Daniel tried to push himself up, his arms straining with muscle, but he couldn't move an inch. He yelled, "This woman hit me first! She's here to scam me into marriage! She's divorced with two kids, and now she wants to marry a man like me-someone with a car, a house, and an annual salary of 300,000! I exposed her, and she got so angry that she splashed water on my face! Don't be deceived by her looks; just because she's somewhat pretty doesn't mean she's not a bitch..."
Ronan picked up a vase from the table, flowers and all, and poured it onto Daniel's face.
"Ah!" Daniel screamed in pain as the thorns from the roses scratched his skin, stinging sharply.
The entire restaurant turned their attention to them.
Seeing that the situation had escalated, the waiter, unable to handle it, hurriedly ran off to get the manager.
The manager rushed over, and upon seeing Ronan, his anxious expression froze, and his steps slowed. He didn't approach to intervene.
The waiter, who had been following him, almost bumped into him, confused, and asked, "Manager?"
"That's President Ronan."
The manager spoke briefly, and the waiter instantly understood. The only person who could make the manager behave like this was none other than the President of The Brown Family Group, Ronan. The waiter quickly fell silent, not daring to interfere.
Daniel, now at a disadvantage and with no one to help him, had no choice but to beg for mercy, "I was wrong. Please, let me go."
Ronan released his grip and, as though disgusted, picked up a napkin from the table to wipe his long fingers. His actions were slow, deliberate, and incredibly graceful, a stark contrast to his earlier aggressiveness.
He had no expression on his face, and with his eyes slightly lowered, any attempt to decipher his emotions was in vain.
Daniel gritted his teeth, trying to straighten up. His shoulder and neck were sore from the earlier struggle. He had only just seen the man who had intervened, and now, filled with hatred, he lifted his eyes to look at him. The words he wanted to say got stuck in his throat and were swallowed down in silence.
Although Daniel didn't recognize the man, he immediately sensed a chilling aura. This was the kind of pressure one would feel from someone who had been in a position of power for a long time. The watch on the man's wrist was expensive, and while his clothes didn't have a visible brand, their quality suggested they were custom-made. Daniel had come across wealthy people before, and he could tell that this man was either rich or powerful-someone not to be messed with.
Daniel glanced at Alice, his anger intensifying.
It was all her fault, but given the current situation, continuing to argue wouldn't help, so he decided to cut his losses.
Just as he was about to leave, the man suddenly spoke, "Wait."
His voice was cold and commanding, and the glance he shot at Daniel had a chilling effect. Without thinking, Daniel halted in his tracks.
Ronan's words were few, "Apologize."
Daniel's facial muscles twitched, and he turned around in disbelief. What did he mean? He was asking him to apologize to Alice?
No way!
This whole mess was her fault, and now he was supposed to apologize to her? Over my dead body!
"This gentleman, I understand that you want to play the hero, but you need to get the facts straight first." Daniel was afraid inside but tried to stay calm on the outside. With so many people around, he didn't believe that the man would actually do anything to him. "I just told you, this woman is no good. She's here to scam men with lies, pretending that her family tricked her into coming. If I had known about her situation earlier, I would never have agreed to meet her."
Since Ronan's arrival, Alice had been silent, but now she could no longer hold her tongue. "Can you stop twisting the facts? Don't you know what kind of person you are? Do you want me to expose everything so everyone can judge you? Fine, if you have no shame, let's do it."
She took out her phone and opened a recording, turning up the volume so everyone could hear.
Daniel's voice came from the phone.
"I know, a beautiful and elegant woman like Miss Hughes must have no shortage of admirers. Let me tell you about my advantages, my annual salary is about 300,000, I have a house, a car, and I'm an only child. My parents are retired, and after marriage, we won't have to worry about them. I don't really like kids, but I must have one, preferably a son. If you like kids, we can have two or three."
Daniel froze, his eyes wide in shock. How could this woman have recorded him?
When he said those things, he didn't think much of it, but hearing them played in public was incredibly embarrassing.
He was furious, and rushed toward Alice to grab the phone, but his knee was kicked, causing him immense pain and making him break into a cold sweat. He nearly fell to the ground. Looking up, he met the cold, stern face of the man who had intervened.
The phone continued to play Alice's voice,
"Daniel, didn't the matchmaker tell you about my situation?"
Daniel asked, "What situation?"
Alice responded, "I'm divorced with two kids, and I don't plan on having more."
This proved Alice was not lying.
The other customers in the restaurant started to change how they viewed Daniel, whispering and pointing at him.
The recording kept playing, showing that Daniel had accused Alice of scamming him, while she had remained calm and explained that she had been clear about her situation from the start. Daniel, feeling embarrassed and angry, had prevented her from leaving and even said something very insulting.
"You're divorced and have two kids. I could never marry a woman like you. But... you're so beautiful, why don't you just spend the night with me and we'll forget about all this?"
Daniel stood frozen in place, the crowd's disapproving glares and whispers making him feel as though he had just been slapped multiple times. His face burned with shame.
Ronan looked at him coldly, feeling that his earlier lesson had been too lenient.
Strangers nearby were shocked by Daniel's words. One man loudly expressed, "I understand now, this beautiful woman calmly explained herself, wanting to end an arranged date she didn't even know about. But this guy wouldn't let her go and made insulting remarks. What a disgrace to all men!"
A woman added angrily, "He thought he could take advantage of her just because she's pretty, and when he couldn't, he slanders her. I've never seen such a lowlife."
"And he's a chauvinist too!"
"Seriously! How about he takes a good look at himself in the mirror and sees if he's worthy of looking down on women?"
"Exactly! What's wrong with being divorced with kids? I live a great life after my divorce."
"Some people have a more backward mindset than my grandmother!"
"Just came here for a meal and witnessed the diversity of human beings."
"Thinking about how this kind of man is out there in the dating scene, I'm worried that some unsuspecting goddess might fall for it. Can we please get a law that locks up men who don't respect women?"
Daniel had no face left to stay any longer. He limped away, humiliated.
The waiter, thoroughly enjoying the scene, suddenly remembered something and ran after him, shouting, "Sir, you haven't paid yet. The dishes are ready, sir-"
The absurdity of the situation had everyone bursting into laughter.
"Alice, should we go?" A soft voice interrupted her thoughts. Alice looked up and saw a woman in a white sleeveless dress walking over. She had long hair, a subtle yet elegant makeup, and pearl earrings that shone against her dark hair-she looked like the lead character in a K-drama.
It was Elizabeth.
She was still as refined as ever, from head to toe, perfectly fitting her identity as a rich young lady.
As she approached, a faint fragrance of perfume filled the air.
Alice felt a twinge of discomfort. Elizabeth was clearly with Ronan.
Alice bit her lip, her thumb pressing against her finger, causing the blood to drain from her fingertips, making them slightly pale.
Elizabeth reached Ronan's side, her heart uneasy. She had clearly seen that the moment the man had grabbed Alice's wrist, Ronan had reacted instinctively, getting up to help her.
She thought he had long forgotten Alice and had become a stranger to her. But that wasn't the case.
Not wanting to see her years of effort go to waste, Elizabeth stepped forward, pulling on Ronan's sleeve, and gently called out, "Ronan?"
Ronan glanced at her. Elizabeth raised her face, smiling sweetly at him, completely ignoring Alice. However, Ronan's next words caused her smile to freeze on her face.
"You go ahead. I need to talk to her."
