The old lady had been dazed for most of the time. Who could have expected her to suddenly recover today and sneak out after sending everyone away?
After checking the surveillance, they discovered the old lady had taken a bus and traveled to the suburbs on her own.
This area was quite dilapidated, with many streets lacking cameras, so they had to search the area thoroughly.
Just then, the phone suddenly rang.
Liam immediately answered, and a calm female voice came through, "Hello, your elder is in my hands."
"..."
The atmosphere in the car instantly froze, and the air seemed to grow colder.
Everyone acted immediately, some preparing to report to the police, and Colin was tracking the signal of the caller.
Liam's sharp eyes remained steady as he calmly said, "How much do you want?"
"...Just kidding." The girl's voice sounded a little cheeky. "I just wanted to tell you to take better care of your elderly."
After giving the address, she hung up.
Colin sighed with relief and patted his chest.
What a mischievous good Samaritan!
Liam, however, slightly raised his brow.
He suddenly felt that the lazy tone in the phone call sounded... familiar?
Five minutes later, they arrived at the location, but the girl who had called was nowhere to be found. Only a police officer was there, waiting with the old lady.
Liam asked, "Grandma, how did you end up here?"
The old lady mysteriously said, "I came to find my daughter-in-law, she lives nearby!"
Liam paused, sighing, "Grandma, there's no such daughter-in-law..."
"Impossible! I saw her!" The old lady complained. "That heartless girl, she handed me over to the police and just left. Oh, give me your phone."
Liam handed her his phone, and she wrote down the number of the recent caller in her notebook.
Finally, she had her daughter-in-law's contact information!
Amelia was worried that once the elderly woman's family found her, they would thank her profusely.
She wasn't good at dealing with such situations.
So when she saw a police officer patrolling, she simply handed the old lady over to them and went home.
The next morning, she received a phone call from her university professor, "Amelia, come to the school right away!"
Confused, Amelia rode her electric scooter to the campus. As soon as she entered Professor Evan's office, she saw Charlotte and Mary there too.
Amelia squinted her eyes.
Both she and Charlotte attended New York City University, one of the best universities in the area.
Charlotte got in with excellent grades.
Amelia, on the other hand, had started a company and didn't want to manage it remotely. She also didn't want to overshadow Charlotte, so she intentionally chose the least popular major - Energy Power.
But two years ago, the concept of "new energy" suddenly became a hot topic.
Charlotte immediately changed her major and they became classmates again.
Charlotte seemed to be doing just fine here, but why was Mary here?
Before she could think more, Professor Evan's face turned serious, "Amelia, your eligibility for graduate school has been canceled."
Amelia was stunned, "Why?"
"Your mother says you have poor character and improper background, which doesn't meet the qualifications for graduate school." Professor Evan frowned. "Is there some misunderstanding between you and your mother? Hurry up and apologize to her. You have a bright future, don't let a moment of anger ruin it!"
Charlotte sighed when she heard this, "Professor Evan, Amelia's mother is only doing this for her own good."
She looked at Amelia, "You offended Mr. Stuart. Mr. Stuart has said that he will make you disappear from New York City."
Amelia took a while to realize that "Mr. Stuart" referred to Liam.
But all she did was say a few words to him, and when he left yesterday, he didn't seem angry. Why was he making such a fuss about this?
On the other hand, Charlotte was always good at lying...
As she was thinking, Charlotte approached her and said, "Amelia, here's a plane ticket your father bought for you. He wants you to go abroad to avoid the trouble. Otherwise, The Jones family can't protect you."
Amelia's eyes flashed with a hint of sarcasm.
It sounded nice-what a good idea to avoid trouble-but The Jones family was just worried about being dragged down by her!
She glanced at the destination on the plane ticket, Argentina.
It was the farthest country from the business world.
How afraid were they of her coming back?
She pushed the ticket back and coldly said, "No need."
When Charlotte saw she wasn't accepting it, she took out a bank card and sincerely said, "Are you worried you won't be able to live abroad? Here's fifty thousand dollars, it's my personal living allowance for you. This is all I have in savings right now, but if you need more, I can get some more pocket money for you later..."
The eldest daughter of The Jones family only had fifty thousand dollars?
Amelia found it ridiculous.
Mary snatched the bank card from Charlotte's hand, "Charlotte, what are you doing? The Jones family has already been kind enough to buy her a plane ticket!"
She turned to Amelia and ordered, "Pack your things and go abroad immediately. I've already taken care of your withdrawal procedures."
Amelia looked at her, "What gives you the right to make decisions for me?"
"What do you mean, I'm your mother! Besides, with your grades, continuing grad school would be a waste of time. You'd probably have trouble graduating! You might as well go abroad and start working."
Professor Evan immediately interjected, "Amelia's mother, you're mistaken. Amelia has done very well in her core subjects..."
Before he could finish, Mary interrupted him, "Professor, you don't need to defend her. Do I not know what she's like? She only wanted to go to grad school because Charlotte is going. She should take a look at herself before trying to compare to Charlotte! What qualifications does she have?"
Her crude words made Professor Evan choke, and he turned to Charlotte in surprise, "You want to pursue grad school? I remember you didn't apply for graduate school and didn't take the entrance exam."
Charlotte smiled slightly and modestly said, "Yes, I took the special recruitment route."
If a professor values a student, they can personally recommend them, even without a formal application process.
The professor suddenly understood and asked, "May I ask which professor is specially recruiting you?"
Charlotte put on a humble expression, "It's Doctor Amy. Her hydrogen fuel research succeeded, and she applied for a patent and was awarded a doctorate."
Amelia was stunned, "Who are you talking about?"
