Chapter 5 Finding new reality hard

James went into his room a few nights later as usual. He had been keeping things easy with Harley. He showered her with affection and she did things any wife should.

He made sure to hang around town when he could or had a friend watch her work.

California had dropped the ball when they had him. He somehow managed to escape custody. When he came back to this area he had no home, no kids but the cops had a cell waiting with his name on it.

Unfortunately in such a small town as theirs the number of police was low. So sometimes in these instances citizens like himself and others that were veterans stepped up and helped out. He wasn't there though and his pal had been in the store across and on the corner when her dad struck. He had gotten the call that he had attacked her.

His sister had stayed with her when she got rushed to the Emergency Medical Center in town.

He had rushed there. He had to wait over a hour for the doctor to get out of surgery.

"James Your wife got off with a few bumps bruises a skull fracture. We also had to do surgery on her leg. She can be released in a few days. You can go in and see her." He had served with the doctor so they naturally were on a first name basis.

"Thanks Sam." He went in she looked bad. She held her hand for him. She had been tough though according to Jess. She had nearly killed her dad. Her vehicle totaled.

"Sorry I couldn't protect you love." He kissed her forehead.

"James you couldn't have known. Don't blame yourself baby." She grasped his hand.

"I heard you whooped his ass though. That's my woman. Now when they let you out I get to care for you. Like I should have. I don't know what to tell the kids."

"Hey you tell them their sister was a hero." She traced his lower lip with her thumb. Then pulled him down to kiss him.

"What are we going to do while you heal? Even with him clinging we don't know who else he has out there. Any plans for the house?" He asked.

"When I get home I want to talk it over with the kids and you. I would life to sell the whole thing. However it's not just my house I want to know if the kids want it. If not then the money would be split 3 ways but I think they should get bigger shares. They're going to need a financial cushion when they go in their own. Thinking they each get 40 percent and I will put the remaining 20 percent in my own account to get a newer family style vehicle. As for if he had anyone else I think we should stay vigilant in keeping our eyes open." She couldn't hold back the yawn.

He told her agreed with her assessment then said he would be back in the morning. He gave her a slow sweet kiss before he headed out.

She was absolutely feeling sad. She couldn't provide for the kids right now. Luckily the state and county had rushed the adoption through so that letter was due any day.

James had really took care of the house and kids until she was released. He refused help and hoisted her into his truck.

"I figured you didn't want to be cooped up in the bedroom all the time, especially when I am outside working the land. So I had satellite hooked up and paid for some streaming apps. Jess said you like knitting and crocheting so I had her buy the appropriate things. Also installed a bookcase with a lot of books for you. I also got you a cat I remember you had eye on. It's older so it's box trained. I also bought a kitten so it has a buddy." He said while they drove home.
