Chapter 4 Fourth Chapter

After gathering a little amount of money from Nisan's family, Vienna and her sister, along with Nisan, came to the city and admitted their mother to the city hospital.

They stayed in a bedroom flat lent to them by one of their uncles.

After arriving and settling down, it remained just a few day before the day of the operation for her mother. Vienna decided to go out and look for a menial job to get some money.

Since she dropped out of school and couldn't get her university certificate, there was a limit to the kind of work she could get with her high school certificate.

She stepped out of the house to take a bus to go check if she could get some assistance from their other family members before going to check the place introduced to her by Nisan.

Getting on the bus, she sat down beside a man reading a newspaper.

She pushed her neck forward out of curiosity and saw Alan and Karen's picture on the front page.

Since she left the city for the countryside, she hadn't heard anything about him at all.

She tried to lean in more out of curiosity. The man raised his head and passed the newspaper to her.

Vienna thanked him and took it, she widened her eyes as she read the headline and quickly opened the page.

"It had been revealed that the famous Alan Clinton, of the Clinton empire has lost his sight due to the accident that happened to him a month ago.

He would be unable to continue running the affairs of the company for now.

The assistant CEO, Mr. Karen, has been announced to take over the running of the business."

Vienna read the news all over again bewildered.

Even though she had thought of ways for karma to get back at him and Benita, she could never have imagined that he would one day become blind.

She opened the next page to read more and is more flabbergasted to see a picture of an engagement between Karen and Benita.

"Isn't she supposed to be with Alan?" Vienna wondered aloud.

She knows of Karen's competition with Alan even though others couldn't see it but she didn't expect that after just three years, he would be able to take everything from Alan, including his woman.

Vienna felt a some pity for Alan, knowing how prideful he is but then realized it's none of her business.

Vienna returned the paper and tried not to concern herself with whatever might be happening to Alan at the moment but couldn't.

Different assumptions popped up in her head and make her wonder if Benita cheated on Alan and she somehow felt pleased.

Karma is a bitch

Alighting from the bus, Vienna visited three of her uncles and aunt, whom she was very familiar with, to ask for help, but none of them even agreed to meet with her.

They all sent her away, calling her the daughter of a criminal.

Vienna was not surprised at their attitude at all. Back when her parents were still rich, they were the ones who always came by to their house for help, but now they saw her as the daughter of a criminal.

She blinked her eyes to avoid any tears from falling as she made her way to a small shop to get some buns to eat.

Because she was saving money, she hadn't eaten anything since last night, and she couldn't bear it anymore.

Vienna dragged her tired body to the shop and could only get two buns.

She quickly ate them and wiped her mouth. She checked the time and saw that it remained just ten minutes to the time given to her by the person who contacted her for a job interview.

She started to run so she could get there on time.

She ran as fast as she could but was still three minutes late.

She opened the door to the cafe in a hurry and went to meet the person standing at the counter.

"Excuse me, good day. I'm here for the interview," she said, breathing heavily. The owner looked at her, perplexed.

"You must be mistaken? I'm not hiring anyone," he replied and continued his work.

Vienna was confused. She opened her phone to check the address sent to her again.

Then she went outside the cafe to check again, and a woman appeared in front of her.

"Miss Vienna," Kellie called.

Vienna looked at her, wondering how she knew her name.

"I'm the one who texted you to meet here," she informed her.

"Good afternoon. I thought I was in the wrong place," Vienna said relieved.

"Let's go in," Kellie motioned with her hand and opened the door for them.

Vienna followed her, and they picked a table by the wall to sit. Then Kellie signaled for the waiter to serve them two iced coffee.

"I'm Kellie, personal assistant to Mr. Alan Clinton," she answered.

Vienna stopped in her tracks for a second.

"President. Who?"

"President Alan Clinton? I'm here to discuss some business with you on his behalf," Kellie said. Vienna was so surprised.

"What business would there be between him and me?" she thought, believing it could be a prank.

"I think you've got the wrong person. I don't know anyone with that name," Vienna said and stood up to leave.

"You are Vienna Miner, aren't you? Mr. Alan's ex fiance. Why don't you wait and listen to what I have to say?"

"If this is not about giving a job, then I have to take my leave."

"It might not exactly be a job, but there is money involved."

Vienna calmed down at the word "money" and sat down again reluctantly.

"I won't beat around the bush; I'll just go straight to the point. Mr. Clinton wants to rearrange your engagement with him, but it will be based on a contract, just for a period of time," she said.

"Rearrange the engagement and a fake one at that?"

"Yes, for a short period of three months, and also, he wants you to convince his grandfather that you don't want to get married immediately. Delay the wedding for that period of three months," she explained further.

Vienna stared at her, pondering her words.

"Why? Because he is now blind, so he needs me to help after his so-called lover left him?" she let out before she could stop herself.

Kellie smiled seeing she is aware.

"I'm just here to relay his message, and it will definitely not be for free. Your mother is sick and needs money for surgery, and also, your sister needs money for her exams. If you agree to do it, then Mr. Alan will help take care of your mother's surgery and also help your sister with her education."

"Did you spy on me?" She asked angrily and stood up.

"Of course, he is someone who will stoop to that level to get me to agree to his stupid demands," she said.

"Tell him to get lost with his money, I don't need it." She spat.

"Contact me again if you change your mind," Kellie said not persuading her futher but Vienna storms out of the cafe, fuming in anger and cussing Alan under her breath.
